Aston Martin has not set a firm launch date for its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV). In an interview reported by Autocar on 2 October 2026, CEO Adrian Hallmark said it could arrive in 2033 or 2035—not in 2031. That is reported executive guidance, not a confirmed launch date or a formal product announcement.
How Aston Martin’s first-EV target moved
The company’s public timing has shifted across three milestones. They describe plans at different dates, not one settled launch commitment:
| When | What Aston Martin said | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | Aston Martin’s Racing.Green strategy targeted its first BEV for 2025. Company strategy announcement | An initial target, not the current timing. |
| 2024 annual report, published in 2025 | The company said customer feedback and changing market dynamics led it to prioritise plug-in hybrids, beginning with Valhalla, before applying knowledge and technology across the core range. It described the first BEV as planned for the latter part of the decade. 2024 annual report | A later, PHEV-led phase before the planned BEV. |
| October 2026 | Hallmark told Autocar the first BEV could come in 2033 or 2035. Autocar’s interview report | The latest reported estimate, with no fixed date. |
Why the date is uncertain
In Autocar’s account of the interview, Hallmark said EV demand and legislation were changing quickly, making an absolute launch date imprecise. He said delaying the programme gives Aston Martin time to continue evaluating technology, markets and legislation before committing investment. These are the CEO’s reported comments, not audited company figures or a formal investor forecast.
Hallmark was quoted as saying: “I’m not going to give an absolute date, because it’s imprecise. It could be 2035, it might be 2033, but it’s in that three-year-window. It’s not 2031.” Autocar also quoted him describing the company as “not BEV deniers but BEV delayers”. The quotations are attributed to Hallmark as reported by Autocar; they are not independently verified against a transcript.

What Aston Martin plans before its first BEV
Aston Martin’s 2024 annual report described a PHEV-first approach, starting with Valhalla, and said the company would transfer the resulting knowledge and technology across its core range. A plug-in hybrid can be charged and driven on electric power but also has a combustion engine; it is not a battery-electric vehicle. Valhalla is therefore part of the stated transition strategy, not the first BEV.
The 2025 annual report describes a blended drivetrain approach between 2026 and 2030, including electrically boosted and assisted combustion drivetrains. Separately, Hallmark was reported as saying Aston Martin would remain predominantly combustion-engine based through 2035 and had a roadmap to keep V8 and V12 engines compliant through that period. The latter is his reported statement, not the annual report’s description of the blended approach. The annual report was published on 25 March 2026; its publication notice and a text mirror of the report are available.

What is known about EV technology partners
In June 2023, Aston Martin announced an agreement with Lucid Group for EV technology to support its high-performance electrification strategy. The same announcement said Mercedes-Benz AG would continue providing access to technologies for current and future Aston Martin vehicles, including combustion, hybrid and electric systems. Aston Martin’s announcement of the Lucid agreement establishes those supplier relationships; it does not specify the final engineering, component list or retail details of the first BEV.

There is no announced first-BEV model, confirmed on-sale date or final specification in the cited statements. Treat 2033 or 2035 as a reported possible arrival window, not a promise that customers will be able to order a car in either year. Hallmark was also quoted as saying: “We only need BEVs to be compliant for legislative reasons [in certain markets] just before 2035.” That remark reflects his account of the company’s market and regulatory outlook; it is not a published launch schedule.
