A truck crash blocked the right lane of the northbound Mitchell Freeway near Ocean Reef Road on 20 February 2024. The lane was later cleared, but the damaged truck remained in the right emergency lane and traffic was heavy on the approach back to Erindale Road. This is a report of that incident, not a live traffic update.
Where and when did the crash happen?
The crash occurred at about 2pm on Tuesday, 20 February 2024, on the northbound Mitchell Freeway just before Ocean Reef Road near Craigie. The West Australian reported that a truck struck the freeway’s cable barrier.
What was the traffic impact?
The right lane was initially blocked and had been cleared by the time of the report. The damaged truck remained in the right emergency lane, and traffic was heavy on the approach back to Erindale Road. Motorists were advised at the time to take an alternative route; that advice related to the incident period and is not a current route recommendation.
Were there injuries?
The report said there were no injuries. It attributed the crash and injury information to WA Police, and said police were at the scene while St John WA was heading there as a precaution. It did not provide a cause of the crash or further details about the truck or its driver.
