Amazon Autos did start selling Hyundai vehicles in the United States, but Amazon is not replacing Hyundai dealers or taking over every part of a car purchase. The service is better understood as a digital storefront and checkout workflow layered onto participating local dealers: Amazon helps shoppers find a vehicle, review payment and financing choices, and complete much of the paperwork online; the dealer supplies the vehicle and remains responsible for the dealership side of the transaction and fulfillment.

That distinction matters. Buying a Hyundai through Amazon Autos is not the same as ordering an ordinary product from Amazon with universal inventory, nationwide availability, or a guaranteed one-click delivery. Your location, the participating dealer, the specific vehicle, lender eligibility, and local requirements still determine what you can actually complete online.
What happened to Amazon’s Hyundai car program?
Amazon and Hyundai announced their strategic partnership on November 16, 2023. The original plan called for Amazon to begin online U.S. vehicle sales with Hyundai in 2024. Amazon Autos launched in December 2024, with Hyundai as its first—and initially only—automotive brand.

At launch, shoppers in 48 U.S. cities could search participating Hyundai dealer inventory by details such as model, trim, color, features, and price-related criteria. The service supported online payment or financing steps, digital paperwork, and arrangements for dealer pickup or delivery where available.
The announcement was part of a wider Amazon-Hyundai relationship. Hyundai also selected Amazon Web Services as its preferred cloud provider for digital transformation involving areas such as manufacturing, supply chain, customer engagement, connected vehicles, analytics, and other cloud services. The companies separately announced plans to bring Alexa Built-in to next-generation Hyundai vehicles beginning in 2025, including functions involving music, podcasts, reminders, calendars, smart-home controls, traffic, weather, media, and navigation.
Those technology agreements do not mean Amazon manufactures Hyundai vehicles, owns the Hyundai dealer network, or directly controls the cars listed on Amazon Autos.

The process is dealer-mediated, even though much of the customer experience takes place on Amazon. A typical purchase follows this sequence:
- Check whether your market is eligible. Amazon Autos shows inventory available near the shopper’s location. The service requires both geographic availability and participation by a local Hyundai dealer.
- Search available vehicles. You can narrow the results by model, trim, color, features, and other listing details. The results represent local dealer inventory, not every Hyundai vehicle manufactured or every vehicle available nationally.
- Review the vehicle and purchase terms. The listing and checkout flow can show pricing information, payment options, and, for eligible shoppers and vehicles, financing choices.
- Submit financing information if necessary. Buyers can apply for financing through participating lenders and review approved offers when they qualify. Approval, rates, terms, and lender availability are not guaranteed.
- Complete digital paperwork. Amazon’s workflow is designed to move much of the documentation and checkout process online, but local legal or dealership requirements can still create steps that must be completed with the dealer.
- Arrange fulfillment with the dealer. The participating dealer remains responsible for the vehicle and final handoff. Depending on the market and listing, you may schedule pickup or delivery.
For shoppers who want to research the central product in this story, it is possible to shop Hyundai cars on Amazon Autos. That should be treated as an inventory search and buying workflow, not as a promise that every Hyundai model, trim, color, feature package, or financing option is available in every city.

The practical benefit is reduced friction at the beginning of the process. A buyer can compare nearby inventory and begin financing or documentation before visiting the dealership. The tradeoff is that Amazon cannot make local inventory, lender rules, vehicle availability, or state compliance requirements identical across the country.

Where is Amazon Autos available?
The initial rollout covered 48 U.S. cities. Amazon later said its new-vehicle offering had dealers participating in more than 130 U.S. cities. That is a meaningful expansion, but a city count is not the same as universal availability.

A listing may still depend on:
- whether a Hyundai dealer in that market participates;
- which vehicles that dealer has in stock;
- whether the desired trim, color, and options are available;
- whether the buyer qualifies for a particular financing offer;
- whether delivery is offered or pickup is required; and
- state-specific paperwork, taxes, registration, and other compliance steps.
The correct way to interpret the coverage is market by market. Being in a city where Amazon Autos operates does not guarantee that every Hyundai vehicle can be purchased through the service or that the transaction can be completed without a dealer interaction.
Amazon added used and certified pre-owned vehicles
Amazon Autos expanded beyond new vehicles in August 2025 by adding used and certified pre-owned inventory. The rollout began in Los Angeles and was scheduled to expand to additional cities. Used and CPO listings appeared alongside new vehicles, with filters to distinguish the inventory types.
Amazon described the following features for the announced used and CPO program:
- a three-day/300-mile return policy;
- at least a 30-day/1,000-mile limited warranty on all vehicles in the announced program;
- transparent pricing with no hidden fees, according to Amazon’s description;
- vehicle-history reports for listings;
- access to test drives through participating dealerships; and
- a 75-mile sales-radius limit for available listings.
These are important differences from a conventional search-only marketplace, but they must be read as terms of Amazon’s announced used and CPO program. They should not automatically be applied to every new-car listing, every dealer, or every future market. Before committing to a used vehicle, buyers should check the individual listing’s return, warranty, mileage, inspection, and delivery terms. A useful step is to check a vehicle history report and compare it with the listing details and any inspection information supplied by the dealer.

