The 2026 Audi A6 allroad is a raised, widened A6 Avant with standard adaptive air suspension and quattro in its European launch specification. Auto Express reviewer Dave Humphreys awarded it four stars, praising the V6 diesel’s effortless delivery and the car’s unexpectedly engaging road manners. That is one road-test verdict, not a consensus: whether the allroad makes sense for you depends on its price and powertrain availability in your market, and on whether you want a wagon’s cargo layout with extra rough-road clearance rather than an SUV.
What is new about the 2026 A6 allroad?
Audi calls this the fifth-generation A6 allroad. It is based on the A6 Avant but has distinctive allroad styling, a higher normal ride height and a wider body. Audi measures it as 111 mm wider than the A6 Avant and 84 mm wider than the previous allroad; its normal ride height is 34 mm higher than the Avant and 16 mm higher than the previous generation. Those comparisons use different baselines, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable.
The additional width and raised stance give the estate a more substantial look, but the width is also worth considering if you regularly park in tight garages or narrow streets. Auto Express’s review notes extensive gloss-black exterior trim and criticizes it as a questionable choice for a car likely to encounter rough routes, arguing that conventional black or grey plastic might wear better. That is the reviewer’s subjective design criticism, not a durability finding.
How does it drive?
V6 diesel road-test impressions
Auto Express tested the V6 TDI. Humphreys says the engine pulls effortlessly and suits the car’s character. In ordinary coasting, the mild-hybrid system can shut the engine off and restart smoothly; the review reports a harsher restart if the driver suddenly accelerates while coasting. The reviewer’s broader impression is of a car that remains comfortable on longer journeys and composed on winding roads, with some body movement rather than a completely flat, tightly controlled ride. He also describes the steering and chassis as making the car more engaging than expected.

Auto Express reports 0–62 mph in 5.4 seconds for the diesel and says the plug-in hybrid is only a tenth slower in its acceleration comparison, despite the diesel’s higher output. These are review-reported figures; Audi’s European specifications give the diesel’s 0–100 km/h time as 5.4 seconds. The two speed units are close but not identical.
Audi’s European launch powertrains
Audi’s European launch specification includes two electrified quattro powertrains. The diesel uses a 3.0-litre V6 TDI with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system (MHEV plus). The plug-in hybrid, called the e-hybrid, is the first PHEV offered in the allroad line. Specifications below are Audi’s stated figures for that European launch lineup; they do not establish the engines offered in every country.

The PHEV’s 95 km is a combined WLTP test-cycle figure, not a promise of that distance in everyday driving. The review says the PHEV was not then available in the UK, so UK buyers should check current local availability rather than assume the European lineup applies.
Does the allroad have useful rough-road ability?
The standard adaptive air suspension in Audi’s European launch material is designed to adjust ride height and driving character. Audi gives it a 55 mm adjustment range. In Offroad and Offroad+ modes, ground clearance rises 15 mm from normal height; a separate lift function can add another 20 mm at speeds up to 35 km/h. Dynamic mode lowers the car by 20 mm, and at 120 km/h or above it automatically lowers from normal ride height. Audi says Offroad+ also changes traction-control behavior for gravel, sand or snow.

That equipment makes the allroad a raised estate with selectable rough-road settings, not an unrestricted off-roader. Audi USA cautions drivers to use permitted roads and paths. The suspension hardware is a practical distinction from an ordinary estate, but the available material does not establish a controlled comparison with an SUV such as the Q7.
Rear-wheel steering
Audi says rear-wheel steering is standard on the European plug-in hybrid and optional on the TDI. At low speeds, the rear wheels can turn up to five degrees opposite the front wheels; at higher speeds, they can turn up to two degrees in the same direction. Auto Express says the system helps the car pivot in tighter corners and link bends more readily. Check local specifications before assuming it is standard on a particular car.

How practical is it compared with an A6 Avant?
The allroad keeps the estate format while adding ground clearance, roof rails and a more rugged exterior treatment. Audi’s European material says the rear seats are adjustable and describes an optional roof basket for luggage or sports equipment. The 34 mm normal ride-height difference from the Avant is useful context, but the sources do not provide a controlled comparison of the two cars’ cargo capacity or load space.
For the US-market 2026 model, Audi lists 30.0 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats, 40/20/40 folding seatbacks and a hands-free tailgate. Those are US-market page details; equipment and cargo measurements should be checked against the local specification where the car will be purchased. Audi’s European material lists an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit and 14.5-inch central MMI display, with a 10.9-inch passenger display available as an option.

Roof rails and the optional basket make roof storage a plausible use, but no particular crossbar or basket fitment is established here. Before buying roof equipment, confirm compatibility with the exact model year and rail type, and check Audi’s local accessory guidance and loading limits.
How much does the 2026 A6 allroad cost, and where is it available?
Price and powertrain availability are market-specific. Audi’s US page, Audi’s European pricing announcement and Auto Express’s UK availability note describe separate markets; the prices below are not direct like-for-like comparisons because tax, equipment and market specifications may differ.

Is it a worthwhile alternative to an SUV?
The allroad’s case is clearest for a driver who wants estate-style loading and roof-carrying options, but values extra ride height, adaptive suspension and rough-road settings. Its appeal is less certain if the extra width is inconvenient, if local availability is limited, or if you need a vehicle selected specifically for off-road use. Against the regular A6 Avant, the confirmed distinction is its 34 mm higher normal ride height and wider body; the supplied specifications do not establish a broader performance or cargo-space winner. There is no controlled head-to-head result here that ranks it against the Q7.
Auto Express’s four-star review supports the view that this is more than a cosmetic estate: Humphreys praises the V6’s fit, the chassis and the car’s visual impact, while also pointing to the gloss-black trim and mild-hybrid restart behavior as drawbacks. Treat “Audi back to its best” as that publication’s opinion-led headline framing, not an objective conclusion about the brand or a long-term reliability judgment.
