It is quick and easy in city traffic, more composed than a conventional small scooter on broken pavement and gravel, and practical enough for daily commuting. It is not a replacement for a 300cc-or-larger motorcycle on sustained high-speed freeways, nor is it a serious technical off-road machine.
For the U.S. market, the 2024 ADV160 was the first year of the ADV160 name, replacing the ADV150. Its original base MSRP was $4,499 before destination, tax, title, registration, dealer fees, and accessories. Because 2024 is now a past model year, that figure is historical—not a guarantee of what a dealer or private seller should charge today. Anyone shopping for a used example should also verify the VIN for recall completion, particularly Honda campaign KR9/NHTSA recall 25V-195.
What changed for 2024?
The 2024 ADV160 was a substantive update to the U.S.-market ADV150, not simply a new paint option. Honda increased displacement, introduced its newer four-valve eSP+ engine, revised the chassis, increased storage, and added or retained equipment that made the scooter more useful outside a purely urban environment.

- 3/4 Open Face Motorcycle Helmet Fits Men and Women. Ideal for ATV, MTB, Dirt Bike, Street Bike, Cruiser, Scooter, Moped, Electric Dirt Bike and Other Outdoor Sports
- New 156.9cc engine: The ADV160 moves from the ADV150’s 149cc-class engine to a liquid-cooled, four-valve eSP+ single-cylinder.
- Revised chassis: Honda lists a 52.1-inch wheelbase and 26.5-degree rake.
- More practical equipment: The 2024 model has a larger 27-liter under-seat compartment, a taller two-position windscreen, Honda Smart Key operation, Honda Selectable Torque Control, and front-wheel ABS.
- Updated U.S. colors: Red Metallic and Pearl Smoky Gray.
The added displacement and four-valve head matter most when accelerating onto faster roads, climbing hills, or riding with a passenger. The ADV160 still has the light controls and easy automatic operation expected from a scooter, but it has more useful reserve than the ADV150 it replaced. Honda’s 2024 brochure provides the U.S.-market equipment and color details.

How fast is the ADV160?
Honda U.S. does not publish a horsepower or torque rating for the 2024 U.S. ADV160 in its brochure or specification sheet. Overseas specifications commonly quote approximately 16 horsepower and 14.7–15 Nm of torque, but those numbers may reflect a different market’s homologation method, crank-output convention, or calibration. They should not be presented as an official U.S. American Honda rating. A HondaGO test report and Young Machine road test are useful for attributed riding impressions, not U.S. instrumented specifications.
In normal use, the ADV160 feels lively from a stop and through ordinary urban speeds. Its continuously variable transmission keeps the engine in its useful operating range without requiring clutch or gear changes. That makes it particularly easy in stop-and-go traffic, where smooth launches and a low center of gravity are more valuable than a large peak-power number.
There is enough performance for city streets, suburban arterials, hills, and moderate two-up riding. The result changes significantly with rider and passenger weight, headwinds, temperature, altitude, road grade, tire condition, and break-in status. Reports describe strong acceleration through urban speeds and adequate performance around 60–100 km/h, or roughly 37–62 mph, but those impressions are not standardized U.S. tests.

There is no single trustworthy universal top-speed number for the ADV160. Speedometer readings, rider weight, wind, slope, tire condition, and market calibration can produce materially different results. The same caution applies to fuel economy: overseas WMTC figures and individual owner reports are not a U.S. EPA rating. Real-world fuel use depends on traffic, throttle habits, temperature, load, and tire pressures.
For a buyer, the more useful conclusion is that the ADV160 has enough speed for normal urban and suburban travel, but its performance reserve narrows as speed, grade, wind, and load increase.
Can the ADV160 ride on the freeway?
It can handle short freeway or expressway sections where local law permits it, but it is not an ideal sustained-highway machine. The scooter can maintain useful speeds in favorable conditions, and its upright ergonomics and adjustable windscreen help with comfort. However, a 157cc engine has limited reserve for high-speed passing, long grades, strong headwinds, or carrying a passenger at traffic speeds.
That apparent contradiction is reflected in the independent coverage. A Japanese Honda rental test reported a roughly 200-kilometer highway ride with good comfort and wind protection, while other reviews characterize the ADV160 as freeway-capable but marginal for regular fast travel. Both can be true: capable of making the trip is not the same as relaxed and well suited to sustained high-speed touring. Check the laws for your state and the specific freeway or road before planning a trip.

