There is no single real-world range for every Tesla Model 3: the distance depends on the trim and setup, route, speed, weather, and how the car is driven. In one published example, Edmunds drove a 2026 Model 3 RWD 393 miles against its 363-mile EPA estimate. That was a specific mixed-route test, not a promise for every Model 3 or trip.
What does the Model 3’s EPA range mean?
The EPA figure is a standardized estimate intended to help compare vehicles, not a guarantee that a particular journey will match the label. Automakers submit annual fuel-economy data under prescribed procedures, and the EPA says it confirms approximately 15% of submitted test results. For electric-vehicle range, the vehicle is driven on a dynamometer through laboratory city and highway cycles. Results are adjusted for factors such as air conditioning, cold temperatures, and high-speed or aggressive driving before the combined figure is calculated.
The EPA’s explanation describes a common adjustment factor of 0.7 and a 55% city / 45% highway weighting for the combined value. It also describes cold and hot test cycles at 20°F and 95°F. These are details of the agency’s methodology explanation, not a literal account of how every manufacturer’s certification result must be generated. EPA fuel-economy testing and methodology
How far did a 2026 Model 3 go in an independent test?
Edmunds reported that its 2026 Tesla Model 3 RWD test car traveled 393 miles on a full charge, compared with a 363-mile EPA estimate. That is 30 miles, or 8.3%, above the estimate in this test. Edmunds measured energy use at 21.7 kWh/100 miles, versus the EPA figure of 25 kWh/100 miles. Edmunds’ 2026 Model 3 range test

The result reflects Edmunds’ defined route and settings. Its EV Range Test uses 60% city and 40% highway driving, averages 40 mph, stays within 5 mph of posted limits, selects the car’s most efficient drive setting, and keeps climate control on auto at 72°F. It is not a sustained 70-mph highway test.
Do not apply either number to every Model 3. Trim, model year, wheels and tires, battery condition, and country can differ. The available figures do not establish a complete EPA range table for every 2026 configuration.

Why can the range estimate fall faster than the miles you drive?
The miles shown on the touchscreen are based on EPA-rated energy consumption, according to Tesla’s manual. They are not a personalized prediction that automatically accounts for your driving habits, route, or current conditions. If the car is using more energy per mile than the EPA baseline, the displayed range can decrease faster than the odometer advances.
Tesla’s Energy app can show actual and projected energy use, including averages over recent trips, which can help explain the difference between rated range and your own driving. Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manual: getting the most out of range

What affects real-world Model 3 range?
Energy use changes with driving conditions and vehicle setup. Tesla identifies these factors as relevant:
- Speed and acceleration: Higher speeds and frequent rapid acceleration can use more energy.
- Weather and temperature: Hot or cold weather and wind can affect range, as can cabin heating or cooling.
- Route and trip pattern: Uphill travel, short trips, and stop-and-go driving may change consumption.
- Load and aerodynamics: Cargo, open windows, and roof or trunk racks add energy demands.
- Tires and wheels: Tire condition, wheel alignment, tire pressure, and third-party wheels can matter.
- Parked vehicle use: Preconditioning, climate controls, Sentry Mode, and other vehicle or app activity can consume energy while the car is parked.
Tesla’s product page also cautions that actual range and charging performance vary with configuration, state of charge, battery temperature, speed, weather, elevation, and other factors. Tesla Model 3

How can you conserve range?
Tesla recommends the following measures. None guarantees a fixed number of extra miles; the result depends on the vehicle and conditions.
- Drive more slowly and avoid frequent rapid acceleration.
- Limit heating and air-conditioning use when practical.
- Precondition the car while it is plugged in.
- Maintain wheel alignment and recommended tire pressure.
- Use aero covers when equipped, close the windows, and remove unnecessary cargo.
- Turn off features such as Sentry Mode when they are not needed.
Tesla says range may decline gradually as a battery ages, with mileage and battery age among the factors involved. It also notes that a slight initial reduction in estimated range during the first few months can be normal. Tesla Model 3 Owner’s Manual: range and battery use

Can tires change Model 3 range?
They can, but any claimed improvement is specific to a tire comparison and vehicle fitment. Tesla’s North American service documentation for 2024-and-newer Model 3 lists the Michelin Primacy A/S T0 all-season tire in 235/45R18 for 18-inch wheels, and describes it as offering up to a 20-mile EPA-estimated range improvement compared with previous variants. “Up to” is Tesla’s estimate for that stated comparison—not a guarantee for another Model 3, tire setup, or route. Tesla Service: Model 3 tire information
Before choosing a replacement, confirm the car’s year, wheel size, current tire specification, climate needs, and fitment requirements. A range claim for one approved tire setup should not be treated as a universal tire upgrade.
