Slate says owners will be able to access free repair information, manuals, diagnostics and tutorials for its upcoming electric pickup—and they will not have to do their own repairs. The company also points owners to independent mechanics and Slate-certified RepairPal shops. But as of October 5, 2026, Slate’s first deliveries were still scheduled for late 2026, so its repairability pitch is a plan, not a record of customer repairs. It does not establish that every job is suitable for a novice, safer or cheaper to do at home.
What Slate means by “fix it yourself”
Slate’s service page describes a DIY support program built around free manuals and repair information, diagnostics, and Slate U how-to and video tutorials. The company says Slate U will cover maintenance as well as personalization. Its FAQ names brakes, tires, cooling fluids, the cabin filter and washer fluid as planned owner-maintenance tasks.
That is a useful starting point, but not a complete repair guide. The information reviewed does not specify which complex jobs are appropriate for inexperienced owners, provide task-by-task safety boundaries, or demonstrate how the instructions work on a delivered truck. The distinction matters especially for an electric vehicle: do not infer that access to diagnostics or a manual makes high-voltage work a suitable home repair.
Why the truck’s modular design matters
Slate describes the truck as a two-door electric pickup designed to be changed with modular kits and accessories, including conversion to an SUV. Buyers can order an SUV configuration or convert after delivery; the company’s FAQ names Squareback, Fastback and Open Air styles. Slate also says the vehicle has more than 100 attachment points.

That emphasis makes owner-installed personalization part of the concept, not just an add-on to the repair pitch. Slate says its DIY wrap packages include pre-cut materials, tools and video instructions, and its personalization page says owners can install accessories themselves or use authorized partners. Those claims support an expectation of guided accessory work; they do not prove that mechanical repairs will be equally simple.
DIY and professional service are both intended options
Slate says owners can take the truck to an independent mechanic or a Slate-certified RepairPal location. The company FAQ describes access to 3,000 certified shops nationwide, while its June 2026 release says more than 100 locations can perform high-voltage EV service. These are Slate’s network figures, not an independent audit or a guarantee that a qualified shop is near every owner. Check local capability before relying on a particular location, especially for high-voltage work.

The available information does not establish which path will cost less, take less time, or produce better outcomes. For a specific repair, compare the work required, your skills, a shop’s confirmed capabilities and the relevant warranty language rather than assuming DIY is automatically the cheaper choice.
Check warranty terms before attempting a repair
Slate’s service page lists a 10-year/110,000-mile battery and powertrain warranty, a four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, and four years/50,000 miles of roadside assistance. These are the company’s published terms; the service page alone does not settle whether a particular repair is covered or what effect a particular owner repair could have. Read the warranty document and its exclusions before starting work or deciding that a repair qualifies.

What is—and is not—known yet
Slate’s FAQ said first deliveries were slated for late 2026, and its June 2026 release said they were expected in Q4 2026. As of October 5, 2026, those were targets, not confirmation of completed deliveries or a customer-service track record. Consequently, the available company material does not establish real-world repair costs, independent repair outcomes, or whether the promised manuals and tutorials make particular jobs straightforward.
Slate’s June 2026 release also described the Blank Slate at $24,950 plus a $1,450 destination charge, with an estimated 205-mile range, towing up to 2,000 pounds and a 1,550-pound payload. Slate identified the specifications as estimates subject to change. Those figures provide context for the planned truck, but they do not prove anything about repair difficulty or cost.
