Verdict: The 70mai A810 is a strong-value front-facing 4K dash cam. Its Sony STARVIS 2 sensor produces unusually detailed daytime and nighttime footage for the price, while GPS, a screen, Wi-Fi and a useful app make everyday evidence handling easy. The compromises are significant: the optional rear camera records only 1080p, 4K is limited to 25 frames per second in tested configurations, parking surveillance needs a separate hardwire kit and is generally non-buffered, and long-term heat durability is not firmly established.
Buy it when front-camera detail and app convenience matter most. Choose another system if buffered parking capture, a higher-resolution rear view, supercapacitor-based heat resilience or cabin coverage is your priority.

Installation and first setup
- Mount the front unit high and close to the windshield center without blocking the driver’s view. Clean the glass before applying the adhesive mount.
- Route the rear cable under the headliner and trim, keeping it clear of airbags, sharp edges and hatch hinges. Place the rear camera where tint, defroster lines, wiper sweep and hatch movement do not obstruct the image.
- Insert a compatible microSD card before recording. Continuous loop writing is demanding; a high-endurance U3 card is a safer choice than a generic “fast” card.
- Connect power, allow initialization, set the date and confirm that GPS obtains a lock.
- Choose front resolution, rear recording, loop duration, G-sensor sensitivity, audio and screen behavior. Format the card using the camera or the documented app procedure.
- Drive briefly and check front, rear, GPS and audio files. Record the firmware version before changing settings.
- For parking surveillance, install the correct UP03 kit, select a voltage cut-off and test that parking mode starts when ignition power is removed and normal loop recording resumes after startup.
- Apply firmware updates only through 70mai’s official app or download process.
If the app will not connect, close it, disable a phone’s automatic cellular-network switching or VPN, reconnect to the camera’s Wi-Fi and restart the camera. If recording stops, back up clips, format the card in-camera and retest with a known-compatible high-endurance card. Repeated reboots call for checking power and cable seating before blaming firmware. A parking mode that never activates usually indicates a hardwire, ignition-sense, voltage-setting or vehicle-compatibility problem.

The A810’s principal advantage is front detail. The 3840×2160 mode, F1.8 lens and IMX678 sensor produce bright, well-balanced footage in varied lighting, according to independent testing by TechRadar and Digital Camera World. Signs, lane markings and nearby plates are easier to inspect than in ordinary 1080p footage.
Resolution is not the same as guaranteed plate readability. Distance, vehicle speed, exposure, rain, glare, dirty glass and motion blur can erase characters even from a technically sharp frame. Treat evidence in three separate categories:

The car security camera with G-sensor automatically locks important clips, ensuring crucial evidence is safely preserved even while your vehicle is parked.(*Hardwire kit needed.)
- Readable: a plate or sign can actually be identified.
- Sharp: a paused frame looks detailed, even if characters cannot be read.
- Useful: the image is accompanied by continuous recording and trustworthy time and location data.
Independent reviews report that 4K HDR is limited to 25 fps in tested configurations. The specification lists 60, 30 and 25 fps options, but 1080p is the mode associated with higher frame rates, including 60 fps. Lower-resolution video is smoother for fast motion; it does not preserve the same spatial detail. Do not advertise the A810 as a universal 4K/60 camera. Connecting the rear unit may also change available resolution, frame-rate and HDR combinations, so document the exact options shown by your firmware.
Daylight, contrast and HDR
In daylight, the front camera handles normal exposure transitions well. HDR can help balance a bright sky against darker road areas and retain more context around headlights or signs. It cannot restore detail clipped by intense glare, and it cannot eliminate blur from a moving plate. Test near, medium and highway-distance plates, vehicles crossing the frame, tunnel entrances and exits, direct sun, wet roads and dashboard reflections.

Night footage remains usable under street lighting, but headlights, rain and windshield reflections are still limiting factors. 70mai’s “Night Owl Vision” is a product name for its processing approach, not an independently certified performance standard. Compare an unlit road, an urban road, oncoming headlights and a wet windshield. A CPL filter can reduce daytime reflections; it also cuts light and may make nighttime footage worse, so remove it when darkness is the problem.
The rear camera is useful, but not equivalent
The add-on rear camera records 1080p HDR. It can document a rear-end collision, a hit-and-run or following-distance dispute, but it resolves distant plates and fine detail less clearly than the front unit. Show synchronized front and rear frames from the same event rather than treating “dual-channel” as two equivalent cameras.
Published field-of-view figures differ by package: 70mai’s system specification states 150 degrees, while PCWorld describes a 130-degree rear camera. Attribute the number to the exact rear model supplied with your kit instead of presenting one universal value. Rear usefulness also depends on clean glass, wiper coverage, tint, defroster lines and unobstructed cable routing.

Parking surveillance: the accessory and the caveat
According to 70mai, every parking-surveillance function requires the separately sold UP03 hardwire kit. The camera offers collision detection, AI motion detection and time-lapse options, with front-and-rear recording in compatible configurations. A store description says a G-sensor event can create a 30-second parking clip; verify that behavior on your firmware.

