What pole means for the race grid
Verstappen’s result is his first pole position of the 2026 season; it is not a claim about his career total. Hadjar qualified third, but Formula 1’s report says he will receive a five-place grid penalty. Qualifying position and race starting position are therefore not the same: the penalty can move him down the starting order.

Despite its official event name, “FORMULA 1 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX IN MALAYSIA 2026,” the event is being held at Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—not in Bahrain. Formula 1 lists it as Round 16 of the 2026 season, with the event running from 2–4 October. Qualifying took place on 3 October, and the Grand Prix is scheduled for 4 October.
