Shelby American says a Shelby GT500 CODE RED completed the quarter-mile in 8.593 seconds at 161.81 mph. That is a manufacturer-reported run, not a verified repeatable time for every CODE RED: Shelby’s video description does not state the track conditions or identify independent timing verification.
What Shelby’s 8.593-second pass tells us
Shelby American’s video is titled “Shelby GT500 CODE RED Quarter Mile Run – 8.59s at 161 MPH!” Its description gives the more precise figures: 8.593 seconds and 161.81 mph. Watch Shelby American’s quarter-mile video.
The result shows the performance Shelby reports for one pass. The description does not provide a test protocol, track conditions, independent timing source, or evidence of repeatability. It therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed time, a record, or a like-for-like comparison with another car.
What the CODE RED conversion changes
Shelby American describes CODE RED as a twin-turbo conversion for titled 2020–2022 Shelby GT500s. The project began as an experimental 2008 effort before becoming a limited package for the later GT500 generation. Rather than the GT500’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 setup, the conversion uses an intercooled twin-turbo system identified as Shelby by Fathouse Performance, with Xona 7869S dual ball-bearing turbos.

Shelby’s power claims depend on fuel
Shelby rates the CODE RED at 1,000-plus horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane pump gas, and up to 1,300 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft on E85 ethanol. Those are Shelby’s stated figures; the cited product information does not present them as independently measured dyno results. The fuel qualification matters: the higher rating is specifically tied to E85.

Shelby says production was limited to 10 vehicles per model year for 2020, 2021, and 2022—30 in total—and that reservations have been taken for all CODE REDs from those years. The product page does not establish current availability, so prospective buyers should confirm directly with Shelby.

Shelby’s official announcement and video description say the CODE RED is off-road only and that the package voids manufacturer warranties. Shelby also says transportation is the customer’s responsibility and advises international customers to check import restrictions. These terms make legality, warranty exposure, and logistics essential parts of assessing the conversion—not footnotes to the quarter-mile number.
