Certain 2026 Lexus RX vehicles in Canada are subject to a recall because a front steering knuckle may break after a sudden, forceful impact, such as hitting a pothole or curb. A broken knuckle could cause loss of steering control and create a crash risk. The Canadian remedy is a no-charge dealer inspection and replacement of an affected knuckle if needed.
What the Lexus RX steering knuckle recall covers
Toyota Canada announced the recall on September 17, 2026, estimating that approximately 71 vehicles in Canada are involved. Transport Canada record 2026440, updated September 29, 2026, lists these model-year 2026 variants: RX 350, RX 350h and RX 500h. The recall applies to affected vehicles, not automatically to every RX of those types. Check the vehicle identification number (VIN) to confirm whether a particular vehicle is included. Toyota Canada’s announcement and Transport Canada’s recall record provide the Canadian details.
What can happen if the knuckle breaks
The front steering knuckle is part of the wheel and suspension assembly. Toyota Canada says an improperly manufactured knuckle may break following a sudden large impact, including striking a pothole or curb. Transport Canada warns that loss of steering control could create a crash risk. The notices describe a possible failure condition; they do not say that every recalled vehicle will experience it.
What owners should do
- Check the VIN in the official recall system for your country. Canadian owners can use the Transport Canada recall record and contact a Lexus dealer to confirm campaign eligibility. In the United States, search by VIN or license plate using Toyota’s recall lookup, or use NHTSA’s VIN recall lookup.
- Contact a Lexus dealer if the vehicle is covered. In Canada, the stated remedy is inspection of the front knuckle and free replacement if it is from the affected production batch. Follow the dealer’s instructions rather than buying a replacement part or attempting a DIY repair.
- Follow any interim safety advice provided by the manufacturer. NHTSA advises owners to follow interim guidance and have a recalled vehicle repaired by a local dealership at no charge. A newly announced U.S. recall may not immediately appear with all affected VINs, so check again or contact a dealer if you have concerns.
Toyota Canada’s September notice said owners were expected to receive notification by late November 2026. That was a forecast, not a substitute for checking the vehicle’s current recall status.

Why the U.S. recall details need a VIN check
The Canadian count and variant list should not be applied to U.S. vehicles. U.S. eligibility is determined by VIN, and NHTSA cautions that recently announced recall records can take time to include all affected VINs. A secondary Cars.com listing reports U.S. recall number 26V598000 and names certain 2026 Lexus RX and TX vehicles and Toyota Grand Highlander vehicles, but that listing alone is not enough to establish precise U.S. coverage or remedy. Confirm the current status in NHTSA’s primary recall system or with a Lexus dealer.
Do not confuse it with an earlier bolt-tightening issue
A separate 2024 Toyota chronology hosted by NHTSA concerns bolts that may not have been properly tightened during production, including brake caliper mounting bracket bolts and a hub-bearing bolt. Toyota described possible caliper movement, brake-hose stress, vibration, abnormal noise and, in a progression involving hub-bearing bolts, possible wheel separation. Although that chronology refers to components in the steering-knuckle assembly, it describes a different condition from the 2026 recall involving an improperly manufactured front knuckle. The NHTSA-hosted 2024 chronology covers that separate investigation.

What this recall does—and does not—say about durability
The recall documents a specific manufacturing issue affecting certain vehicles; they do not establish a Toyota or Lexus-wide steering-knuckle defect, nor do they compare either brand’s durability with other automakers. The “durability kings” framing is not a durability statistic or a conclusion supported by these recall records. The useful takeaway for an owner is narrower: verify the VIN, then arrange the free inspection and repair if the vehicle is covered.
