If you own a potentially affected Jeep Wrangler 4xe or Grand Cherokee 4xe, check its VIN now. For vehicles covered by recall 25V-741 that have not received the remedy, NHTSA says to park outside and away from structures and other vehicles, and not to charge. The recall covers certain Wrangler plug-in hybrids from model years 2020–2025 and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids from model years 2022–2026; the model year alone does not confirm whether a specific vehicle is affected.
What the Jeep 4xe fire-risk recall means
NHTSA campaign 25V-741 concerns a possible defect in the high-voltage battery. In rare circumstances, cells in a battery pack may have separator damage; in combination with other complex cell interactions, that damage could lead to a vehicle fire. NHTSA’s November 4, 2025 consumer alert reported one injury potentially related to the defect. Those figures reflect the notice at that time, not a real-time incident count. NHTSA’s consumer alert
NHTSA reported 320,065 potentially affected vehicles in that alert: 228,221 Wrangler PHEVs and 91,844 Grand Cherokee PHEVs. These are potential population figures, not confirmation that any particular vehicle is included.
Which Jeep models and years are covered?
The campaign covers certain plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in these model-year ranges:

Not every vehicle in those ranges is necessarily affected. Check the VIN using NHTSA’s or Mopar’s recall lookup, then follow the instructions shown for that vehicle.

- Do not charge the vehicle while waiting for the recall remedy.
- Check the VIN and contact an authorized Jeep dealer for the vehicle’s current repair status and next steps.
NHTSA’s November 4, 2025 alert said: “Owners should park outside and away from structures and other vehicles until their vehicle has been remedied.” The alert also said owners should refrain from charging until a remedy was available and performed. Because that notice described status on its publication date, use the current VIN lookup and dealer guidance rather than treating its statement that a remedy was not yet available as a current status update. How to check a Jeep 4xe recall by VIN
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN), usually visible at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side and on vehicle paperwork.
- Enter it in the NHTSA recall lookup or the Mopar recall lookup.
- Review the results for campaign 25V-741 and follow any vehicle-specific instructions. If the result is unclear, contact an authorized Jeep dealer and ask about the VIN’s status under 25V-741.
A model-year match is a reason to check, not proof of inclusion. Recall status is tied to the individual vehicle and can change as repairs are completed.

Does the new recall apply if the Jeep had an earlier software update?
It may. The 2025 campaign includes vehicles previously recalled and remedied under NHTSA campaign 24V-720, also referred to in the manufacturer filing as the earlier 95B software remedy. FCA US reported that its investigation opened July 3, 2025, and that, as of October 13, 2025, nine fires had occurred in vehicles that received the earlier remedy. The company determined that the earlier software did not detect certain battery abnormalities that could lead to fire. NHTSA-hosted FCA US recall filing
Because the expanded campaign includes previously remedied vehicles, an earlier software update does not by itself establish that no action is needed. Check the VIN for 25V-741 and follow the current result.

What is the recall repair?
FCA US’s filing describes a software flash, followed by high-voltage battery replacement if needed. The filing records owner-letter notifications planned in phases beginning December 17 and December 23, 2025. That filing describes the manufacturer’s remedy and notification plan; it does not establish whether a remedy is available or complete for a particular VIN today. This is a manufacturer-service repair involving the vehicle’s high-voltage system. Do not attempt a battery repair or rely on aftermarket parts or generic fire-safety products as a substitute for the recall remedy or NHTSA’s instructions.
