Model-year labeling makes early coverage unusually easy to misread. Some reviews labeled “2025 Tesla Model Y” concern the outgoing design. Consumer Reports, for example, explicitly notes that its 2025 road-test report is based on the earlier Model Y rather than the refreshed vehicle introduced during 2025. That distinction matters because the suspension, cabin design, seating equipment, and noise isolation are materially different.

The refreshed vehicle is often referred to as Juniper, although buyers should rely on the equipment and production details of the specific vehicle rather than the nickname. Tesla’s launch material describes the updated Model Y as having a more comfortable ride, improved refinement, and powered, fast-folding second-row seats. Tesla’s introduction to the new Model Y is the appropriate reference for the manufacturer’s description of those changes.
The ride is better—but the improvement has limits
The outgoing Model Y was frequently criticized for a stiff, choppy ride. Small imperfections could reach the cabin with more force than many drivers expected from a family-oriented crossover, and the problem was especially noticeable with passengers in the second row.
The refreshed Model Y addresses that criticism with suspension revisions and additional work aimed at reducing noise and vibration. However, “more comfortable” should not be translated into “plush.” MotorTrend’s later testing found that the refresh reduced some small-bump harshness but that larger impacts could still be jarring, particularly for rear-seat occupants. Other professional impressions described a substantial increase in comfort and refinement while still finding the Model Y less involving than some competitors.
The fairest summary is that the new Model Y has a broader comfort zone. It deals with ordinary broken pavement more gracefully than the earlier car, but it has not become the segment benchmark for suspension suppleness. A sharp pothole, expansion joint, or large compression can still expose the limits of the setup.

Powered rear seats make the Model Y more useful
One of the most practical upgrades is the second row’s powered adjustment. Depending on the vehicle and market, the rear seats can recline and fold flat using powered mechanisms, making it easier to change between passenger and cargo configurations.
This is more significant than a novelty feature. Folding a rear seat manually is not difficult, but it can require reaching into the cargo area, pulling release straps, and pushing the seat into position. Owners should follow the procedure in the 2025-and-newer Model Y owner’s manual and remove objects before folding the seat backs. Cargo, child-seat hardware, or other items in the way can prevent the mechanism from operating correctly or damage the interior.

These features should be treated as configuration- and market-dependent. Tesla’s current Model Y specifications and ordering information can change as versions are added or removed, and the owner’s manual repeatedly qualifies certain features with “if equipped.” A review vehicle with ventilated seats, premium audio, ambient lighting, or a rear display should not be assumed to represent every refreshed Model Y.

The touchscreen remains central to the experience
The minimalist dashboard looks clean, but many functions that other vehicles operate with physical buttons or dedicated controls are placed on the center touchscreen. Climate adjustments, vehicle settings, and other frequently used operations can therefore require visual attention and menu navigation.
The interface is powerful and familiar to many Tesla drivers, but it is not universally intuitive. Drivers who prefer physical controls may find the cabin less relaxing even after the ride and materials improve. The updated Model Y is technologically polished; that does not mean every interaction is simpler or safer than a conventional control layout.
Steering feel remains a weakness for some drivers
Later testing has continued to describe the steering as numb or, at times, twitchy. The Model Y can accelerate quickly and change direction confidently, but it does not necessarily provide the clear road feedback that driving enthusiasts expect. The third row is still a compromise
Where offered, the optional third row remains best suited to children or short trips. It does not turn the Model Y into a genuinely adult-friendly three-row SUV. Buyers who regularly carry seven adults should look beyond the Model Y, while those who need occasional extra seating may find it useful.
Everyday ownership implications
The powered seat system and the Model Y’s existing cargo flexibility make the refreshed vehicle particularly attractive to owners who alternate between passengers and bulky items.
