What actually changed for 2026?
The short answer is: not much. Honda’s 2026 Ridgeline lineup adds a new exterior color, a black roof option for the Black Edition, and the Black Edition Two-Tone trim. The mechanical package remains familiar.

The V-6 itself has been part of this generation’s formula from the beginning. Honda replaced the original six-speed automatic with a nine-speed unit for 2020, but the broader powertrain concept has remained unchanged. There is no new turbocharged engine, hybrid system, larger touchscreen, or higher tow rating for 2026.

2026 Honda Ridgeline pricing
Honda’s current U.S. pricing puts the Ridgeline in a more expensive position than many shoppers may expect from a midsize pickup. These are starting MSRPs before destination, taxes, registration, and dealer charges.

With Honda’s $1,495 destination charge, the least expensive 2026 Ridgeline starts at $42,290 before other charges. Ash Green Metallic on the TrailSport adds $455. That pricing does not make the Ridgeline impossible to recommend, but it changes the comparison. Buyers can find lower advertised starting prices among body-on-frame midsize trucks, and the Ford Maverick starts from a much less expensive position.
The Honda’s equipment can narrow the gap with similarly configured competitors. All-wheel drive is standard, and buyers do not have to select an expensive package to reach the truck’s 5,000-pound towing limit. Still, a shopper walking into a dealership with a budget in the low-to-mid-$30,000 range may not consider the Ridgeline at all.
The Ridgeline’s best qualities are still intact
Minimal change does not mean the Ridgeline has stopped being useful. Its unibody construction and independent suspension give it a smoother, more carlike driving experience than most traditional midsize pickups. It is quiet, comfortable, and easy to live with as a daily driver.
The rear seat is another strong point. The Ridgeline provides useful passenger space without making the cabin feel like an afterthought, which matters to buyers using one vehicle for commuting, family trips, and weekend projects.
Honda’s cargo features also remain unusual in the class. The dual-action tailgate can swing open to the side or fold down, and the lockable In-Bed Trunk provides weather-resistant storage beneath the bed floor. Those features can be more useful in everyday life than a higher maximum towing figure that a buyer rarely needs.

Standard all-wheel drive adds confidence in poor weather, while the 5,000-pound tow rating is sufficient for many small boats, utility trailers, campers, and recreational toys. The Ridgeline is not a heavy-duty work truck, but it does not need to be one to serve a large group of owners.
Where the unchanged formula starts to hurt
1. The powertrain has no efficiency advantage
The naturally aspirated V-6 is smooth and proven, but it is no longer an especially forward-looking choice. Most 2026 Ridgeline trims are rated at 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. TrailSport versions drop to 20 mpg combined.
Those numbers are not automatically disastrous for a midsize pickup. Some larger or four-wheel-drive rivals are similarly thirsty. The problem is that Honda offers no efficient alternative. The Ford Maverick Hybrid can reach 37 mpg combined with all-wheel drive, giving buyers who do not need the Ridgeline’s additional size or towing capacity a compelling reason to choose the smaller Ford.
A hybrid Ridgeline would also fit the truck’s character. Honda could preserve the model’s comfortable road manners and practical bed while improving fuel consumption and giving the aging platform a meaningful reason to stay relevant.
2. Rivals can tow substantially more
The Ridgeline’s 5,000-pound maximum applies across the lineup, which is convenient. However, the number is increasingly modest in a class where buyers can select trucks with considerably greater capacity.

That does not make the Honda incapable of towing. It means the Ridgeline is less attractive to buyers who expect their truck to grow into heavier recreational or work duties. A Colorado, Canyon, Ranger, or Tacoma gives those shoppers more room before they reach the truck’s limits.

3. The cabin technology looks old
Every 2026 Ridgeline uses a 9-inch Display Audio touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, so the system covers the basics. But the screen size, graphics, and interface now look dated beside newer competitors.
The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, for example, offer 11.3-inch standard displays. Other rivals provide optional screens around 12 inches. Screen size is not a substitute for a good vehicle, but it is one of the first things buyers notice when comparing new trucks parked side by side.
The same issue applies to the 7-inch driver-information display. Honda has not given the Ridgeline the more flexible digital instrumentation or broader display technology that has become common in redesigned pickups. For a truck approaching $50,000 in upper trims, that makes the interior feel older than its price suggests.

4. The newer competition has narrowed Honda’s comfort advantage
The Ridgeline once stood almost alone as the refined alternative to traditional body-on-frame pickups. Its carlike ride, quiet cabin, and independent suspension clearly separated it from many rivals.
That advantage still exists, but it is not as decisive. Newer Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, and Canyon models have improved their interiors, ride quality, and daily usability. They still deliver more traditional truck capability, but they are no longer as easy to dismiss as uncomfortable or crude.
At the other end of the market, the Maverick and Santa Cruz offer unibody construction and useful cargo beds at lower price points. They do not replace the Ridgeline for customers who need its larger cabin, standard AWD, or 5,000-pound tow rating. They do, however, give practical buyers more ways to avoid paying Ridgeline money.

The timing may be Honda’s biggest problem
Reports as of August 9, 2026, say Honda plans to pause Ridgeline production during the fourth quarter of 2026 for roughly 18 months. Those reports suggest a substantially refreshed truck could arrive around late 2028, although some reporting places the timing in the third quarter of that year.
Honda has not fully confirmed the future truck’s powertrain, specifications, or exact launch date. The reported production pause has been linked to the current V-6’s difficulty meeting stricter emissions requirements, while Honda’s broader business plans point toward next-generation hybrid models beginning in 2027.
That context makes the 2026 model feel less like a deliberate update and more like a vehicle waiting for its replacement. Honda may not have wanted to invest heavily in a platform nearing the end of its life, but customers shopping today still have to compare the unchanged Ridgeline against thoroughly updated rivals.
A reported future product is not a reason to automatically avoid the 2026 truck. Buyers who value the Ridgeline’s comfort, bed trunk, rear-seat space, and standard AWD may find that its strengths match their needs. But shoppers who care most about fuel economy, towing, screen technology, or maximum capability may be better served elsewhere—or may prefer to wait and see what Honda does next.
What Honda should have changed
