MG plans to bring a third car from its IM brand to the UK in 2027. An interview with MG UK product and planning director David Allison points toward a large electric SUV in the seven-seat D-segment, but MG has not confirmed the model name or its final specifications.
What is MG’s third IM model expected to be?
MG has not named the vehicle. In an interview published by Auto Express on 2 October 2026, Allison was asked about a larger seven-seat electric SUV positioned against the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. He replied: “Absolutely, you’re in the right area for that” and described the technology as “really cutting-edge.”
That answer indicates the broad market space MG is considering; it is not a formal confirmation of the vehicle’s body style, seat count or rivals. Allison said the third product would enter a market segment that MG does not currently serve.
What MG has confirmed—and what remains unknown
Allison said: “We will continue to evolve the product range for MG IM. There will be a further MG IM product that will come to market next year and again it will operate in a space that we currently don’t sell at the moment.” The 2027 UK launch plan is the clearest commitment in the report.

Specifications from IM models sold in other markets cannot establish what the UK-bound vehicle will offer.
How it fits into MG’s current IM range
The UK IM line-up currently comprises the IM5 saloon and IM6 SUV. MG presents IM as a technology-led showcase distinct from its core range. Allison described the brand this way: “IM is termed as ‘technology showcase’. They offer technology that cannot be offered in the core range of cars [MG].”

Auto Express cites the existing IM5 and IM6 as featuring an 800-volt platform, charging capability of up to 375 kW, 0–62 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds, up to 750 bhp and autonomous-driving technology. Those are claims about the current models, not specifications announced for the third car.
Will it rival the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9?
The interview places the prospective model in the same broad conversation as those large electric SUVs, but MG has not confirmed either as a direct rival or published comparable specifications. There is not yet enough information for a meaningful vehicle-to-vehicle comparison.

Once MG releases details, useful comparisons will include seating layout and third-row room, UK prices and trim levels, battery and range, charging performance, warranty and servicing, driver-assistance equipment, and delivery timing.
What might the new IM cost?
No target price is reported. Auto Express says price should be an advantage and quotes Allison on MG’s pricing approach, but neither a figure nor a direct price comparison with the Kia EV9 or Hyundai Ioniq 9 is provided. Any estimate for the new vehicle would be speculation.

How significant is the IM launch for MG UK?
Auto Express forecast around 6,500 UK IM sales in 2026, against around 100,000 total MG UK sales. These are forecasts reported on 2 October 2026, not completed-year results. They suggest IM remains a smaller part of MG’s UK business while the brand expands its range.