Suspension, handling, and light-adventure capability
The ADV160’s advantage over a typical road-focused scooter is its ability to absorb poor surfaces and remain composed when pavement ends. Honda lists a 31mm Showa front fork with 5.1 inches of travel and Showa twin rear shocks with approximately 4.1 inches of travel in the 2024 brochure. The 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels, upright riding position, low center of gravity, and block-pattern-style tires give it more confidence on rough urban roads than its displacement suggests.
Honda’s owner manual lists approximately 6.5 inches of minimum ground clearance. That helps with potholes, driveway edges, washboard surfaces, and shallow ruts, but it does not turn the ADV160 into a dual-sport motorcycle.
Where it works well
- Patched and broken city pavement.
- Potholes, speed bumps, and uneven road transitions.
- Hard-packed dirt, gravel roads, farm roads, and mild forest roads.
- Urban exploration where a conventional scooter would feel harsh or vulnerable.
- Moderate back-road touring with reasonable speeds and luggage.
Where it reaches its limits
- Deep sand or mud, where scooter tires and automatic scooter geometry can become difficult to manage.
- Rocky or highly rutted trails requiring substantial suspension clearance.
- Jumps, technical single-track, and aggressive off-road riding.
- Fast two-up travel over long grades or rough terrain.
Ride reports generally praise the ADV160’s stability and road composure, but the rear suspension can feel firm over sharp bumps, particularly compared with the front. The Young Machine test and an independent 125-kilometer road test both provide useful context for that trade-off.
Load limits matter
The manual lists a maximum total vehicle load of 397 pounds. That number includes the rider, passenger, luggage, and accessories; it is not 397 pounds of passenger and cargo in addition to the rider. The maximum listed load for the under-seat compartment is 22 pounds.
For example, a 180-pound rider and 150-pound passenger would already account for 330 pounds, leaving only 67 pounds for luggage and accessories. Staying within the limit is important for braking, suspension behavior, tires, and stability.
Brakes and safety equipment
The 2024 U.S. ADV160 uses a 240mm front disc with ABS and a rear drum brake. ABS is front-wheel only, not dual-channel ABS. Front ABS can help prevent front-wheel lock during hard braking, but it does not provide the same intervention on the rear wheel as a dual-channel system. Riders who frequently ride in rain, on steep roads, or with a passenger should understand that distinction.
Other safety and security equipment includes:
- Honda Selectable Torque Control: Honda’s traction-management system can limit rear-wheel spin during acceleration on slippery surfaces.
- Emergency Stop Signal: Under the conditions described in the owner’s manual, the turn signals can flash during hard braking above approximately 31 mph to alert following traffic.
- Side-stand ignition cut-off: The engine will not operate normally with the side stand down under the system’s specified conditions.
- Smart Key: Keyless operation is paired with anti-theft and answer-back functions.
The ADV160 therefore has more electronic assistance than many basic small scooters, but its front-only ABS and rear drum are important equipment distinctions when comparing it with newer or larger motorcycles.
Features and everyday usability
Storage
Honda’s U.S. brochure specifies a 27-liter under-seat compartment, including space intended to accommodate a full-face helmet depending on the helmet’s size and shape. Some secondary articles list 30 liters, but the U.S. Honda figure is the appropriate specification for a U.S.-market 2024 model. There is also a 2-liter front box for smaller items.

