Celica history in the UK
Toyota UK’s archive places the fourth-generation Celica’s UK launch in November 1985 and the UK introduction of the GT-Four in April 1988. The GT-Four combined a turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive and anti-lock brakes.
In 1992, Toyota UK recorded 5,000 Celica Turbo 4WD Carlos Sainz cars, with 440 allocated to the UK. That homologation model is historical context for today’s performance-Celica speculation, not evidence that a new car will repeat the specification or name.

Toyota’s 1999 UK press material described the seventh-generation Celica as a 2+2 coupe. Its 1.8-litre VVT-i engine produced 105 kW (140 bhp), drove through a six-speed manual gearbox and was quoted at 8.7 seconds for 0–100 km/h. Those are period specifications for the 1999 UK launch car; they are not forecasts for a new Celica.
