A black Porsche Cayenne struck an eight-year-old boy and his 53-year-old father near Melville Reserve in Perth on 14 October 2021. Initial reports said the boy had non-life-threatening injuries and the father serious injuries. A possible medical episode was reported as an explanation, but police had not confirmed the cause.
What happened in the Melville crash?
The crash occurred at about 5:55pm on 14 October 2021 near the corner of Stock Road and Canning Highway in Melville, Perth. It is a historical incident, not a current crash report.
PerthNow’s account the following morning described a Porsche leaving a rear car park at Melville Recreation Centre, crossing Melville Reserve oval and hitting the father and son near goalposts. The car then went through bollards and a goalpost, crossed Stock Road and entered a car park in Palmyra. That sequence is attributed to PerthNow’s reporting, not to a formal crash reconstruction. What was reported about the father, son and driver?
PerthNow identified the pedestrians as an eight-year-old boy and his 53-year-old father. The boy was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening; his father was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries. The West Australian’s initial report also named those hospitals and gave the same broad descriptions of injury severity. These were reports made at the time, not updates on their health today. The vehicle was described as a black Porsche Cayenne SUV. The initial report said the driver was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital. PerthNow later reported that the 55-year-old driver was on life support; that, too, was a contemporaneous update, not a statement about the driver’s later condition. PerthNow’s report
Was a medical episode confirmed as the cause?
No confirmed cause is established by the reports available here. The West Australian initially said police were unsure whether a medical episode had caused the crash. PerthNow’s report the next morning said it was understood the driver had suffered one. That is an early reported possibility, not a confirmed police, court or coronial finding. The available reporting does not establish the final investigation outcome.

What did witnesses report?
PerthNow quoted eyewitness Jay Dymock describing bystanders pulling the driver from the car and beginning CPR. He said someone brought a defibrillator from Melville Reserve clubrooms before paramedics arrived. Dymock recalled: “I was lying down in bed and I heard a loud bang … I ran up to the car with another bloke,” PerthNow’s account

The contemporaneous reports do not establish whether the driver recovered, how the father and child fared after their initial hospitalisation, or what investigators ultimately concluded about the cause. No later health update or definitive finding is established here, so the initial descriptions should not be read as present-day status.
