Messerschmitt’s Kabinenroller-inspired three-wheeler is back as the modern KR-202, offered in a current 12 kW electric version and a 200 cc Piaggio petrol version identified by its maker as available for export. The electric model has a manufacturer-claimed range of up to 110 km in Normal mode; the current petrol listing does not publish comparable performance figures.
What Messerschmitt is bringing back
The KR-202 revives the look and tandem-seat idea of the postwar Messerschmitt Kabinenroller, but it is a newly made vehicle—not a restart of 1950s production. JMA-MESSERSCHMITT-WERKE S.L.U. says its current models are hand-built in southern Spain. Its home page update dated 28 September 2026 identifies a 200 cc Piaggio-powered KR-202 as available for export and also promotes the electric KR-202 E Sport. Manufacturer home page
The project had earlier development stages. A New Atlas article hosted on the manufacturer’s site traced the path from the assisted KR 25-E velomobile to powered KR-202 Sport and KR-E5000 microcars. That history helps explain the revival, but it is not a specification sheet for the current models. New Atlas development article
What the current electric KR-202 E Sport offers
The manufacturer’s current product page lists a 12 kW QS permanent-magnet motor and a 76.8 V, 120 Ah lithium-ion battery. It claims up to 110 km of range in Normal mode, with a full charge taking 4.2 hours and an 80% charge taking 3.2 hours. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent road-test results; the company says range and speed vary with load and road conditions. KR-202 E Sport specifications

Is there a petrol KR-202?
Yes. The manufacturer’s 28 September 2026 home-page update describes a KR-202 powered by a 200 cc Piaggio engine and says it is available for export. The page does not provide a current engine output, top speed, range, price or complete equipment list, so the petrol model cannot be compared with the electric version on those points using the published information. Older figures belong to an earlier lineup. A 13 April 2021 Auto Motor und Sport report described a 125 cc four-stroke petrol model and an electric KR-E 5000 with a 5 kW motor and claimed range of up to 80 km. Those details do not describe the current 200 cc export model or the 12 kW E Sport. Auto Motor und Sport, 13 April 2021
Electric and petrol versions: what can be compared
| Item | KR-202 E Sport | 200 cc Piaggio KR-202 |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | 12 kW electric motor; 76.8 V, 120 Ah battery, per manufacturer specification. | 200 cc Piaggio petrol engine; current engine output not stated by the manufacturer on the cited page. |
| Range or speed | Up to 110 km in Normal mode; around 125 km/h for the L5e version, both manufacturer claims. | Current range and top speed not stated by the manufacturer on the cited page. |
| Charging or refuelling | Manufacturer lists 4.2 hours for a full charge and 3.2 hours to 80%; charging conditions are not specified on the cited page. | Current refuelling details not stated by the manufacturer on the cited page. |
| Availability | Promoted by the manufacturer; reservation information is provided on its product page. | Manufacturer home page update dated 28 September 2026 says available for export. |
| Price | Shop listed at €22,500 on 8 October 2026; confirm current price and delivered total with the seller. | Current price not stated on the cited pages. |
The available details are uneven: the manufacturer publishes a fuller specification for the electric model than for the current petrol version. A buyer comparing them should ask the seller for the petrol model’s output, speed, fuel consumption or range, equipment, price and documentation for the intended market.

The manufacturer’s product and reservation information says the vehicle is built in Spain and offered with a German model report or, by request, temporary registration. That is the seller’s description, not a guarantee that a particular vehicle can be registered in every jurisdiction. Before placing an order, confirm the documents supplied and check registration and road-use requirements with the relevant authority where the vehicle will be used.
