The best anti-theft alarm depends on what you need it to do. An alarmed lock such as the ABUS SmartX 770A both secures a high-value e-bike and sounds a local siren. A compatible Bosch e-bike can use Bosch eBike Alarm with ConnectModule for integrated alarm notifications and tracking. For a motorcycle, the ABUS GRANIT Detecto XPlus 8077 2.0 is a substantial alarmed disc lock, while the Scorpio SRX-900 is the more capable choice for a permanently installed siren, remote alerts and optional immobilization.
If recovery matters more than making noise, choose a concealed cellular tracker such as Monimoto 9 or Invoxia GPS Tracker Pro Max. These notify your phone and help locate a stolen bike, but they do not replace a mechanical lock. A determined thief can ignore an alarm, cut a cable or lift a motorcycle into a van, so the most effective setup layers a fixed anchor and hardened lock with an alarm and a concealed tracker.
This guide compares ten products by the protection they actually provide: physical delay, local deterrence, remote notification, tracking, installation, battery management, phone compatibility, subscription cost and regional availability. Specifications, prices and availability noted below were checked on August 9, 2026, and can change.

Products sold as alarms fall into several different categories. Treating them as interchangeable is the biggest problem with most comparison lists.
| Type | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Alarmed lock | Physically restrains a wheel or frame and sounds when it detects movement or tampering. | Usually cannot locate the bike after it leaves the scene and may not anchor it to a fixed object. |
| Standalone audible alarm | Detects movement and attracts attention when attached to a bike or locking element. | Does not necessarily resist cutting; the thief may cut the separate cable or chain and leave the alarm behind. |
| Hardwired motorcycle alarm | Uses the motorcycle battery and sensors for a siren, remote paging, ignition detection and sometimes immobilization. | Requires installation and may be disabled if wiring is exposed or the vehicle battery is disconnected. |
| Cellular GPS tracker | Notifies the owner and reports location or movement over a cellular network. | Usually makes no sound, does not physically restrain the bike and can lose GPS reception inside structures or metal vehicles. |
| Bluetooth community tracker | Uses nearby phones or a phone connection to assist with locating. | Is not equivalent to an independent cellular GPS tracker and may have limited alarm or Android support. |
| OEM e-bike security | Integrates digital locking, alarm behavior, notifications and tracking into a compatible e-bike system. | Only works with supported bikes and still does not replace a mechanical lock. |
Audible alarms are primarily deterrence and attention devices. Trackers are primarily notification and recovery devices. Physical locks create the time and noise that make a theft harder. The strongest setup uses all three layers.

How the ten recommendations were selected
The recommendations separate capabilities rather than awarding a single score to products that solve different problems. The criteria were:
- Physical resistance: whether the product is a real lock, the size and construction of its locking element, whether it can attach the vehicle to a fixed object and whether relevant security certifications are available.
- Detection: whether it reacts to shock, vibration, tilt, three-dimensional movement, ignition tampering, geofence movement or the absence of a paired key fob.
- Alert path: whether it sounds at the bike, sends a push notification, places a phone call or uses a remote pager.
- Recovery: whether it has cellular GPS, Apple Find My or another location service, and how the product behaves when GPS or cellular signals are unavailable.
- Practical ownership: installation, charging, replaceable batteries, false alarms, water exposure, phone compatibility and transport behavior.
- Total cost: device price, subscription, batteries, proprietary accessories and professional installation.
- Evidence: manufacturer documentation supplemented by independent reviews where available. The recommendations do not claim hands-on testing.
For an expensive e-bike, a high-security mechanical lock remains the foundation. Cyclingnews recommends high-security ratings for valuable e-bikes and warns that ordinary cables are generally too easy and quiet to cut for primary protection. See its e-bike lock guide. No bike lock is theft-proof, as both Cyclingnews and Cycling Weekly emphasize.

The 10 best anti-theft alarms
1. ABUS SmartX 770A — best alarmed lock for a high-value e-bike
Best for: E-bike, cargo-bike and commuter-bike owners who want one product to provide meaningful physical security and a local alarm.
The ABUS SmartX 770A is a Bluetooth-enabled U-lock with a 13 mm hardened square parabolic shackle. It unlocks through the ABUS One app rather than a conventional key and uses three-dimensional movement detection to identify tampering. ABUS lists a minimum 100 dB alarm.
Verified features
- 13 mm hardened shackle.
- Bluetooth unlocking through the ABUS One app, with iOS and Android support.
- 3D position detection.
- Minimum 100 dB alarm for 15 seconds.
- Automatic re-arming after the alarm cycle.
- Minor movement produces a warning tone instead of immediately starting the full alarm.
- Multiple shackle lengths, which must be matched to the frame, wheel and fixed anchor.
What it protects against
The SmartX 770A is useful when you want a thief to confront both a substantial U-lock and an attention-grabbing alarm. It is more complete than a standalone alarm because the locking body and shackle are part of the same device. It is a particularly sensible choice for a high-value e-bike parked briefly in public.
What it does not do
It is not a GPS tracker. Bluetooth unlocking also creates dependencies on the phone, app and lock battery. A U-lock may not fit around a bulky cargo-bike frame, wheel and anchor at the same time, so measure the parking setup before choosing the shackle length. Do not describe it as the strongest e-bike lock without independent attack testing; the defensible claim is that it combines substantial physical security with a local alarm and app operation.

