A service reminder is not the same as a warning light. Scheduled reminders can be reset after maintenance. Check-engine, oil-pressure, brake, airbag, charging, ABS, ESC, TPMS and other persistent warning lights indicate a condition that must be corrected and diagnosed, not simply switched off.

First identify your Creta and its control layout
Hyundai publishes separate owner’s manuals for the Creta covering September 2020–January 2024 and the Creta from January 2024 onward. Menu names, available controls and the location of the settings can vary with model year, market and equipment. Before changing anything, use the manual that matches your vehicle rather than copying a button sequence from another Creta.

Do not start by searching for a universal pedal, ignition-key or steering-wheel combination. Hyundai’s documented procedure uses the Service interval setting, and there is no single sequence that applies to every Creta configuration.

Reset the service reminder through the menu
1. Park safely and switch the vehicle on
Park on a level, safe surface, select Park or neutral as appropriate, and apply the parking brake. Do not drive while operating the menus. Switch the ignition or vehicle power to ON without starting to drive. Keep the vehicle stationary until the setting is changed.
2. Open the settings menu
Use the instrument-cluster buttons or the infotainment touchscreen, depending on your Creta. Look for User Settings or Vehicle Settings. The 2020–2024 owner’s manual places the service function under User Settings; later vehicles can present an equivalent vehicle-settings path with different labels.
3. Select Service interval
Enter Service interval. This is the maintenance counter, not a diagnostic menu for fault codes. Read the current time and distance values before changing them. If a shop has just serviced the car, use the interval specified for your engine, transmission and market rather than entering a convenient guess.

4. Use Reset when it is available
If the screen presents Reset, select it and accept the confirmation prompt. A reset changes the scheduled-maintenance counter; it does not repair a fault or erase diagnostic trouble codes.
5. If Reset is not shown, enable or adjust the interval
Some Creta versions expose Enable service interval and Adjust interval instead of a separate reset command. Turn the service function on if it is disabled, then enter the correct service time and distance. Hyundai’s 2020–2024 manual notes that using this menu may require an authorized Hyundai dealer. If the values cannot be edited, the menu is locked, or the vehicle will not retain the change, stop trying random sequences and arrange dealer assistance.
6. Power-cycle and verify
Turn the vehicle completely off, wait for the cluster and infotainment system to shut down, then switch it on again. Reopen Service interval and confirm that the reminder and the time/distance values now reflect the completed service. A restart verifies that the setting was stored; it does not substitute for investigating a warning lamp.

What to do when the reminder still appears
Check the interval values, not just the message
Re-enter the menu and verify both the time and distance. An incorrect value can make the reminder return sooner than expected. Make sure the service function is enabled and that you confirmed the final prompt. If the display shows an interval but no reset control, follow the adjust procedure in the matching owner’s manual.
Consider a battery, fuse or low-voltage event
Hyundai states that disconnecting the battery, switching off a fuse or allowing the battery to discharge can make the stored service mileage and remaining days inaccurate. The reminder may therefore reappear even though the maintenance was completed. After the electrical issue is corrected, set the service interval again and verify it after a complete power cycle.
Separate a reminder from a fault message
A maintenance-due message that changes when the Service interval values are edited is a scheduled reminder. A warning symbol, audible alert or message that remains after the interval is reset is a different issue. Photograph the exact icon and text, note when it appears, and use the relevant section of the owner’s manual. Do not keep resetting the service counter to hide a fault indication.

Escalate when the menu will not save
Dealer help is appropriate when the setting is unavailable, the menu is locked, the cluster and touchscreen disagree, or the reminder returns immediately after correct values are entered. Tell the service adviser the model year, the exact wording, the interval you entered and whether the battery or a fuse was recently disconnected. Those details narrow the diagnosis.
Why dashboard warning lights are different
Hyundai’s warning-light guidance says: “Some warning lights illuminate briefly when starting your vehicle. This is normal. But if a warning light stays on — or if one illuminates while driving — it’s an indication that something needs attention.” A brief illumination during the startup self-check is expected. A light that remains on, returns after startup or appears while driving requires the action specified for that symbol.

The Creta manual explains that the master-warning light turns off and its icon disappears when the warning situation is solved. That is different from forcing the display to clear. If the underlying condition remains, the warning should be expected to return.

This table is a triage guide, not a replacement for the warning-light section of your exact manual. Symbols can look similar, and the required action depends on the vehicle’s equipment and the market in which it was sold.
When it is safe to continue and when to stop
Brief startup illumination
Most warning lamps illuminate briefly while the vehicle performs its startup check. If they go out as expected and no message remains, the self-check has completed normally.
A light that stays on before driving
Read the icon and text before moving. For a non-urgent reminder, schedule the required maintenance. For a brake, oil-pressure, charging, airbag or other potentially serious symbol, follow the manual’s stop-and-inspect instructions instead of attempting a reset.
A light that appears while driving
Reduce risk first: keep control, signal and pull over where safe if the symbol or the manual indicates an urgent condition. Do not assume that clearing a service message will make continued driving safe. Arrange Hyundai-authorized inspection when the warning remains or returns.
Common mistakes and their fixes
- Using another model year’s instructions: open the manual for your Creta’s year and equipment because labels and controls vary.
- Looking for a pedal or key combination: use the documented Service interval menu instead of an unverified sequence.
- Resetting before recording the values: note the existing time and distance so an incorrect entry can be identified.
- Entering a generic interval: use the interval specified for your vehicle and service schedule, not a value copied from a different engine or market.
- Treating every light as maintenance: fault indicators require diagnosis; they are not cosmetic counters.
- Ignoring electrical history: mention any battery discharge, battery replacement or switched-off fuse when a stored interval becomes inaccurate.
- Repeating resets when the light returns: stop and investigate the underlying condition or obtain professional inspection.
- Operating menus while moving: make all changes while parked with the vehicle safely secured.
A practical decision path
- Read the exact message or identify the symbol.
- If it says maintenance, park, switch the vehicle to ON, open User Settings or Vehicle Settings, and choose Service interval.
- Use Reset if available; otherwise enable the function and adjust the documented time and distance.
- Turn the vehicle off and on, then verify the stored values.
- If the message returns, check for an incorrect interval and consider recent battery, fuse or low-voltage events.
- If the alert is a warning light, follow the relevant manual section instead of resetting the service counter.
- Stop safely for an urgent symbol and arrange Hyundai-authorized inspection when a warning remains, returns or appears while driving.
What a dealer or service technician should check
When the menu cannot be edited or a warning persists, provide the technician with the exact model year, engine and market if known, the displayed text or symbol, the date of the last service, the values entered in Service interval, and any recent electrical work. The technician can determine whether the issue is a stored interval, a low-voltage event, a fuse or battery problem, or an active vehicle fault. A service reminder reset should be recorded alongside the maintenance performed so the next interval starts from the correct date and distance.
Keep the reset tied to the actual maintenance
Reset the counter only after the scheduled work has been completed and documented. Keep the invoice or service record with the date, odometer reading and work performed. That record prevents a reset from being mistaken for proof that oil, filters, brakes, tyres or other maintenance items were serviced. The dashboard counter tracks timing; it does not verify the quality or completeness of the work.
