Android Auto 10.7 is a real release, but it dates to October–November 2023. Its documented changes were improved Do Not Disturb functionality, dark mode on the car display that works independently of the phone’s setting, and general bug fixes. In 2026, most drivers should install the newest compatible version offered by Google Play rather than sideload this archived build.

What is Android Auto 10.7?

Android Auto is Google’s phone-powered system for projecting compatible apps and functions onto a supported vehicle display or aftermarket stereo. “10.7” is the Android Auto app/service version, not an Android operating-system version.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

It is also different from Android Automotive OS, which runs natively in some vehicles. Updating Android Auto on a phone does not necessarily update a car’s infotainment firmware. Google treats Android Auto and Android Automotive OS as separate platforms in its Android for Cars platform documentation.

When Android Auto 10.7 came out

The archived Android Auto 10.7.6342 release family includes builds listed on October 25, November 3 and November 6, 2023. The variants listed include armeabi-v7a and arm64-v8a packages, with Android 8.0 or later shown as the minimum for those APKs. Those are archived package details, not a guarantee that every phone, account and vehicle combination will work with the build today. See the Android Auto 10.7.6342 listing for the variants and dates.

What changed in Android Auto 10.7?

Improved Do Not Disturb

The published changelog says Do Not Disturb functionality was improved, but it does not give a feature-by-feature explanation. It does not establish a particular new toggle, notification rule or automation.

Car-display dark mode independent of the phone

The changelog says dark mode on the Android Auto car interface became independent of the phone’s dark-mode setting. In practical terms, the phone and projected interface need not use the same mode. The exact behavior can still depend on the vehicle’s head unit, Android Auto settings, time-of-day controls and manufacturer implementation; this change does not necessarily affect the car’s native menus.

Bug fixes and other improvements

The remaining release note is broad. It does not identify individual bugs, so it cannot support a promise of a particular connection fix or performance improvement. Android Auto also relies on other parts of the system, including the phone’s operating system, Google apps and Play services, vehicle firmware, and the cable or wireless connection.

Should you install Android Auto 10.7 in 2026?

Usually not. As of August 18, 2026, APKMirror’s release index lists Android Auto versions in the 17.5.x range, including 17.5.6632. That third-party index is not Google Play, but it shows how far the release line has moved beyond 10.7. For normal use, install the newest compatible version Google Play offers. Check the Android Auto release index for its dated archive listings.

An archived 10.7 build may make sense for controlled testing, investigating a regression, following a support instruction that specifies it, or preserving a known-working configuration on a device that cannot use newer releases. It is not a route to newer Maps features, Gemini or wireless capability. Google describes the Gemini transition in Android Auto as a server-side rollout on its Android Auto page; installing an old APK is not a reliable way to obtain it.

How to update Android Auto through Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone and search for Android Auto.
  2. Open the listing published by Google LLC.
  3. Tap Update if that option appears. If it says Open, Play Store may already consider your installed version current for that device or account.
  4. If the phone continues reporting an old version, restart it, then connect to the vehicle using your normal wired or wireless setup.

Google directs users to Google Play for Android Auto. Phones running Android 10 or later may not show a conventional standalone Android Auto app because the functionality can be integrated into the system. Not seeing an app icon alone does not mean the feature is missing.

How to check the installed version

Menu wording varies by phone maker and Android edition. Try one of these typical paths:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Settings → Apps → See all apps → Android Auto → App details
  • Settings → Apps → Android Auto → App version
  • Search Settings for “Android Auto,” or check the app’s Google Play listing and app-details screen.

On some phones, Android Auto settings are under Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Android Auto. If it is not listed among ordinary apps, check system apps or open its Play Store listing.

How to install Android Auto 10.7 manually

Sideloading is an advanced fallback, not the recommended update route. APKMirror is a third-party archive rather than Google’s official distribution channel. Its 10.7 listing says the files are signed by Google LLC and manually reviewed by APKMirror, but using an archive still means choosing a package outside the normal Play Store update flow. Do not use modded, repacked or otherwise unofficial packages.

  1. Confirm your Android version and phone architecture, and record the installed Android Auto version. Back up important data before attempting a downgrade.
  2. Choose the exact 10.7 APK variant for the device from the 10.7.6342 listing. The listed variants include armeabi-v7a and arm64-v8a; do not assume one fits every phone.
  3. Download the APK. If Android prompts you to allow installs from that browser or file manager, grant permission only to the app you are using for this installation.
  4. Open the downloaded package and follow Android’s installation prompts. Some package formats may require a compatible installer rather than a standard tap-to-install flow.
  5. Restart the phone, reconnect to the car, and test navigation, calls, messaging, audio and voice commands.
  6. Unless you have a specific reason to stay on 10.7, restore normal Play Store updates so the phone can receive a newer compatible release.