Independent coverage classifies the A810’s parking behavior as generally non-buffered. That means a trigger may start a clip at the event rather than preserving the seconds immediately before it. “Collision,” “AI motion,” “time-lapse,” “24-hour surveillance” and “remote monitoring” are different functions, not interchangeable labels.
Before relying on parking mode, verify:
- whether impact clips contain any pre-event video;
- triggered-clip length and sensitivity controls;
- whether AI motion records continuously or only after detection;
- whether time-lapse covers both cameras;
- available low-voltage cut-off settings and vehicle run time;
- normal loop recording after ignition restart; and
- behavior when hardwire power is interrupted.
The 500mAh battery cannot power all-day surveillance. Parking recording draws from the vehicle through the hardwire kit, making voltage protection essential.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.GPS, ADAS and what “safety” does not mean
Built-in GPS can record time, speed, coordinates and route information. Check time-to-first-fix, behavior in tunnels and urban canyons, whether speed is burned into video or stored only as metadata, and whether exported clips retain location data. GPS can support an account of where and when an event occurred; it does not independently prove fault or speed accuracy. Exported files may reveal home addresses and habitual routes.
The A810 advertises pedestrian/cyclist, lane-departure, front-collision and moving-traffic alerts. These are supplemental camera warnings, not autonomous emergency braking, steering assistance or a certified collision-avoidance system. Calibration, central mounting and vehicle geometry matter. Test for false alerts caused by shadows, road seams, parked cars and dense traffic, especially at night and in rain. Digital Camera World also noted imperfect English translation in the ADAS interface, so quote the exact wording displayed by your unit rather than assuming menu labels from an older review.

App, Wi-Fi and file handling
The 70mai app connects to the camera’s Wi-Fi network for live view, photos, downloads and settings such as resolution, loop duration and G-sensor sensitivity. A complete workflow is:
- Install the current 70mai app.
- Turn on the camera and join its Wi-Fi network.
- Add the camera, then open live view.
- Locate a normal loop file and an emergency or parking file.
- Download a clip and confirm its save location on iOS or Android.
- Share the original file where possible, avoiding unnecessary recompression.
- Disconnect from camera Wi-Fi and confirm that cellular data, CarPlay or Android Auto resumes.
One review observed that the camera display turns off while connected to the app and that setup requested personal information. Large 4K files can make wireless transfers slow; removing the card and copying directly with a reader is a dependable fallback. Preserve original files before editing or sharing.
Optional 4G connectivity
Remote alerts, surveillance and location features require the separate UP04 4G hardwire kit, compatible firmware and availability in a supported country. 70mai states that location updates can occur every 15 seconds and that location use is limited to 15 activations per month. Confirm U.S. sale status, carrier compatibility, SIM or subscription requirements, data costs, coverage, live-view behavior and whether those limits still apply to your region and firmware. 4G is not a standard A810 feature and cannot locate a camera that is offline.
Heat and long-term ownership
70mai rates the A810 for −10°C to 60°C operation, but a car interior behind a windshield can become much hotter than ambient air. The rating is not independent proof of years of direct-sun durability. Pro Tool Reviews reported that an installed A810 became unusable in August 2025, less than two years after installation, with error messages and permanently distorted video. The reviewer suggested Florida summer heat as one possible factor but did not establish a definitive cause. This is one failure report, not a failure-rate statistic, yet it is relevant for hot-climate buyers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRecord installation date, climate, shade exposure, firmware, card brand and endurance rating, and whether distortion occurs during recording, playback or startup. If footage becomes distorted, stop relying on the camera, preserve sample files, photograph the installation and contact 70mai or the seller.
Who should buy the A810?
| Buyer priority | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Maximum front detail for modest cost | Good fit. The 4K IMX678 front camera is the standout feature. |
| Simple GPS and phone workflow | Good fit. The screen, GPS and app are convenient. |
| Reliable 24-hour parking evidence | Look elsewhere or budget for UP03. Parking needs hardwiring and is generally non-buffered. |
| High-quality rear coverage | Consider alternatives. The companion camera is 1080p. |
| Very hot climate | Proceed cautiously. Use shade and realistic expectations about long-term durability. |
| Rideshare or cabin recording | Poorer fit. The A810 is not a three-channel cabin system. |
| Remote monitoring | Conditional. UP04, firmware, network and regional limits apply. |
For buffered parking, stronger rear imaging and a supercapacitor-oriented design, independent comparison coverage places the VIOFO A229 Pro ahead of the A810, while positioning the A810 as the lower-cost, app-first choice: Auto Roamer comparison. Garmin connected cameras are another option for buyers prioritizing a mature remote ecosystem, as noted by PCWorld. Newer 70mai models such as the A810S advertise different remote and motion features; do not substitute them for the original A810 without an explicit model comparison.
