The Kia EV2 looks strongest on paper as a compact, front-wheel-drive electric SUV that prioritises flexible cabin space and a choice of two battery sizes. Kia quotes up to 317 km WLTP for the 42.2 kWh version and up to 453 km for the 61.0 kWh version, but those are official test-cycle figures—not real-world range. This is a source-led review of Kia’s published specifications and market pricing, not an independent road test.
What is the Kia EV2?
The EV2 is Kia’s compact B-segment electric SUV. Kia Ireland lists it at 4,060 mm long and describes a five-seat layout. The market specifications reviewed here identify front-wheel drive; Kia UK also describes the EV2 as FWD. The powertrain figures below come from Kia’s Ireland launch information, so confirm the exact specification offered in your country before ordering.
Motor and drivetrain
Kia Ireland lists a 107.5 kW (144 bhp) front motor for the standard-range model and a 99.5 kW (133 bhp) front motor for the long-range model. Both are quoted at 250 Nm of torque, with a stated maximum speed of 161 km/h. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured performance figures. Kia Ireland’s launch announcement gives the market-specific details.
How far can the Kia EV2 travel?
Kia Europe lists two battery options: 42.2 kWh standard range and 61.0 kWh long range. Its published WLTP figures are up to 317 km for the standard-range version and up to 453 km for the 61.0 kWh front-wheel-drive model. Kia specifies that the standard-range figure depends on wheel size: up to 317 km with 16-inch wheels or 308 km with 18-inch wheels. The long-range figure applies only to the 61 kWh FWD variant, as Kia states on its EV2 product page.
#1 Best Overall
- Power - 100 Max x 2 @ 2 Ohms, 50 Max x 2 @ 4 Ohms
- Class A/B Topology - Class ‘A’ amplifiers have enormous amount of current flowing through its output transistors with no audio signal. Class ‘B’ amplifiers have no current flowing through its outputs with no audio signal
- Full Range - With a Full Range amplifier you not only have the option to run your speakers, but also your subwoofers
- Low & High Level Inputs - A low level (RCA) input is measured in voltages. A high level (+/- wire) input is measured in wattages. Both essentially carry signal from your receiver to your amplifier to your speakers
- Fixed Low-Pass Crossover - Subwoofers reproduce sound based on a number of different low-range frequencies. Set the switch to the Low Pass mode for optimized bass frequency reproduction
These are WLTP figures, a standardised test-cycle measure rather than a guarantee of distance in everyday driving. Kia UK says speed, outside temperature, topography, driving style and electricity-consuming equipment can affect real-life range; its specification page also labels its data preliminary and subject to change. Expect actual range to vary with conditions, and check the current local specification for the wheels and version you intend to buy.
Some early launch material quoted 448 km for the long-range EV2 while WLTP information was pending. Kia’s later European product information lists up to 453 km. The later published figure is the appropriate one to use as Kia’s current stated WLTP maximum, rather than treating both numbers as separate versions.

- Power - 500 Max x 2 @ 2 Ohms, 250 Max x 2 @ 4 Ohms, 1000 Max Bridged x 1 @ 4 Ohms
- Bridgeable - Dramatically increase the power output to you speakers and subwoofers by connecting two amplifier channels
- Variable Low Pass Crossover - Subwoofers reproduce sound based on a number of different low-range frequencies. You can set exact sound specifications for the bass frequency reproduction
- Variable High Pass Crossover - Speakers reproduce sound based on high, low or mid-range frequencies. A variable high pass crossover gears specifically towards “highs” such as all size speakers including mid ranges and tweeters
- Variable Bass Boost - With Variable Bass Boost you have the control of exactly how much BASS you want to pump out to your subwoofer(s)
Charging: what Kia says
Kia Ireland quotes approximately 29 minutes for a 10–80% DC charge on the standard-range EV2 and approximately 30 minutes on the long-range model, under optimal conditions on its 400 V architecture. These are conditional manufacturer charging claims, not guaranteed stop times: charger output, battery temperature and other conditions can affect the session. The Ireland launch information lists 11 kW AC charging and optional 22 kW AC charging; verify which capability is fitted to a specific market version and trim. Kia Ireland’s announcement provides the charging specifications.
Cabin space and practicality
Kia Europe describes a sliding and reclining rear seat that can be adjusted to balance passenger room and luggage space. With the seat positioned for rear passengers, Kia lists up to 958 mm of rear legroom; moving it forward allows up to 403 litres of boot capacity. A 15-litre front trunk is intended for charging cables and smaller items. These are Kia’s published capacity figures, and the usable arrangement depends on the seat position. See the European product page for the stated measurements.

Displays and equipment
Kia Ireland describes a panoramic dashboard layout with 12.3-inch driver and central displays and a 5.3-inch climate display. Later Ireland market information also identifies a lower-priced ccNC Lite system with the same layout and core functionality, so check the trim’s precise infotainment specification rather than assuming every version has identical software or features.
In Ireland, Kia lists Air trim equipment including 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, panoramic displays, over-the-air updates, smart cruise control, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Kia also says blind-spot collision avoidance, lane-keep assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 are standard across Ireland-market models. Trim content and standard safety equipment can differ by market; these statements should not be read as a specification for every country.

EV2 vs EV3: what is the practical difference?
Kia UK positions the EV2 as the shorter, more city-oriented model, while the EV3 is longer and offers more interior space and range. That is the manufacturer’s broad positioning, not a substitute for comparing the versions currently sold in your market. Before choosing, compare local prices and incentives, battery and WLTP figures, wheel size, included equipment, rear-seat and cargo layouts, AC charging capability, DC charging conditions and warranty terms.
Who should consider the Kia EV2?
- Consider the standard-range version if its WLTP range suits your routine and the local price difference matters more than the extra stated range. Remember that the published maximum varies with wheel size.
- Consider the long-range version if you regularly need more distance between charges and the added cost fits your budget. Kia’s stated maximum of 453 km applies specifically to the 61.0 kWh FWD variant.
- Look closely at the seating and boot arrangement if you often carry both rear passengers and luggage: the sliding seat lets you trade space between the two.
- Check charging equipment on the exact trim if home charging speed matters. The Ireland information lists 11 kW AC and optional 22 kW AC, but availability is market- and version-dependent.
What this review cannot establish
Kia’s published specifications and claims do not establish independent real-world range, measured efficiency, ride comfort, handling or acceleration performance. Nor do they establish an independent crash-test rating. Those questions require evidence beyond the official product information cited here, so treat the EV2’s range and charging numbers as manufacturer claims and its safety features as equipment descriptions—not proof of comparative safety performance.