- MULTI-SPORT PROTECTION: This versatile adult skate helmet works for BMX, skating, scooters, and bikes - one reliable helmet for all your action sports adventures and thrills
- IMPACT RESISTANT: Durable ABS shell with shock-absorbing EPS foam keeps you safe during spills — a men's bike helmet built to handle whatever you throw at it
- COOL AIRFLOW: Ten strategically placed vents create 360-degree ventilation to keep your head cool and comfortable during intense rides - no more overheating or stuffiness
- EASY MAINTENANCE: Removable, washable interior padding wicks moisture and stays fresh, adult bicycle helmets that are simple to clean and maintain ride after ride
- SIZE RANGE: 3 sizes to fit most adult riders - adjustable design accommodates different head circumferences for secure, comfortable protection. Small (51-54cm), Medium (54-57cm) & Large (57-60cm).
Storage is one of the ADV160’s strongest practical advantages. It can carry everyday items without immediately requiring a top box, although riders should confirm that their particular helmet, lock, rain gear, or computer bag actually fits before assuming the published volume tells the whole story.
Windscreen, charging, and controls
- Two-position windscreen: It can be adjusted without tools and provides more wind protection than a basic naked scooter screen.
- USB charging: The socket is USB Type-A, rated at 5V and 2.1A, or 10.5 watts. The owner’s manual warns against using it when wet.
- Instrumentation: A digital display provides the usual riding and vehicle information.
- Lighting: LED lighting is standard.
- Parking and loading: The ADV160 has both a centerstand and a sidestand, along with passenger grab rails and a stepped seat.
The Type-A USB detail is worth noting because generic specifications sometimes describe the bike simply as having a USB port, which can lead buyers to expect USB-C. It does not.
2024 Honda ADV160 price
Original U.S. MSRP
The 2024 Honda ADV160 launched in the United States with a base MSRP of $4,499. Contemporary coverage described that as $150 more than the U.S.-market ADV150. The MSRP did not include destination, freight or setup charges, sales tax, title, registration, licensing, dealer documentation fees, dealer markup, or accessories. Honda’s 2024 preview coverage and the Ultimate Motorcycling first look document the launch price and model overview.
What does a new ADV160 cost now?
Honda’s current U.S. website displays later ADV160 model years rather than a dedicated 2024 sales page. The current listing shows a $4,499 base MSRP and a $600 destination charge, but that does not establish that a 2024 scooter remains available as new inventory or that a dealer will sell one for the original MSRP. Check Honda’s current ADV160 page and inventory search for current listings, then ask for a written out-the-door quote.
A dealer may add freight, assembly or setup, documentation, accessories, and market adjustments. Tax, registration, title, and licensing are normally separate as well. Comparing a used bike’s asking price with the $4,499 historical MSRP without accounting for these items can produce a misleading value judgment.
How to judge a used-bike price
There is no single useful national used-market average without a dated set of comparable listings. Evaluate each ADV160 based on:
- Model year, production date, mileage, and location.
- Whether the NHTSA/Honda recall repair is complete.
- Accident, theft, salvage, or insurance history.
- Dealer versus private-party sale.
- Service records, oil-change history, and remaining warranty coverage.
- Tire age and condition.
- Added accessories—and whether they are useful to you rather than merely expensive to the seller.
- Regional supply and seasonal demand.
2024 ADV160 photos and colors
The U.S.-market colors for 2024 were Red Metallic and Pearl Smoky Gray. Honda’s official 2024 U.S. brochure is the best reference for the correct model-year colors, side profile, equipment, storage, windscreen, suspension, and cockpit imagery.
Honda Global also provides an ADV160 image-download page, but it is associated with Honda’s Japanese-market materials. International ADV160 versions can differ in colors, equipment, pricing, emissions specifications, and model-year naming. Do not use a Japanese or Southeast Asian 2024 image as proof of the exact U.S. specification, and do not assume a current 2026 or 2027 promotional image shows a 2024 colorway.

2024–2025 ADV160 recall: what used buyers must check
Do not buy a used 2024 ADV160 until the VIN and recall status have been verified.
Certain 2024–2025 ADV160 scooters were recalled under NHTSA campaign 25V-195, corresponding to Honda campaign KR9. The oil-pump-driven gear could wear abnormally and potentially stop driving the oil pump. Reduced oil supply could cause engine damage or seizure and lead to loss of drive power. The affected recall population was estimated at 3,316 scooters. Honda’s remedy was replacement of the affected gear at no charge. Read the NHTSA recall acknowledgment, manufacturer report, and Honda service bulletin for the campaign details.
Not every 2024 ADV160 is necessarily affected, so the model year alone does not answer the question. Recall status is a purchase prerequisite, not an automatic reason to reject every example.
Used ADV160 inspection checklist
- Get the full VIN before visiting or paying a seller.
- Run the VIN through the NHTSA recall database.
- Ask a Honda dealer to check campaign KR9 in Honda’s internal system, even if the public lookup is inconclusive.
- Request the repair invoice or campaign-completion record. Do not rely only on a seller’s verbal assurance.
- Listen to the engine at cold start and warm idle for abnormal knocking, grinding, or other unusual noise.
- Confirm the warning lights behave normally at startup and go out as expected, including the engine or oil-related indicators described in the manual.
- Inspect for oil or coolant leaks, damaged bodywork, bent wheels, fork damage, and signs of a crash or tip-over.
- Test the Smart Key, answer-back/alarm function, USB socket, windscreen adjustment, centerstand, and side-stand cut-off.
- Check the brakes: both controls should operate smoothly, the front disc should be free of deep scoring or contamination, and the rear drum should not produce abnormal noise or drag.
- Inspect tires carefully, including tread, sidewall cracking, date age, and pressure. The manual’s listed pressures are 29 psi front and 33 psi rear for the specified tire and load conditions.
- Test the CVT in motion. Look for shuddering, abnormal vibration, slipping, poor takeoff, or unusual noises from the transmission area.
- Review the maintenance history, especially engine oil changes, final-drive service, brake-fluid replacement, coolant service, and documented repairs.
If a seller will not provide the VIN or allow a proper inspection, the risk is not justified by a low asking price.

