The C7 Chevrolet Corvette covers the 2014–2019 U.S. model years. The range starts with the naturally aspirated Stingray, adds the track-ready Stingray Z51 package, moves to the wide-body Grand Sport and supercharged Z06, and ends with the one-year 755-hp ZR1 for 2019. Current national dealer-purchase snapshots range from about $34,600 for an older Stingray coupe to $136,000 for a 2019 ZR1 convertible, although mileage, condition, options, transmission, location, and history can move an individual car far above or below those figures.
The most important shopping distinction is hardware, not badge appearance. Z51 adds dry-sump oiling, cooling, brakes, suspension, tires, gearing, an electronic limited-slip differential, and performance exhaust. Grand Sport adds the Z06-style wide body and much of its chassis hardware while retaining the naturally aspirated LT1. The Z06 and ZR1 bring supercharged engines, more cooling, larger consumables, and substantially higher repair costs.
C7 Corvette lineup at a glance
For U.S. buyers, the C7 lineup can be divided into five meaningful performance configurations:
- Stingray, 2014–2019: the standard Corvette with a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated LT1 V8.
- Stingray Z51, 2014–2019: a performance package applied to the Stingray; it is not a separate engine model.
- Grand Sport, 2017–2019: a naturally aspirated LT1 Corvette with the Z06-style wide body and much of the Z06 chassis.
- Z06, 2015–2019: the wide-body, supercharged LT4 model rated at 650 horsepower.
- ZR1, 2019 only: the flagship C7 with a 755-hp supercharged LT5 and unique cooling and aerodynamic hardware.
The table below summarizes the factory differences. Horsepower figures are manufacturer or SAE-rated outputs and can vary by model year and equipment; they are not independent dyno results.

Stingray: the starting point, not an ordinary sports car
The Stingray is the baseline C7, but its standard LT1 V8 makes it a serious performance car. It also has rear-wheel drive, direct fuel injection, cylinder deactivation, and independent suspension. The coupe uses a removable roof panel, while a power-operated convertible joined the lineup after the coupe.
The 2014 Stingray offered a 7-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. For 2015, Chevrolet introduced the 8-speed 8L90 automatic, replacing the 6-speed automatic. The newer transmission offered a quicker claimed acceleration time and improved highway fuel economy compared with the earlier automatic. It remained available through 2019. The 2015 transmission material explains the change.
A standard Stingray is the most approachable C7 for daily use and generally has lower tire, brake, cooling, and bodywork costs than the wide-body models. It also has narrower tires, less aggressive suspension tuning, and less track-oriented cooling than a Z51, Grand Sport, or Z06. That makes the base car easier to live with, but it is important not to mistake a standard Stingray for a Z51 simply because it has a spoiler, attractive wheels, or a loud exhaust.
Stingray output and equipment changes
Early Chevrolet material described the 2014 engine as approximately 450 hp and 450 lb-ft. Production specifications settled at approximately 455 hp and 460 lb-ft. Similarly, early 2015 Z06 announcements cited at least 625 hp and 635 lb-ft, while the final SAE-certified rating was 650 hp and 650 lb-ft. The 2014 launch material and production specification listing help explain why older references may show different numbers.
On later Stingrays, available performance exhaust can raise the published rating to 460 hp and 465 lb-ft. That is not the universal output of every base Stingray. A buyer should verify the exhaust and build configuration rather than use the model year alone.
For 2018, the Stingray received standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became available as part of the newer connectivity equipment. The 2018 product information lists the relevant equipment changes.
Stingray Z51: the performance package worth seeking
Z51 is a package, not a standalone engine or body model. It turns the Stingray into a much more capable performance car by adding hardware intended for sustained hard driving. Core content includes:
- Dry-sump engine oiling.
- Additional cooling capacity.
- More aggressive gearing.
- Upgraded brake hardware.
- Performance suspension tuning.
- An electronic limited-slip differential.
- Performance summer tires.
- Performance exhaust.
- A rear spoiler and related aerodynamic changes.
Exact contents changed by model year, so the build sheet and RPO codes matter. Confirm the Z51 RPO code rather than trusting a seller’s description, a spoiler, black wheels, or a claimed performance exhaust.
For many buyers, a manual Z51 coupe is the best value in the C7 range. It provides dry-sump oiling, better cooling, stronger brakes, and more track tolerance than the base Stingray without the supercharger heat, wide-body repair costs, and much higher consumable bills of a Z06. The trade-off is that Z51 tires, brakes, and dry-sump service cost more than standard Stingray components.
Grand Sport: the naturally aspirated wide-body C7
Introduced for 2017, the Grand Sport combines the LT1’s naturally aspirated response with much of the Z06’s chassis capability. It is not merely a cosmetic Stingray. The model includes:
- A 460-hp, 465-lb-ft LT1 V8 with dry-sump oiling.
- Z06-style wide front and rear fenders.
- Wider wheels and tires.
- Z06-derived brakes.
- Standard magnetic ride control.
- Specific springs and stabilizer bars.
- A standard electronic limited-slip differential.
- Performance cooling.
- More aggressive aerodynamic treatment.
The available Z07 package adds carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and more aggressive carbon-fiber aerodynamic hardware. Chevrolet estimated approximately 1.05 g of cornering capability for the Grand Sport and as much as 1.2 g with Z07. Chevrolet also estimated 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds for a Z07-equipped car with the 8-speed automatic; actual results depend on tires, surface, temperature, launch procedure, and test conditions. See the 2017 Grand Sport specifications for the factory claims.
The Grand Sport is often the balanced choice for an enthusiast who wants a wide-body appearance, serious brakes and cooling, and naturally aspirated throttle response. It remains expensive to operate, however. Its wide tires, brakes, body panels, and optional carbon-ceramic hardware are not Stingray-cost items.
Z06: 650-hp supercharged performance
The C7 Z06 returned for 2015 with the supercharged LT4. It is rated at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft and uses dry-sump lubrication, a wide-body structure, large cooling openings, aggressive aero, wide performance tires, and substantial brake hardware.
The C7 Z06 was also significant because it was the first production Z06 offered with a supercharged engine, an automatic transmission, and a convertible body style. The coupe retained a removable roof panel.

