RepairPal reports an average annual repair and maintenance cost of $694 for the Jeep Wrangler, but that broad estimate is not a guaranteed yearly bill. Actual costs vary with model year, powertrain, age, mileage, location, shop, modifications and off-road use. For service intervals, use the owner’s manual for your specific Wrangler; for safety recalls, check the vehicle identification number (VIN).
How much does it cost to maintain a Jeep Wrangler?
RepairPal reports an average annual Wrangler repair and maintenance cost of $694. The page does not state the estimate’s publication year; RepairPal says costs vary by vehicle age, mileage, location and repair shop. Treat the figure as a broad reference, not a quote, a fixed maintenance budget or a prediction for a particular Wrangler.
The estimate does not provide a current cost breakdown by generation, engine, mileage or geography. A useful comparison between two service estimates should account for:
- Model year and generation, and whether the vehicle is a gasoline Wrangler or a 4xe plug-in hybrid.
- Mileage and documented maintenance history.
- Trim, modifications and tire size.
- Normal driving versus severe use or frequent off-roading.
- Region, labor rates and shop.
- Whether the quote covers scheduled service only, or also wear items and repairs.
- Whether a repair may be covered by a warranty or recall remedy.
Those distinctions matter because routine service and unexpected repairs are different expenses. A recall remedy is also different from paid maintenance: Mopar says recall repairs are performed at no cost.

What maintenance does a Wrangler need?
Use the maintenance plan in the owner’s manual for the exact model year and powertrain. Service can depend on mileage or elapsed time, and driving conditions can affect what is due. A general schedule can help you understand a service estimate, but it cannot reliably capture every configuration or severe-use requirement.
RepairPal’s general schedule describes recurring oil and filter changes, tire rotations and safety inspections, among other mileage-based service entries. Treat it as a starting point for discussing an estimate, not as a substitute for the factory schedule.

Check the manual for your model year
The 2024 Wrangler owner’s manual instructs owners to lubricate door-hinge joints twice a year with white lithium grease and refers them to the vehicle’s maintenance plan. This is a specific maintenance instruction for the 2024 manual—not proof of a universal hinge defect or a schedule that should automatically be applied to other years. Check the manual for your own Wrangler before following it.
What are the most common Jeep Wrangler problems?
Reported problems and safety notices do not apply equally to every Wrangler. Model year, engine and VIN matter, and an investigation or owner survey is not proof that a particular vehicle has a defect.

Steering-pump wiring fire recall: certain 2021–2025 Wranglers
In a June 9, 2026 consumer alert, NHTSA said FCA US recalled 1,076,999 certain model-year 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles. An electrical connection issue in the electric hydraulic power-steering-pump wiring could overheat and cause a fire, including when a vehicle is off. NHTSA said it was aware of 51 likely related fires and one injury.
NHTSA’s instruction was: “Affected Gladiator and Wrangler owners should keep vehicles outside until they are repaired.” The model-year range alone does not establish that a particular vehicle is included. Check the VIN for recall status and follow the latest NHTSA and Mopar instructions; remedy and completion information can change.

Loss-of-motive-power evaluation: certain 2021–2024 Wrangler 4xe vehicles
NHTSA’s September 6, 2024 information request documents preliminary evaluation RQ24012 into alleged loss of motive power in certain 2021–2024 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrids. The agency cited 68 reports and noted an earlier recall addressing a potential engine-shutdown condition in certain plug-in hybrids. The reports are not a count of confirmed failures, and a preliminary evaluation does not establish that every 4xe is affected. Check NHTSA’s investigation record and the vehicle’s VIN-specific recall status for current information.
Electronics concerns reported for the 2024 model
Consumer Reports’ 2024 Wrangler reliability page says the model is less reliable than other vehicles from the same model year, based on its latest subscriber survey. It lists in-car electronics as a trouble spot, with examples involving cameras and sensors, display screens, and steering-wheel controls. These are survey-reported signals for the 2024 model, not a ranking of every Wrangler year or evidence that an individual vehicle has one of these problems.

How to check Jeep Wrangler recalls by VIN
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN), usually visible through the windshield on the driver’s side or on vehicle paperwork.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup to see whether the vehicle has an open safety recall.
- Check Mopar’s recall lookup and follow its current instructions for contacting a dealer and arranging an eligible remedy.
- If a recall notice gives a safety instruction, follow it while arranging the repair. Recall repairs are performed at no cost, according to Mopar.
A model-year range or an investigation announcement is not a substitute for a VIN check. Use the current vehicle-specific results rather than an old recall count or a past expected notification date.
