An attendee who posted the clip said the car had been summoned. The available reporting does not establish a formal accident finding or the aircraft’s final damage cost.
What the video and attendee post say
The clip circulated online after the incident at Felts Field. Reddit user smiteme, who said they attended the Cirrus event, wrote: “I was at a Cirrus event and someone tried to summon their Tesla past a $3,500,000 Vision jet….” That is an attendee’s description, not an official account of the collision or a verified valuation of the aircraft.
Was the jet worth $3.5 million?
The $3.5 million figure comes from the attendee’s post. Euronews said it could not confirm the hit aircraft’s list price and reported that a basic Cirrus Vision Jet started at around $2 million at the time. Neither figure establishes the aircraft’s sale price, replacement cost, or the cost of repairing damage from this incident.
What Smart Summon does—and its stated limits
The reported feature was Tesla Smart Summon, which allows a nearby vehicle to move toward a location using the owner’s phone. It is a remote-supervision feature, not proof that the vehicle was operating as a fully self-driving car. Euronews quoted the Model Y manual as limiting Smart Summon’s intended use to parking lots and driveways on private property, recommending familiar and predictable areas, and instructing users to maintain a clear line of sight while closely monitoring the car and its surroundings. That wording is attributed to the reporting; the exact manual version for the Model Y involved was not established.

What NHTSA later found about Summon incidents
In a separate matter, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened preliminary evaluation PE24033 on January 6, 2025, after reports of low-speed impacts during Actually Smart Summon sessions. NHTSA’s summary said incidents commonly involved limited awareness of surroundings, including incomplete 360-degree views in the app, and obstacles such as gates, nearby vehicles, and short bollards. It also described camera-blockage incidents and software updates issued in January, February, and November 2025.
NHTSA closed the evaluation on April 3, 2026. Its summary says that a fraction of 1% of millions of Summon sessions resulted in an incident, an agency-level figure that does not describe the rate for this aircraft collision. The agency cautioned: “The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding that a safety-related defect does not exist.” This later evaluation was not a determination about the 2022 Felts Field event.

What remains unknown about the aircraft collision
The available reporting does not establish a final repair estimate or damage inspection, how long the aircraft was out of service, whether insurance paid a claim, whether a lawsuit followed, or a formal finding assigning responsibility. It also does not provide independently verified vehicle telemetry or a complete account of what the operator could see. Those outcomes cannot be inferred from the video or the attendee’s price estimate.