With the Z07 package and 8-speed automatic, Chevrolet claimed 0–60 mph in 2.95 seconds, a 10.95-second quarter-mile at 127 mph, up to 1.2 g of lateral acceleration, and approximately 99.6 feet from 60–0 mph. Those are Chevrolet’s stated performance figures, not a guarantee for every used example. The factory Z06 performance release identifies the package and test claims.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe Z06 is the choice for buyers who prioritize maximum acceleration and supercharged character. Its costs are correspondingly higher. Heat management, supercharger-related complexity, wide tires, large brakes, and possible track wear all make a pre-purchase inspection more important than on a lightly used Stingray.
What Z07 changes
Z07 is a major performance package rather than an interior trim. Depending on the model, it can bring carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and more aggressive carbon-fiber aero. These parts can improve repeated track performance, but they can also make a used car substantially more expensive to recommission. A street-only buyer should not assume that carbon-ceramic brakes are automatically the best value; replacement costs can be substantial, and the benefit is greatest under repeated high-temperature use.
2019 ZR1: the one-year flagship
The C7 ZR1 was sold only for 2019 and should be treated as a separate collector/performance category rather than an ordinary trim above the Z06. Its hand-built LT5 is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 rated at 755 hp and 715 lb-ft. It was available with a 7-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.
Chevrolet quoted a 212-mph top speed for the coupe, sub-three-second 0–60 performance, and high-10-second quarter-mile performance with the automatic. The ZR1 also received additional heat exchangers and a unique front-end cooling system. The available ZTK Track Performance Package includes an adjustable carbon-fiber high wing, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, special suspension tuning, and carbon-fiber splitter end caps.

The high-wing configuration prioritizes downforce and can reduce top speed compared with the low-wing configuration. Carbon-ceramic brakes and specialized tires can also be expensive to replace. The 2019 ZR1 specification card and ZR1 convertible and performance material provide the factory details.
What 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LZ, and 3ZR mean
One of the easiest ways to misread a C7 advertisement is to treat every letter-number designation as a performance trim.
| Designation | Used on | What it primarily describes |
|---|---|---|
| 1LT, 2LT, 3LT | Stingray | Interior and convenience equipment levels |
| 1LZ, 2LZ, 3LZ | Grand Sport and Z06 | Interior materials, technology, and convenience equipment |
| 1ZR, 3ZR | ZR1 | ZR1-specific interior and technology content |
| Z51 | Stingray | Performance chassis, cooling, oiling, brake, tire, gearing, differential, exhaust, and aero package |
| Z07 | Grand Sport and Z06 | More aggressive track hardware, including available carbon-ceramic brakes, Cup 2 tires, and aero |
| ZTK | ZR1 | Track-focused tires, suspension, splitter parts, and high-wing aero |
Higher interior packages can materially improve daily usability and resale appeal. Typical 2LT and 3LT content can include a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, memory features, curb-view or front cameras, Bose audio, navigation or connectivity equipment, and more extensive leather or suede-wrapped trim. Exact content varies by year. A 3LZ Z06 is not more powerful than a 1LZ Z06, and a 3LT Stingray is not a substitute for Z51.
The 2018 Corvette sales brochure illustrates how the interior packages were separated from performance equipment. The 2019 ZR1 package details are in the 2019 Corvette playbook.