Use the SmartX 770A through the frame and a wheel, preferably to a fixed anchor. Add a separate concealed tracker for a particularly valuable e-bike. Keep the app installed, maintain the lock battery and carry a backup plan for a dead phone or lock battery.
2. Bosch eBike Alarm with ConnectModule — best integrated e-bike system
Best for: Owners of compatible Bosch smart-system e-bikes who want concealed, automatic security through the manufacturer’s app.
Bosch eBike Alarm works only on supported Bosch e-bikes equipped with the smart system and a compatible ConnectModule. It is not a universal accessory for every e-bike with a Bosch motor. Bosch combines eBike Lock and eBike Alarm in the eBike Flow ecosystem.
How it works
- eBike Alarm activates together with eBike Lock.
- Slight movement produces audible signals and illuminated LEDs.
- Significant movement triggers a smartphone notification.
- Tracking mode allows the owner to view the e-bike’s location and movement history.
- Bosch says the ConnectModule can provide position updates for at least one week in tracking mode, depending on movement and update behavior.
- The audible signal requires the main e-bike battery to be connected.
- A Flow+ subscription is required. Bosch’s subscription documentation describes a 12-month free period with ConnectModule; check the current price in the eBike Flow app because pricing can vary by market.
Setup path
- Confirm that the bike uses Bosch’s smart system.
- Open the eBike Flow app and check whether a ConnectModule retrofit is supported for that specific bike and frame.
- Have the module installed by the manufacturer or an authorized dealer when required.
- Activate Flow+.
- From the e-bike home screen, open eBike settings → Lock & Alarm.
- Activate both eBike Lock and eBike Alarm.
- Test the alarm with the main battery connected.
- Before carrying the bike by car, train or plane, use eBike settings → Transport mode. Transport mode disables the alarm and tracking to prevent false alerts.
Limitations
Bosch eBike Alarm is not a physical lock. A compatible motor does not automatically mean that the frame can accept a ConnectModule retrofit. Removing or disconnecting the main battery can affect the audible alarm, even though the ConnectModule has its own battery. If Flow+ expires, eBike Alarm eventually becomes unavailable. Bosch’s e-bike management support information and regional compatibility pages should be checked before purchase.
Recommended Free Tools
Recommended pairing
Use Bosch’s system as the integrated alert layer, then add a mechanical Gold- or Diamond-rated lock to secure the frame to a fixed object. A concealed cellular tracker can add redundancy for a very expensive bike, but test whether its signal works in the usual parking location.
3. ABUS GRANIT Detecto XPlus 8077 2.0 — best high-security motorcycle alarm disc lock
Best for: High-value motorcycles and riders who want a substantial alarmed disc lock with a warning stage before the full siren.
The ABUS GRANIT Detecto XPlus 8077 2.0 uses a 13.5 mm hardened locking bolt, three-dimensional movement detection and a 100 dB alarm. Its intelligent pre-alarm is designed to reduce nuisance alarms from minor contact.
Verified features
- 13.5 mm locking bolt.
- 100 dB alarm claim.
- Seven-tone intelligent pre-alarm.
- Full alarm for 15 seconds, followed by automatic re-arming.
- 3D movement detection.
- Automatic brake-disc detection, allowing the locked unit to be carried without continuously triggering it.
- Two included AAA batteries.
- ABUS-listed 48 mm inner clearance and approximately 940 g weight.
The large locking bolt is a more substantial physical obstacle than the pin used by many compact alarm disc locks. It is a better fit for overnight or urban motorcycle parking, especially when combined with a chain and fixed ground anchor.
Critical limitation
A disc lock immobilizes the wheel but does not attach the motorcycle to the ground. Two people can still lift the bike into a vehicle. ABUS itself recommends adding a chain or fixed-object anchor for longer parking periods. Check the rotor hole size, disc thickness and caliper clearance before buying.
Always use a reminder cable. Riding away with a disc lock attached can damage the brake system and cause a crash.
Recommended pairing
Use the 8077 2.0 for short stops, and add a hardened chain through the frame to a fixed anchor for overnight parking. For remote notification, add Monimoto 9 or Invoxia Pro Max in a separate concealed location.