Maintenance and ownership costs
The ADV160 is mechanically straightforward to operate because its V-Matic transmission eliminates clutch and gear changes, but it still requires scheduled scooter maintenance. Honda’s owner’s manual lists regular inspection points at approximately 0.6, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 thousand miles, along with additional time-based service.
Important manual specifications include:
- Engine oil: SAE 10W-30, JASO MB, API SJ or higher, subject to the manual’s exclusions.
- Oil quantity after draining: approximately 0.79 U.S. quart. Use the manual’s checking procedure rather than blindly adding the full amount.
- Final-drive oil: replacement every two years in the listed schedule.
- Brake fluid: replacement every two years in the listed schedule.
- Coolant: replacement every three years.
- Tires: tubeless; the listed pressures are 29 psi front and 33 psi rear for the specified conditions.
Actual ownership cost depends on dealer labor rates, region, parts availability, tire choices, insurance, registration, and whether the owner performs permitted routine work. A fixed annual cost would be misleading without a local service estimate.
2024 Honda ADV160 versus the alternatives
Honda PCX160
The PCX160 is the closest comparison because it shares the same general small-displacement automatic-scooter mission and engine family. It is the more road-focused choice, while the ADV160 adds longer-travel suspension, greater ground clearance, rugged styling, and better rough-surface confidence. The PCX is generally positioned below the ADV160 in Honda’s U.S. lineup. Buyers who spend nearly all their time on smooth pavement may prefer the PCX; riders dealing with potholes, gravel, and poor roads have a stronger reason to pay for the ADV160’s crossover hardware. Compare current availability on Honda’s U.S. scooter listings.
Honda ADV150
A clean ADV150 can still make sense for a city-only buyer if it is substantially cheaper and well maintained. However, the 2024 ADV160 brings the larger four-valve eSP+ engine, revised chassis, additional storage, and newer equipment. The ADV150 should not be treated as mechanically identical to the 2024 model.

Larger scooters and motorcycles
Riders who regularly use fast freeways, carry a passenger and luggage over long distances, or tour through steep and windy terrain should consider moving up in displacement. A larger scooter or motorcycle offers more reserve power, greater high-speed stability, and often stronger braking hardware, though it will usually cost more and weigh more. The ADV160’s advantage is not maximum performance; it is the balance of manageable size, automatic convenience, storage, and rough-road composure.
Who should buy the 2024 ADV160?
The ADV160 is a strong match for:
- Urban and suburban commuters.
- First-time motorcycle owners who want automatic operation.
- Riders who regularly encounter potholes, patched pavement, and speed bumps.
- Commuters who value under-seat storage, a Smart Key, and built-in charging.
- Riders who want occasional gravel or hard-packed dirt capability without buying a full-size adventure motorcycle.
- ADV150 owners who want more engine performance and updated equipment.
Who should choose something else?
Look elsewhere if your priorities are:
- Frequent sustained high-speed freeway travel.
- Serious off-road riding, deep sand, mud, or technical trails.
- Dual-channel ABS.
- Frequent heavy two-up touring with substantial luggage.
- A low purchase price with minimal dealer fees and accessories.
- A manual gearbox and the engine-braking control of a conventional motorcycle.
Final verdict
The 2024 Honda ADV160 is one of the more convincing small crossover scooters because it solves real everyday problems: it is easy to launch, nimble at low speed, has useful storage, protects the rider better than a bare city scooter, and handles rough pavement and mild gravel with confidence. The 157cc engine is a meaningful improvement over the ADV150, but it does not erase the limitations of small displacement.
For a used buyer, the most important question is not whether the ADV160 is generally reliable or whether the asking price matches its original MSRP. It is whether that specific scooter has a clear VIN, documented completion of recall KR9/NHTSA 25V-195, sensible maintenance, healthy tires and brakes, and no signs of crash or neglect.
New old stock is worth considering only at an appropriately discounted out-the-door price. A used example can be an excellent urban-adventure buy when the recall and service history are documented. For occasional freeway use it is capable where legal, but for regular high-speed touring a larger scooter or motorcycle is the better tool.

Was 2024 the first Honda ADV160 model year in the United States?
Yes. The 2024 ADV160 was the first U.S. model year for the ADV160 name and replaced the U.S.-market ADV150. International ADV160 versions had already existed, but their equipment, colors, pricing, and model-year labels may differ.
Does every 2024 Honda ADV160 have the oil-pump-gear recall?
No. The recall affects certain 2024–2025 scooters. Check the VIN through NHTSA and ask a Honda dealer to verify Honda campaign KR9 completion. Do not rely on the model year alone.
Is the 2024 ADV160 suitable for serious off-road riding?
No. Its suspension travel, wheel sizes, ground clearance, tires, and scooter chassis make it useful on gravel, hard-packed dirt, potholes, and mild rough roads. Deep sand, mud, rocky trails, jumps, and technical terrain are outside its intended capability.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The 2024 Honda ADV160 is best bought as a practical urban scooter with light-adventure capability, not as a miniature dual-sport or high-speed touring bike. Its historical U.S. MSRP was $4,499, and a used example can be a smart purchase—but only after the VIN confirms that recall KR9/NHTSA 25V-195 has been completed and the scooter passes a careful mechanical inspection.
