Samsung Galaxy phones connect to Toyota vehicles in three main ways: Bluetooth, wired Android Auto, and wireless Android Auto. Bluetooth is enough for hands-free calls and music. Android Auto is the right choice for supported navigation, messaging, media apps, and voice control on the Toyota display. The correct setup depends on your Toyota’s model year, trim, and multimedia system.
Complete setup while parked. Toyota menus, USB ports, and Android Auto support vary considerably between vehicles, so confirm details in your Toyota owner resources and the manual for your exact vehicle.

Choose the right connection method

Bluetooth pairing does not automatically provide Android Auto. Likewise, a Toyota with wired Android Auto may not support wireless Android Auto.

Check compatibility first
- Identify your Galaxy model and Android version. Samsung lists Android 8.0 or later with a data plan as a general Android Auto requirement; current setup behavior can vary by software version.
- Identify the Toyota model year, trim, and multimedia system. Check whether it supports Bluetooth, wired Android Auto, or native wireless Android Auto.
- Confirm that your phone has mobile-data service. Google requires mobile-data connectivity for Android Auto features.
- Locate the Toyota USB port labeled for media, smartphone integration, or Android Auto. Some ports are charging-only.
- Install available phone and Toyota multimedia updates.
- Check whether another paired phone is already connecting first.
Google says Android Auto is integrated into current Android phones. Older Android versions may present different app requirements, so follow the prompt on your Galaxy rather than downloading an app automatically. See Google’s Android Auto requirements and Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance.

Connect a Samsung Galaxy to Toyota with Bluetooth
On the Toyota display
- Park safely and turn on the multimedia system.
- Press Menu.
- Select Setup.
- Open the Bluetooth or device-registration area.
- Choose the option to add or register a phone.
This path reflects Toyota’s current Audio Multimedia instructions. Older Entune and legacy systems may use different labels.
On the Galaxy phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections, then Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Select the Toyota system when it appears.
- Confirm that the pairing code matches on both screens.
- Allow contacts, call history, and message access if you want those features.
- Choose the Galaxy as the preferred or primary phone if the Toyota offers that setting.
Confirm the connection
The Toyota should list the phone as connected. Place a test call and start music playback while parked. The phone may reconnect automatically on later trips, but Android Auto will not necessarily launch just because Bluetooth pairing succeeded.
Set up wired Android Auto
Wired Android Auto is usually the best fallback when wireless projection is unavailable or unreliable.
What you need
- A compatible Toyota multimedia system.
- An unlocked Galaxy with mobile data available.
- A short, high-quality USB data cable—not a charging-only cable.
- The Toyota’s designated media or smartphone-integration USB port.
Connect directly. Do not use a USB hub or extension. Some Toyota manuals specify a cable length of approximately 6 feet (1.8 meters) or less; follow the manual for your vehicle. USB connector types also vary, so check whether your Toyota uses USB-A or USB-C.

Setup steps
- Put the Toyota in Park and turn on the multimedia display.
- Unlock the Galaxy.
- Connect the cable to the Toyota’s smartphone/media port.
- Connect the other end to the phone.
- Accept Android Auto permissions on the Galaxy.
- Accept the prompts on the Toyota display.
- Select Android Auto if it does not open automatically.
- While parked, test navigation, music, a call, and voice control.
- Secure the phone and cable before driving.
Google provides the same basic procedure in its official Android Auto setup instructions. Toyota says Google Assistant may be activated with “OK, Google,” the Android Auto microphone icon, or by pressing and holding the steering-wheel voice-command button, depending on the vehicle and phone software.
Set up wireless Android Auto
Wireless Android Auto works only when both the Galaxy and the Toyota multimedia system support it. A wireless charging pad does not create a wireless Android Auto connection.
- Confirm that the Toyota explicitly supports wireless Android Auto.
- On the Galaxy, turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services.
- Put the Toyota in Park and turn on the infotainment system.
- Open the Toyota phone-pairing controls, or hold the steering-wheel voice-command button if your system uses that method.
- Pair the Galaxy with the Toyota over Bluetooth.
- Follow the prompts on both screens and approve the requested permissions.
- Tap Android Auto on the Toyota display if it does not start automatically.
Google says the first wireless connection requires Bluetooth pairing and recommends leaving Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services enabled during setup. Wireless Android Auto still uses the phone’s wireless radios and mobile-data connection; it is not the same as connecting to a Toyota Wi-Fi hotspot. If your manual requires an initial wired setup, follow that vehicle-specific procedure.

You do not need Toyota Connected Services merely to use ordinary Bluetooth or Android Auto. Android Auto provides phone projection; Toyota’s separate services can provide features such as remote functions, vehicle status, Wi-Fi Connect, Drive Connect, Integrated Streaming, and cloud navigation.

Some Toyota services require an eligible vehicle, account, trial, or paid plan. Toyota’s Connected Services page displayed $15-per-month and $25-per-month plan signals when checked on August 18, 2026, but prices, eligibility, trials, and availability vary. The phone charges, but Android Auto does not launch
- Use the Toyota port labeled for media or smartphone integration.
- Replace the cable with a known-good data cable.
- Remove hubs and extensions.
- Restart the Galaxy and Toyota multimedia system.
- Confirm Android Auto is enabled in the Toyota’s registered-device settings.
- Check the owner’s manual for port-specific instructions.
Charging proves only that power is reaching the phone; it does not prove that the cable or port carries data.
Bluetooth works, but Android Auto does not
These are separate connection layers. Bluetooth can provide calls and audio even when the vehicle lacks Android Auto or the USB connection is failing.

- Delete the Toyota from the Galaxy’s Bluetooth devices.
- Delete the Galaxy from the Toyota’s registered-device list.
- Restart both systems.
- Pair again while parked.
- For wired Android Auto, connect the data cable after pairing.
- For wireless Android Auto, leave Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services enabled.
- Keep only one phone nearby during testing.
Android Auto connects and then disconnects
- Try a different short data cable.
- Use the correct USB port and check for a loose connector.
- Restart the phone and head unit.
- Update the Galaxy and Toyota multimedia firmware where updates are available.
- Remove unused phones and conflicting driver profiles.
- Delete the pairing and set it up again.
- Test wired Android Auto. If wired works but wireless fails, focus on the wireless pairing layer.
Do not assume a particular Samsung update or Toyota firmware version is the cause without confirming the exact model and software build.

There is no sound
- Set the Toyota audio source to Android Auto, Bluetooth, or the relevant media source.
- Raise both Toyota and phone media volume.
- Check that audio is not routed to Galaxy Buds or another Bluetooth device.
- Make sure the app is not muted.
- Check Android Auto media permissions and the active Toyota user profile.
Calls work, but contacts or messages do not
- Review contacts, call-history, and notification permissions.
- Confirm the phone is connected for more than audio only.
- Check Android Auto notification settings.
- Remember that Toyota and Android Auto support only compatible phone functions and supported apps.
Approve only permissions you are comfortable granting. You can disable sensitive notification content if other people regularly use the vehicle.
Wireless Android Auto is unavailable
First confirm native wireless support for the exact Toyota multimedia system. A Toyota may support only wired Android Auto. Check for a vehicle software update before buying an accessory.
A third-party adapter such as AAWireless or the Motorola MA1 may be an option when the Toyota already supports wired Android Auto. Compatibility is not universal, and the adapter adds another power, firmware, and troubleshooting layer.
The wrong phone connects
Temporarily disable Bluetooth on other nearby phones, remove unused devices from the Toyota’s registration list, and mark the desired Galaxy as the preferred device if that option exists.