Which other car brands are coming to Amazon Autos?
The original November 2023 partnership announcement said Amazon expected to expand the selection and add more brands. It did not provide a complete list of future automakers. Therefore, the phrase “more brands next year” should be treated as a forward-looking plan rather than proof that a particular brand was already available nationwide.

A report published in April 2026 said Amazon Autos had secured Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Chevrolet, and Jeep for onboarding. The report described the platform as a dealer-inventory marketplace in which shoppers could browse local vehicles and complete financing paperwork. It also noted continuing logistical, financing, compliance, and delivery challenges.
That report supports saying that additional brands were reported to be joining or being onboarded. It does not establish that all five brands were fully live nationwide, that every model was purchasable, or that all dealers for those brands had joined the platform. Brand availability should be verified in the Amazon Autos market search rather than inferred from an announcement or trade-reporting headline.
Amazon Autos financing: Chase, Santander, and Wells Fargo
In October 2025, Amazon announced three additional financing sources for Amazon Autos: Chase, Santander, and Wells Fargo. For eligible purchases, shoppers could submit a credit application and compare approved offers using details such as APR, loan term, monthly payment, and total interest. Amazon said customers could complete paperwork online and schedule pickup from the participating dealer.

Financing comparison is part of the digital buying workflow, allowing a shopper to evaluate more than the monthly payment alone. Total interest and loan term can materially change the cost of a vehicle, so buyers should compare the full offer and read the contract before accepting it.
There are several limits to keep in mind:
- Not every lender is available for every buyer, vehicle, dealer, or city.
- Approval and the terms shown depend on the lender’s underwriting decision.
- The presence of Chase, Santander, or Wells Fargo does not make any one lender the best choice for every shopper.
- An online application does not eliminate the need to review final financing documents.
- Amazon Autos financing information is not a guarantee of approval or personal financial advice.
Shoppers who want to review the financing portion of the process can compare Amazon Autos financing offers when eligible offers appear, then compare APR, total interest, term length, payment, fees, and any conditions—not just the advertised monthly amount.
What shoppers should check before completing an online purchase
Amazon’s interface may make the process feel more standardized than a traditional dealership visit, but the underlying transaction still has vehicle-specific and market-specific conditions. Use this checklist before submitting final paperwork:

- Confirm the exact vehicle. Check the VIN or other identifying information, trim, drivetrain, color, options, mileage if used, and whether the listing is new, used, or certified pre-owned.
- Read the total purchase figure. Look beyond the vehicle price and monthly payment. Review taxes, registration, documentation charges, delivery charges, optional products, and other applicable amounts.
- Verify the dealer. Note which participating dealer is supplying the car, where pickup occurs, and how to contact the dealer if the listing changes.
- Review financing separately from the vehicle. Compare APR, term, total interest, down payment, monthly payment, and lender conditions. Do not assume the lowest monthly payment is the cheapest offer.
- Check the return and warranty terms. The used/CPO protections announced by Amazon are not automatically terms for all new vehicles. Confirm the precise policy attached to the listing.
- Ask about delivery or pickup. Confirm the timing, location, delivery radius, fees, required identification, and any steps that must happen in person.
- Arrange a test drive when appropriate. Used and CPO shoppers may be able to arrange one through a participating dealer, but availability and scheduling are dealer-dependent.
- Keep copies of the documents. Save the listing, financing offer, purchase agreement, warranty information, return policy, and communications with the dealer.
Is this the end of the traditional car dealership?
No. Amazon Autos gives dealers another digital distribution channel and reduces some of the time-consuming work involved in finding a vehicle and preparing paperwork. It does not remove the local dealer from the transaction.

The service digitizes the front end of car buying while preserving the dealer-mediated structure behind it.
That structure also explains why Amazon Autos may feel different from buying other products on Amazon. A vehicle is a regulated, high-value transaction with local inventory, credit decisions, title and registration requirements, and physical fulfillment. A familiar Amazon interface can simplify the workflow, but it cannot make those obligations disappear.
What the Hyundai partnership means beyond car sales
The AWS and Alexa announcements show that Amazon’s relationship with Hyundai was broader than vehicle retail. AWS was selected as Hyundai’s preferred cloud provider, while Alexa Built-in was planned for next-generation Hyundai vehicles. These initiatives connect Amazon’s cloud and voice-assistant businesses with Hyundai’s digital and connected-car plans.
They should nevertheless be kept separate from Amazon Autos. A Hyundai vehicle being listed through Amazon Autos does not mean Amazon built the vehicle, operates the dealership, or provides every connected-car feature. Those are separate parts of the broader partnership.
Bottom line for buyers
Amazon Autos began with Hyundai in December 2024 and gave U.S. shoppers a way to search participating local inventory, review financing or payment options, complete much of the paperwork online, and arrange dealer pickup or delivery. The service later expanded into used and certified pre-owned vehicles and added financing sources including Chase, Santander, and Wells Fargo.

The most accurate description is not “Amazon replaced the car dealer.” It is “Amazon digitized the front end of a dealer-mediated vehicle purchase.” Availability remains local, additional-brand rollout requires market-level verification, and the exact protections and financing terms depend on the vehicle, dealer, lender, and listing.