These values produce several useful broad ranges:
- Stingray: roughly the high-$30,000s to low-$40,000s in the cited snapshot.
- Stingray Z51: generally a modest premium over a comparable base car, although mileage, transmission, coupe body style, and equipment can matter more than the package’s original price.
- Grand Sport: broadly in the low-to-high-$50,000 range.
- Z06: broadly in the mid-$50,000s to low-$70,000s.
- ZR1: approximately $118,000 to $136,000 in the cited KBB snapshot and not meaningfully comparable with ordinary Stingray pricing.
The table also shows why there is no useful single average price for a C7. It combines six model years, several performance models, two body styles, two automatic generations, manual and automatic cars, different interior packages, special editions, modified examples, and widely varying histories.
How to interpret the unusual values
The visible 2017 Grand Sport convertible value is substantially below the coupe value, and the 2015 Z51 values are below some corresponding base-Stingray figures. Treat these as valuation results to investigate, not as proof that every convertible or Z51 is worth less. KBB figures can be affected by data availability, mileage assumptions, equipment coding, condition, and local market inputs.

Which C7 Corvette should you buy?
| Buyer priority | Best starting point | Why | What to accept or inspect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest-cost entry to the C7 | 2014–2016 Stingray | Strong LT1 performance with the lowest typical purchase and consumable costs | 2014 has the older 6-speed automatic; verify equipment and maintenance |
| Best performance value | Manual Stingray Z51 coupe | Dry sump, better cooling, brakes, tires, gearing, differential, and exhaust without Z06 complexity | Higher tire, brake, and oil-service costs than a base Stingray |
| Best all-around track-capable car | Grand Sport | Wide body, Z06-derived chassis hardware, magnetic ride control, and naturally aspirated response | Wide-body consumables and bodywork are expensive; check for track wear |
| Maximum acceleration per dollar | Z06 | 650-hp LT4 and supercar-level performance below ZR1 pricing | Inspect cooling, tires, brakes, modifications, and evidence of hard use |
| Most engaging manual experience | Manual Z51, Grand Sport, or Z06 | All offer the 7-speed manual and provide direct driver involvement | Condition and clutch wear matter more than the badge alone |
| Collector or flagship purchase | 2019 ZR1 | One-year model, 755-hp LT5, unique aero, and additional cooling | Budget for specialized tires, brakes, bodywork, and detailed originality verification |
Manual versus automatic
Every C7 performance model could be ordered with a 7-speed manual, while the automatic changed during the generation:
- 2014: 6-speed automatic.
- 2015–2019: 8-speed 8L90 automatic.
The manual is often preferred by enthusiasts for its involvement and can carry a market premium depending on region, mileage, condition, and equipment. The automatic is easier in traffic and can produce faster factory acceleration results in some configurations. Neither transmission should be chosen solely from a seller’s claim that one is universally more reliable or valuable.
On an automatic car, conduct a fully warmed test drive. Check normal automatic operation and paddle or manual mode. Look for delayed engagement, harsh or inconsistent shifts, hesitation, and especially a vibration during steady, light-throttle driving.
8L90 automatic shudder: how to test a used car
GM service documentation describes a shake or shudder during light-throttle acceleration between approximately 25 and 80 mph on vehicles equipped with the 8L90 automatic. The sensation may feel like driving over rough pavement or a rumble strip. The original bulletin covers relevant 2015–2017 applications, while later GM documentation identifies the 2015–2019 Corvette among affected 8L90 applications. This is a documented service condition, not proof that every 8-speed Corvette has the problem or that a universal failure rate exists.
- Drive the car until the engine and transmission are fully warm.
- Use light, steady throttle between roughly 25 and 80 mph.
- Repeat the test in normal automatic operation and in manual or paddle mode.
- Note any repeated rumble-strip sensation, vibration, or hesitation.
- Ask for invoices showing the correct GM fluid-exchange procedure.
- If symptoms remain, have a Chevrolet dealer diagnose the car before purchase.
Review the original service bulletin and the later fluid-service documentation discussion. A seller’s statement that the transmission was serviced is not enough; obtain the invoice and confirm the symptom is gone.
Used C7 inspection checklist
1. Verify the identity and factory equipment
- Run the VIN through a trusted decoder and obtain the original build sheet or RPO list.
- Confirm Z51, Z07, ZTK, magnetic ride control, performance exhaust, Performance Data Recorder, and brake configuration from factory records.
- Check whether the car is 1LT, 2LT, or 3LT, or 1LZ, 2LZ, or 3LZ; do not confuse an interior package with a performance package.
- For a ZR1, verify the exact aero, brake, wheel, and interior configuration.
2. Check title and accident history
- Obtain a history report, but do not treat a clean report as a substitute for inspection.
- Look for salvage, rebuilt, flood, auction, repeated listing, and undisclosed accident indicators.
- Inspect panel gaps, paint thickness, fasteners, carbon-fiber parts, headlights, and underbody damage.
- Use a Corvette-experienced technician for a pre-purchase inspection.
3. Look for track or aggressive-use wear
Low mileage does not prove light use. Inspect the front splitter and rocker panels for scraping, wheels for cracks or bends, tires for heat cycling and shoulder wear, brake rotors for cracks or heat checking, suspension links and bushings, alignment, oil and coolant leaks, underbody damage, lowered suspension, aftermarket tuning, and evidence of repeated over-rev events.
Track equipment does not prove that a car was used on a circuit, and track use does not automatically make a car undesirable. The relevant questions are how it was used, whether maintenance was documented, and whether wear is reflected in the price.

