The 2027 Sierra 1500 is a separate, redesigned model year with different listed engines and prices. The comparison below separates those years and shows what GMC says each truck is for.
Which GMC trucks come in Denali?
GMC’s U.S. lineup shown for 2026 includes six Denali-badged trucks, grouped across midsize, light-duty full-size, heavy-duty and electric pickups. The prices and capability figures below are GMC-published starting prices and maximum claims, not transaction prices or guarantees for every configuration. They can change, and the relevant cab, bed, engine, drivetrain and packages affect what a particular truck costs or can do.

Figures are from GMC’s 2026 Denali overview; Sierra HD details are also listed on GMC’s Sierra HD page, and Sierra EV range estimates on its Sierra EV page. The two Sierra EV range figures use different estimate bases and battery configurations, so they are not interchangeable.
How do Denali and Denali Ultimate differ?
Denali is GMC’s premium trim name; Denali Ultimate is a more exclusive, more extensively appointed version offered in the Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD families. The specific additions vary by model and year, so the badge alone does not establish that a feature is standard or that the truck has greater towing capacity.

Sierra 1500
For 2026, GMC lists the Denali with a 5.3L V8 and the Denali Ultimate with a 6.2L V8. Ultimate also adds 16-way massage front seats, Vader Chrome styling and Super Cruise with a three-year OnStar One plan. GMC’s overview gives the Denali a higher maximum towing figure than the Ultimate: 9,400 lb versus 8,900 lb. A higher trim price therefore should not be read as a higher tow rating.
Sierra HD
The 2026 Sierra HD Denali has a standard 6.6L gas V8 and an available Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 with Allison 10-speed automatic. GMC lists the diesel powertrain as standard on Denali Ultimate, which also has an Alpine Umber full-grain leather interior and distinctive Vader Chrome grille. The listed maximums are 30,800 lb for Denali and 30,700 lb for Denali Ultimate; the actual rating depends on configuration.

What changes on the 2027 Sierra 1500?
GMC has separately presented the redesigned 2027 Sierra 1500. Do not mix its prices, engines or equipment with the 2026 Sierra 1500 figures above: GMC lists different V8s for the new model year.

These are figures on GMC’s 2027 Sierra 1500 page. GMC announced the next generation on June 25, 2026, and said it was expected to launch in late 2026; a product page does not establish that a specific dealer has a vehicle in stock. - Choose by size and job: Canyon is the midsize choice; Sierra 1500 is light-duty full-size; Sierra HD is aimed at heavier-duty work; Sierra EV is the all-electric pickup.
- For towing, compare exact configurations: Use the rating for the selected model year, cab, bed, engine and drivetrain. The 2026 overview lists lower maximum tow figures for both Sierra Denali Ultimate trims than for their corresponding Denali trims.
- For powertrain, distinguish both model and year: The 2026 Sierra 1500 listings use 5.3L and 6.2L V8s for Denali and Ultimate, respectively; GMC’s 2027 listing specifies 5.7L and 6.6L V8s. Sierra HD adds gas and diesel choices, while the EV uses electric motors and battery configurations.
- For luxury and technology, verify the trim sheet: Denali emphasizes premium materials and seating; Ultimate adds different combinations of seat adjustment and massage, audio, displays, finishes or driver-assistance equipment depending on truck and year. Confirm whether each desired feature is standard, optional or tied to a package.
- For a purchase decision, treat starting prices as orientation: Confirm the selected build’s price, local inventory and feature availability with GMC or a dealer. For Sierra EV, include whether the available battery configuration and charging arrangements suit your use.
GMC’s product pages establish its stated specifications and estimates; they do not establish independent Denali sales, reliability or owner-satisfaction results. No such independent named statistic is cited here.
