The game has since launched on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, and Steam on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access beginning May 15. A PlayStation 5 version is planned for later in 2026, but Xbox has not announced a firm PS5 release date in the official information reviewed here.
The original prediction was broadly right about both the reveal and the Japanese focus. However, the finished game’s emphasis is more specific than “more Japanese cars and tracks.” Forza Horizon 6 combines a fictionalized, driveable interpretation of Japan with Tokyo landmarks, mountain-pass roads, Touge Battles, Time Attack Circuits, Drag Meets, Daikoku-inspired Car Meets, customizable garages, and a large roster that includes many Japanese vehicles without being exclusively JDM-focused.

The rumor was correct—but it is now a historical story
The headline’s original wording is outdated. Forza Horizon 6 is no longer merely expected to appear at Tokyo Game Show 2025: Playground Games officially revealed it there on September 25, 2025.
The reveal confirmed two important points that had been circulating before the event:
#1 Best Overall
- Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for PlayStation 5, PS4 and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals
- Premium Control: The Driving Force feedback racing wheel provides a detailed simulation of driving a real car, with helical gearing delivering smooth, quiet steering and a hand-stitched leather cover
- Customizable Pedals: These pressure-sensitive nonlinear brake pedals provide a responsive, accurate braking feel on a sturdy base - with adjustable pedal faces for finer control
- 900-Degree Rotation: Lock-to-lock rotation of the Driving Force means you can turn the wheel around two and a half times, hand over hand on wide turns - just like a real F1 race car
- Up Your Game: Take your racing simulation to the next level with Driving Force accessories like the Driving Force Shifter or desk and rig mounts
- Japan would be the next Horizon setting.
- Japanese automotive culture would play a meaningful role in the game’s identity.
The first point was confirmed immediately. The second became clearer through subsequent feature announcements and the official car list. The evidence now supports a more careful conclusion: Forza Horizon 6 does not simply move the existing festival formula to a Japanese-looking landscape. It uses Japanese urban driving, mountain roads, car-meet culture, night racing, time attacks, and vehicle customization as recurring parts of the world and event design.
That distinction matters. Pre-reveal speculation about particular cars, scanned vehicles, manufacturers, circuits, or licensing agreements should not be treated as confirmed information unless those details later appeared in an official Forza announcement or the official Forza Horizon 6 car list.
What Japan looks like in Forza Horizon 6
The game presents a fictionalized and driveable interpretation of Japan, not a one-to-one simulation of the entire country. Official feature material identifies Tokyo City as the game’s largest urban area and highlights recognizable locations including Shibuya Crossing, Ginko Avenue, and Tokyo Tower.

The road network also draws on recognizable Japanese driving ideas and locations. City routes are inspired by Tokyo’s C1 Loop, while mountain roads take inspiration from passes associated with Mt. Haruna and Bandai-Azuma. “Inspired by” is the important wording here: these descriptions do not establish that every road is a licensed or exact recreation of a real-world circuit.
Tokyo City is a major part of the map
Playground Games describes Tokyo City as five times larger than Guanajuato in Forza Horizon 5. That is a comparison between two in-game areas, not a claim that the virtual city covers the real-world area of Tokyo.
The city includes downtown streets, suburbs, docks, industrial areas, and multiple districts. This gives the Japan setting more variety than a single neon-heavy downtown district. Players can move between dense urban roads, waterfront and industrial environments, suburban routes, and the mountain areas beyond the city.
The presence of famous landmarks provides visual recognition, but the broader design goal is a connected driving environment rather than a museum-like recreation of Tokyo. The game’s Japan is built to support open-world racing, exploration, social meetups, and event transitions.

How the game builds Japanese car culture into its events
The strongest evidence of a renewed Japanese focus is the event and social structure—not simply the number of Japanese-branded cars.
Touge Battles
Touge Battles are nighttime races on Japanese-inspired mountain-pass routes. The format connects the game to the touge tradition of attacking winding mountain roads, where elevation changes, corners, braking points, and rhythm matter more than a straight-line top speed.
These events also give the mountain areas a distinct role. They are not just scenic roads between festival activities; they are settings for a specific kind of night driving and competition.
Time Attack Circuits
Time Attack Circuits let players concentrate on lap times across multiple circuits in Japan. This is a useful counterpoint to the freeform nature of Horizon’s open world: instead of racing a field or simply discovering roads, players can focus on repeatable lines, braking consistency, tuning, and leaderboard-style improvement.

Drag Meets bring short-form acceleration contests into the shared world. Official feature information describes locations with 12 car slots, creating a social gathering point as well as a place to test launches and straight-line performance.
That matters for the Japanese-car-culture angle because the game is presenting automotive activity as something players gather around. The setting is not only a backdrop for conventional point-to-point races; it includes spaces built around showing cars, comparing setups, and competing in specialized formats.
Car Meets inspired by Japanese gathering places
Car Meets are among the clearest signs that the developers wanted to represent car culture socially. Official descriptions reference iconic Japanese gathering places such as Daikoku and identify three meet locations:

- REALISTIC RACING SIMULATION DUO: Feel what is like to drive a real race car with G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel & Pedals and Driving Force Shifter
- PAIRED FOR PRECISION: Take full control of the race with G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel & Pedals and Driving Force Shifter
- PRECISE CONTROL: Helical transmission gears reduce noise and vibration with anti-backlash keeping wheel and pedals tight. The six-speed “H” shifter helps you execute smooth, accurate gear transitions
- FORCE FEEDBACK: The dual motor force-feedback realistically simulates the feel of tires on a turn, understeer, oversteer, drifting and more
- PREMIUM BUILD: Look, feel and durability of a real race car wheel, pedals and shifter. Wheel cover, knob and boot are covered in high-quality, hand-stitched leather with a solid steel gear shaft and polished metal pedals
- The Horizon Festival Site.
- Okuibuki Parking Lot in an alpine setting.
- A Daikoku-inspired location in Tokyo City.
At these meets, players can display vehicles, download tunes and liveries, and purchase copies of cars they see at the gathering. The feature turns the car collection into something visible and social rather than keeping every vehicle inside an isolated garage menu.
Horizon Rush and the wider event mix
The game also includes Horizon Rush obstacle-course events, including a Tokyo City Docks location. These events prevent the Japan theme from narrowing into only street racing, drifting, or mountain competition. As in previous Horizon games, the overall event mix remains broader than one national automotive scene.
Japanese cars are important, but the roster is not exclusively JDM
The official Forza Horizon 6 car list, updated July 14, 2026, is the appropriate source for checking individual confirmed models. It includes revealed cars, Car Pass vehicles, and reward cars.
Launch materials specifically identify the 2025 GR GT Prototype as the cover car and note its video-game debut in Forza Horizon 6. The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is also highlighted in the launch information. The official Series 1 content announcement identifies the Mazda Furai among the reward vehicles and says the Car Pass delivers 30 cars over time, one per week.
Those examples support the idea that Japanese vehicles are central to the game’s presentation. They do not support saying that every car is Japanese or that the game is a pure JDM collection. The official roster spans manufacturers and countries, and post-launch content includes themes such as Italian Exotics.
The most accurate description is therefore Japan-focused, not Japan-exclusive. Players interested in Japanese performance cars, trucks, prototypes, custom builds, and mountain-road culture should find substantially more thematic material than the rumor alone could establish. Players looking for a roster limited to Japanese manufacturers will not find that claim supported by the official lineup.
Garages, customization, and the ownership fantasy
Forza Horizon 6 expands the setting beyond races with player-facing spaces including Customizable Garages and The Estate. These areas give players places to display and build around their collections.

Our dedicated support team provides responsive assistance and clear guidance, ensuring a smooth, reliable, and worry-free sim racing experience.
That design fits the game’s broader interpretation of car culture. A car is not only a performance value used in an event; it can also be displayed at a meet, fitted with a tune or livery, taken to a mountain battle, tested in a time attack, or shown inside a customized personal space.
The official feature material also highlights enhanced steering-wheel animations. That confirms attention to wheel-focused presentation, but it does not establish that every racing wheel model is compatible or that a particular wheel has been tested. Compatibility should be checked for the specific Xbox or PC model before purchase.

Which version should Xbox and PC players choose?
| Option | Who it suits | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass | Eligible Xbox and PC subscribers who want to play without buying the Standard Edition separately | Availability depends on the applicable Game Pass plan and subscription status |
| Standard Edition | Players who want the base game without the additional Deluxe or Premium content | Check whether digital or physical Xbox availability is preferable |
| Deluxe Edition | Players seeking the additional content included in that edition | Compare the current contents and price before purchasing |
| Premium Edition | Players who wanted early access and the Premium content bundle | Early access began May 15; it is not the same as the May 19 standard release |
If you specifically want a physical Xbox copy, search for Forza Horizon 6 Standard Edition Xbox Series X and verify the current seller, stock, price, and format before ordering. Game Pass subscribers may not need to purchase the game separately.

Practical setup notes for Xbox and PC players
Controller players
A standard controller remains the straightforward way to play on Xbox or PC. If you need an additional or replacement input device, an Xbox Wireless Controller is a relevant accessory option, but it is not required by the game and is not specific to Forza Horizon 6.
Wheel users
The official feature material highlights steering-wheel-focused animations, which makes a wheel a plausible choice for players who prefer a more simulation-oriented setup. However, compatibility varies by model, platform, firmware, and connection method. Confirm that the exact wheel is supported on Xbox Series X|S or PC before buying; do not assume that a wheel compatible with one platform will work identically on the other.
PC troubleshooting
If the PC version has a driver-related problem, begin with the basics: install the latest graphics-driver release from the GPU manufacturer, update Windows, verify the game files through the relevant storefront, and check the game’s official support guidance. A driver-management utility such as Outbyte Driver Updater may help identify, back up, or restore Windows drivers, but it should be treated as an optional troubleshooting tool—not a guaranteed way to increase Forza Horizon 6 frame rates or fix every performance issue.
Bottom line: the “renewed focus” was real, but the final game is broader
The original prediction deserves a qualified “correct.” Forza Horizon 6 was revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Japan was confirmed as the setting, and the finished game gives Japanese automotive culture a more visible role than a generic location change would have required.

Tokyo City, Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Tower, Japanese-inspired C1 and mountain-pass roads, Touge Battles, Daikoku-inspired Car Meets, Time Attack Circuits, Drag Meets, and the Japanese-heavy portions of the car roster all reinforce that direction.
But the game is not a licensed simulation of all Japan, every road is not confirmed as a real-world recreation, and the car list is not exclusively Japanese. The best current reading is that Playground Games built a broad Horizon open world around a distinctly Japan-centered automotive identity—one that includes JDM culture without being confined to it.

The prediction came true, but the headline needed a date update. Forza Horizon 6 was officially revealed in Japan at Tokyo Game Show 2025 and launched in 2026 with a substantial Japan-centered approach to cities, mountain roads, social car meets, event types, and vehicles. It is best described as a broad Horizon game with a strong Japanese automotive identity—not an exclusively JDM game or a full simulation of Japan.
