Don’t count on J-B Weld as a permanent intake-manifold repair. J-B Weld says PlasticWeld bonds to most plastics, but its product information does not specifically approve it for intake manifolds. Whether it can adhere—and whether a patch could hold—depends on the manifold material, crack location, and the heat and fluids the repair would face. Identify the vehicle and inspect the damage before choosing repair or replacement.
Why J-B Weld’s plastic claims don’t settle the question
J-B Weld describes PlasticWeld as a hand-mixable epoxy putty that bonds to “most major plastic types,” but “most” is not all, and the manufacturer does not name intake manifolds as an approved application. Its product page says the putty does not adhere to polyethylene or polypropylene, among other plastics, and advises testing adhesion first. Check the manifold’s material rather than assuming PlasticWeld will bond: J-B Weld PlasticWeld product details.
Specifications also vary by product format. J-B Weld’s FAQ lists 200°F (93°C) heat resistance for PlasticWeld putty sticks; it describes water, fuel, and chemical resistance as product-dependent. That figure should not be applied to every J-B Weld product or taken as proof that a patch will tolerate conditions at a particular manifold. The manufacturer’s FAQ does not establish intake-manifold performance.
What the product figures do—and don’t—tell you
For its two-ounce PlasticWeld Epoxy Putty, J-B Weld lists a 20–25 minute work life, a 2–3 hour functional cure, and 700 PSI tensile strength. These are manufacturer specifications for the product, not a test of a repair on an intake manifold. They do not show how long a patch will last in your vehicle or whether it will seal the specific crack.

Crack location changes the decision
A crack on an external, noncritical surface is not equivalent to damage at a gasket surface, a mounting point, an internal air passage, or a coolant passage. A patch that appears to cover a crack does not establish that the affected area will seal or function correctly. The vehicle, manifold material, and exact location all matter; there is no universal epoxy recommendation for these different cases.
Repair or replace? Start with identification
Before selecting a repair or ordering a replacement, establish what part is fitted and where it is damaged. A vehicle-specific recommendation requires:

- Manifold material, if known.
- Crack location and approximate dimensions.
- Whether the damage reaches a gasket surface, mounting point, air passage, or coolant passage.
- Any vehicle-specific service guidance and, for replacement, confirmation that the part number fits that engine.
Compare options on verified material compatibility, the crack’s effect on sealing or passages, expected exposure to heat and fluids, and the fitment certainty and cost of the correct replacement. The information available here does not establish those answers for a particular vehicle. Without them, neither a reliable patch recommendation nor a compatible replacement part can be named.

Treat PlasticWeld only as a candidate to investigate—not as a manufacturer-approved intake-manifold fix or a confirmed permanent repair. Its general plastic-bonding claims and published strength figures cannot verify suitability for your manifold. Confirm the material and the product format’s specifications, and don’t infer service life from the stated functional cure or tensile strength.