An older APK may be rejected if its signature does not match the installed package. Downgrading can require removing the current package or its updates, potentially resetting settings and pairings. Android may also block an old package, Play Protect or another security policy may intervene, and the wrong architecture can prevent installation. Even if the package installs, a 2023 build may not work correctly with a 2026 phone, Google app, Play services version or vehicle firmware.

Spedal 2026 2-in-1 Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Adapter | Ultra Mini Dongle, Converts Wired to Wireless, WiFi 6 & Bluetooth 5.4, Plug & Play, Low Latency, Auto Reconnect
  • Keep Your Phone in Your Pocket: Turn factory wired CarPlay or Android Auto into a wireless setup and keep using your car’s original screen. This 2-in-1 wireless adapter is ideal for households with both iPhone and Android phones sharing a vehicle. Connects to one phone at a time; disconnect the current phone before connecting another.
  • Plug and Play for Everyday Drives: Just plug the adapter into your car’s USB data port and pair your phone via Bluetooth. After the initial setup, it reconnects automatically on later drives, so you can skip the usual plug-and-unplug routine—whether it’s your morning commute or a quick errand. Keep Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.
  • Less Clutter Around the Console: A compact wireless adapter that helps reduce phone cable clutter running across your console every time you drive. The mini dongle takes up little space and includes two extension cables for USB-A and USB-C data ports, making the adapter easier to position around recessed or hard-to-reach ports.
  • Your Usual Apps, Now Wireless: Follow your route, put on a playlist, take a call, or use voice commands through CarPlay or Android Auto. Bluetooth 5.4 handles pairing, while Wi-Fi 6 carries the wireless connection. Works with your car’s supported steering wheel, knob, and touchscreen controls, with fewer phone cables to manage.
  • Check the Fit Before You Buy: Your car needs factory wired CarPlay for a compatible iPhone (iOS 10 or later), or factory wired Android Auto for a compatible Android phone running Android 11 or later. Connect your phone with a USB data cable first to check that the matching system works. Not for BMW, Tesla, or aftermarket head units. Video playback, screen mirroring are not supported.

Phone, vehicle and connection requirements

Phone and connection type

Google’s current requirements distinguish connection modes: Android 9 or later is listed for most wired connections, while Android 11 or later is listed for wireless Android Auto and certain newer vehicles. These current-use requirements are different from the Android 8.0+ minimum shown for the archived 10.7 APK variants. An APK’s install minimum does not establish full service compatibility. Check Google’s current Android Auto requirements for your setup.

Vehicle or aftermarket stereo

The car or receiver must support Android Auto; Google says the system works with more than 500 vehicle models and provides a compatibility list. Check the specific model year and trim, whether the infotainment system has Android Auto enabled, which connection modes it supports, whether a firmware update is required, and which USB port carries data.

Wired and wireless setup

  • Wired: Use a short, good-quality data cable, not a charge-only cable. Try the designated USB port and avoid loose adapters or hubs.
  • Wireless: Both phone and vehicle must support wireless Android Auto. Initial setup commonly uses Bluetooth for pairing and Wi-Fi for the Android Auto connection; follow the vehicle manual if its sequence differs.

Google’s Android Auto setup guide covers compatibility and connection troubleshooting.

Troubleshoot Android Auto after an update

  1. Restart the phone and the vehicle’s infotainment system.
  2. Confirm Android Auto is enabled in the vehicle settings and that the car supports the connection mode you are trying to use.
  3. For a wired connection, try a known-good USB data cable and the vehicle’s other supported USB port. A phone that charges without starting Android Auto may be connected through a charge-only or faulty cable, or a port without data support.
  4. For wireless setup, confirm the car supports wireless Android Auto and the phone meets Google’s current wireless requirements. If pairing fails, remove the car from the phone’s Bluetooth settings and the phone from the vehicle, then pair again.
  5. Check that Google Maps, the Google app, Google Play services and Android System WebView are current.
  6. Clear Android Auto’s cache using the typical path Settings → Apps → Android Auto → Storage & cache → Clear cache. Menu labels may differ.
  7. If needed, clear Android Auto storage or reset its settings, understanding that this may remove preferences and pairings.
  8. If the problem began immediately after a manual downgrade, return to the latest compatible Google Play release.
  9. Ask the vehicle manufacturer about head-unit firmware if the phone-side checks do not resolve the problem.

If Android Auto is missing from the app drawer on Android 10 or later, that can be normal. If the Play Store shows no Update button, it may consider the installed release current for that device or account. If a sideloaded APK will not install, likely causes include a wrong variant, signature mismatch, Android compatibility, or a blocked downgrade. A voice or display feature can also depend on other Google components, the vehicle or a staged server-side rollout, rather than the Android Auto APK alone. Google’s official setup and troubleshooting guidance is the next step for persistent connection failures.