4. Budget for consumables
Wide-body Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1 cars use expensive tires and brake components. Z07 and ZTK cars can add Cup 2 tires, carbon-fiber aero, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Before buying a seemingly inexpensive performance car, price a complete set of tires, brake rotors and pads, wheels, and any damaged splitter or rocker pieces for that exact configuration.
5. Complete a VIN-specific recall search
Use the NHTSA VIN recall lookup and ask the seller for repair documentation. Among the campaigns relevant to this generation are the large 2014–2017 GM frontal-airbag and pretensioner recall and a specific 2014 Corvette sport-seat airbag recall. The actual VIN result is what determines whether a vehicle has an open campaign.
Reference documents include the 2014–2017 frontal-airbag recall notice and the 2014 sport-seat airbag recall.
Special editions and rarity
Special editions can affect desirability, but their premiums are market-dependent. Documentation, originality, mileage, color, transmission, and condition may matter more than the special-edition badge.

Common C7 buying mistakes
- Assuming every C7 has the same capability. Dry-sump oiling, cooling, tire width, brakes, chassis tuning, and aero create meaningful differences.
- Calling 2LT or 3LT a performance trim. Those packages primarily add cabin and convenience equipment. Z51, Z07, ZTK, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1 determine the major performance hardware.
- Missing the automatic-transmission change. A 2014 automatic is a 6-speed; 2015–2019 cars use the 8-speed 8L90.
- Using preliminary horsepower numbers. Early press material does not always match final SAE-certified output.
- Comparing a ZR1 with ordinary C7s by average price. The one-year ZR1 belongs in a separate collector/performance category.
- Assuming a low odometer reading means low wear. Track use and repeated hard launches can create significant wear with few miles.
- Taking a KBB figure as a guaranteed selling price. It is a national dealer-purchase benchmark, not a private-party valuation or appraisal.
- Buying a modified car without pricing the return to stock. Tuning, lowered suspension, aftermarket wheels, track tires, and aero can affect reliability, insurance, resale, and inspection results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What years are the C7 Corvette?
The C7 Corvette was sold in the United States for the 2014 through 2019 model years. Stingray was available throughout the generation, Z06 from 2015 through 2019, Grand Sport from 2017 through 2019, and ZR1 only for 2019.
Which C7 Corvette is cheapest?
The standard Stingray is generally the least expensive C7. In the KBB national dealer-purchase snapshot checked August 10, 2026, the lowest listed value is $34,600 for a 2014 Stingray coupe. Actual prices depend on mileage, condition, transmission, options, location, and history.
Is the Stingray Z51 worth it?
For an enthusiast who wants occasional track use or stronger performance hardware, Z51 is often the best-value package. It adds dry-sump oiling, cooling, brakes, suspension, gearing, an electronic limited-slip differential, performance tires, exhaust, and aero. It also costs more to maintain than a standard Stingray.

