Directed by Joseph Kosinski—the filmmaker associated with Top Gun: Maverick—the Apple Original Film combines a fictional comeback drama with access to real Formula 1 environments. Here is what the first trailer established, who is in the cast, and how to watch or own the finished movie now.
Watch the first official F1 The Movie trailer
The trailer released by Apple on March 13, 2025, was the first major official look at the film. Its job was to sell three ideas at once: cockpit-level speed, the pressure of an F1 comeback, and the uneasy partnership between an experienced driver and a younger star.

Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former racing phenom whose career was nearly ended by a crash. Years later, Hayes is drawn back into the Formula 1 world and asked to race alongside a younger driver. The footage emphasizes his instinctive feel for a car, his reluctance to return to the spotlight, and the conflict created when old experience meets a new generation of competition.
Because the trailer is promotional footage for a fictional feature, its crashes, rivalries, and apparent race outcomes should not be treated as evidence of real sporting results. The film uses Formula 1 as its setting, but Sonny Hayes is a fictional character—not a biography of a real driver and not a documentary.
What is F1 The Movie about?
In Apple’s story, Sonny Hayes was once regarded as a major racing talent. A serious crash brought that career close to an end. His return to Formula 1 places him in a team environment where he must work with a younger driver while trying to prove that his instincts and experience still matter at the highest level of motorsport.
The central question is not simply whether Hayes can drive quickly again. It is whether he can adapt to a team, a sport, and a generation that continued without him. That gives the movie a familiar sports-drama structure—an experienced competitor gets one more opportunity—while the production’s Formula 1 access supplies the scale and speed.

Official Formula 1 production material has presented the movie as an unusually authentic racing production, built around access to the sport and real racing environments. That supports describing the film as a fictional F1 drama made with substantial motorsport access; it does not make the story a factual account of a particular driver or season.
Cast and creative team
- Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, the former racing star pulled back into Formula 1.
- Damson Idris in the younger-driver role at the center of Hayes’s return.
- Kerry Condon in a principal supporting role.
- Joseph Kosinski as director.
Apple’s official title materials provide the authoritative cast and viewing information. The production’s connection with the team behind Top Gun: Maverick also explains the trailer’s emphasis on practical-feeling speed, close cockpit perspectives, and large-format spectacle.

How to watch F1 The Movie now
The official streaming destination is Apple TV. You can use Apple’s official title page to check the current viewing option for your location. Access, subscription requirements, presentation, and catalog availability can vary by country and may change over time, so do not assume that every Apple account includes the movie or that the same option appears in every region.
Best next step: search for F1 The Movie in Apple TV or open its official Apple title page, then confirm the availability and terms shown for your region before watching.
Want to own it? Physical editions are available
For viewers who want a permanent copy or a home-theater presentation, the most relevant release is F1 The Movie 4K UHD. The movie is also available in Blu-ray and DVD formats. Check the live retailer listing before buying: edition details, region compatibility, packaging, included digital copies, pricing, and stock can differ.
A 4K UHD disc is the natural choice for a compatible 4K television and player. Blu-ray may be the better-value option for a standard high-definition setup, while DVD is intended for older or basic players and will not provide the same picture detail. Do not assume that a SteelBook, special bundle, or digital code is included unless the specific listing confirms it.
The soundtrack: vinyl and CD options
The film also has a physical soundtrack ecosystem. The official F1 The Album store lists vinyl products, including gold vinyl and a limited-edition red-flag vinyl associated with Hans Zimmer’s original score. Warner Music also lists an official CD edition of F1 The Album.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThese are separate collector and music purchases rather than substitutes for the movie. If you are looking for F1 The Album vinyl or the F1 The Movie soundtrack CD, identify the exact pressing or format first; soundtrack variants can differ in color, packaging, track presentation, and availability.
What the trailer gets right about the movie’s appeal
- It makes the cockpit the viewpoint. The trailer sells the physical sensation of racing by keeping the audience close to the driver, the car, and the consequences of small decisions at speed.
- It gives the spectacle a personal stake. Hayes is not simply entering a race; he is returning after a crash that almost ended his career.
- It builds conflict around two generations of drivers. The experienced Hayes and the younger driver are positioned as partners who must also negotiate trust, status, and competing approaches to racing.
- It uses real F1 surroundings without turning the story into nonfiction. The Formula 1 setting and production access contribute authenticity, while the characters and comeback plot remain fictional.
Bottom line
F1 The Movie is the Brad Pitt Formula 1 drama that Apple first previewed with its official trailer on March 13, 2025. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, stars Pitt as fictional driver Sonny Hayes, and also features Damson Idris and Kerry Condon. It is now a released movie: it played in theaters in June 2025 and arrived globally on Apple TV on December 12, 2025.