Is the Grand Sport better than the Z06?
Neither is universally better. The Grand Sport uses the naturally aspirated LT1 and provides wide-body Z06-derived chassis hardware with lower heat and complexity. The Z06 uses the 650-hp supercharged LT4 and is much quicker, but it brings higher consumable and inspection costs. Choose Grand Sport for balance and naturally aspirated response; choose Z06 for maximum acceleration.

The Z06 uses a 650-hp supercharged LT4 and was sold from 2015 through 2019. The one-year 2019 ZR1 uses a 755-hp supercharged LT5, adds unique cooling and aero, and offers the ZTK track package. The ZR1 is a separate collector/performance purchase category.
Which C7 Corvette has the 8-speed automatic?
The 8-speed 8L90 automatic became available for the 2015 model year and was used through 2019. The 2014 Corvette automatic is a 6-speed. Test every 8-speed car for the documented light-throttle shudder condition before purchase.
Which C7 Corvettes have dry-sump oiling?
The Stingray Z51, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1 have dry-sump oiling. A standard Stingray uses a wet sump unless it is equipped with Z51. Verify the RPO code and build sheet rather than relying on a seller’s description.
Does every Stingray make 460 horsepower?
No. Production Stingrays are generally rated at 455 hp and 460 lb-ft, while later examples with available performance exhaust can be rated at 460 hp and 465 lb-ft. The exact output depends on year and equipment.
What do 2LT and 3LT mean on a C7 Corvette?
On the Stingray, 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT identify interior and convenience equipment levels. On the Grand Sport and Z06, 1LZ, 2LZ, and 3LZ serve a similar purpose. These designations do not add engine output or replace performance packages such as Z51 or Z07.
How much does a used C7 Corvette cost in 2026?
The cited August 10, 2026 KBB national dealer-purchase snapshot ranges from $34,600 for a 2014 Stingray coupe to $136,000 for a 2019 ZR1 convertible. Most Stingrays fall in the high-$30,000s to low-$40,000s, Grand Sports in the low-to-high-$50,000s, and Z06s in the mid-$50,000s to low-$70,000s.
Is a 2014 Corvette worth buying?
It can be. A 2014 Stingray provides the C7 design and LT1 performance at the lowest typical price, but it has the older 6-speed automatic if equipped with an automatic transmission. Check recalls, accident history, track wear, oil and coolant leaks, and the condition of the specific car.
Should buyers avoid the C7 8-speed automatic?
Not automatically. The 8L90 is common and can be convenient and quick, but some vehicles have a documented light-throttle shake or shudder condition. Drive the car fully warm between roughly 25 and 80 mph, inspect service records, and obtain dealer diagnosis if symptoms appear.

Z07 is a track-focused package available on the Grand Sport and Z06. Depending on model and configuration, it can include carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and more aggressive carbon-fiber aerodynamic hardware. These parts improve track capability but can be expensive to replace.
Is the 2019 ZR1 a good investment?
It may have strong collector appeal because it is a one-year, 755-hp flagship, but no used-car price or special edition guarantees an investment return. Evaluate originality, documentation, mileage, colors, transmission, aero, brakes, accident history, and long-term ownership costs rather than buying solely for speculation.
The Bottom Line
The best C7 depends on how the car will be used. A manual Stingray Z51 coupe is usually the strongest value for an enthusiast who wants meaningful performance hardware without Z06-level costs. The Grand Sport is the balanced naturally aspirated choice, the Z06 delivers the greatest acceleration per dollar, and the 2019 ZR1 is a specialized 755-hp collector and performance car.
Before buying any C7, verify the factory equipment by VIN, inspect for track and accident damage, test the automatic transmission when fully warm, price the tires and brakes for the exact configuration, and complete a VIN-specific recall search. A clean title and low mileage are useful, but the car’s hardware, maintenance records, modifications, and actual condition matter more than the trim badge.