- Low Battery IndicationCable lock is powered by 3AAA batteries. LED of lock flash every 1s if it is in low battery condition, there will also be "Du Du" sound when lock or unlock. We need to replace for remote if LED of remote will is dark or remote distance get short
- Wide UseThis bicycle alarm lock can also be used for protecting motorcycle, tool box, skateboard, sports equipment, gate, fence, baby stroller, scooter and other valuables
4. Scorpio SRX-900 — best hardwired motorcycle alarm
Best for: A 12-volt motorcycle that spends substantial time outside, where a permanently installed alarm, remote alert and optional immobilizer are worth the installation effort.
The Scorpio SRX-900 is a hardwired motorcycle security system with a built-in siren and sensors for shock, tilt and ignition tampering. The manufacturer lists a 125 dB multi-tone siren, hands-free RFID arming and remote alerts. An optional starter-disable accessory can prevent the engine from being started.
Verified features
- Designed for motorcycles using a 12-volt battery.
- Three-wire installation harness.
- Hands-free smart remote with alerts.
- Shock, tilt and ignition sensors in the main module.
- Manufacturer-rated 125 dB built-in siren.
- Optional perimeter sensor for approach detection around the motorcycle or luggage.
- Optional starter-disable accessory.
- Optional Rlink GPS service with phone alerts, ride history, geofences and location sharing; Rlink requires a subscription.
Scorpio explicitly excludes full-electric motorcycles from its SRX-900 compatibility statement. Do not install it on a full-electric motorcycle simply because the vehicle has a battery; confirm the manufacturer’s compatibility requirements.
Installation cautions
- Confirm the motorcycle battery and switched-power wiring before installation.
- Use the correct model-specific integration kit where one is required.
- Protect wiring from heat, water and steering movement.
- Test the ignition, tilt, shock, remote and starter-disable functions separately.
- Set the perimeter sensor conservatively in crowded parking areas to avoid alerts from pedestrians or neighboring motorcycles.
The 125 dB figure is a manufacturer specification, not proof that the siren will produce 125 dB at a standardized distance in every installation. A hardwired system can also be discovered or disconnected if its module and wiring are placed where they are easy to find.
Recommended pairing
Use the SRX-900 with a chain and ground anchor. If you choose the optional Rlink service, install the alarm and tracker components in separate locations so one discovered module does not eliminate both layers.
5. Xena XX6 — best compact loud alarm disc lock
Best for: Motorcycle and scooter riders who prioritize a small, portable alarm disc lock for quick stops.
The Xena XX6 has a 6 mm hardened-steel locking pin, stainless-steel body, shock and movement sensors, automatic arming and a manufacturer-claimed 120 dB alarm. It uses one CR2 lithium battery and weighs approximately 483 g according to the manufacturer.
Retailer specifications identify a 42 mm throat width and 6 mm pin. Fit it close to the caliper on a compatible rotor, then test it in the actual parking position. Keep a spare CR2 battery available.
Trade-offs
The XX6 is more portable than the ABUS 8077 2.0, but its 6 mm pin is physically less substantial than the ABUS’s 13.5 mm bolt. Its high decibel claim should not be treated as proof that it offers better real-world security than an 85 or 100 dB product. Sound-pressure ratings depend on measurement distance, frequency and test method, and the Xena alarm’s sensitivity can produce false-trigger concerns in some environments.

As with every disc lock, use a reminder cable and remember that the device immobilizes a wheel but does not anchor the motorcycle.
6. Monimoto 9 — best hidden GPS tracker with phone-call alerts
Best for: Motorcycle, scooter and e-bike owners who want a concealed wireless tracker that calls the owner instead of relying only on a push notification.
Monimoto 9 is a silent LTE-M GPS tracker. It automatically arms when the paired key fob is absent and calls the owner when unauthorized movement is detected. Monimoto’s FAQ makes the important distinction that it does not sound a local alarm, physically immobilize the vehicle or reveal itself to nearby people.
US cost and hardware
- Device price checked: $179.
- Two months of connectivity included.
- US service after the included period: $49 per year.
- Embedded eSIM and LTE-M connectivity where supported.
- IP68 rating.
- Approximately 60 g / 2.05 oz.
- Approximately 93 × 38 × 15 mm.
- Rechargeable 900 mAh battery.
- Manufacturer-claimed battery life of up to 12 months in normal use.
- iOS and Android app support.
- Up to three key fobs can be paired with one tracker.
- Key-fob range is approximately 25 m / 82 ft in open conditions, usually less through walls and obstacles.
Alert sequence
- The tracker detects movement.
- It checks whether the paired key fob is nearby.
- If the fob is absent, it enters Alarm mode.
- It calls the owner and sends app notifications.
- It sends location updates roughly every five to ten minutes while movement continues by default; the manual says Live Tracking can reduce that interval to roughly two to three minutes.
- After approximately 30 minutes without movement, it sends a final location and cancels the alarm.
- If movement starts again, the cycle repeats.
This is event-based tracking rather than an always-connected location stream. Monimoto’s 12-month figure describes normal use, not continuous alarm-mode tracking. Its user manual warns that alarm mode can use up to approximately 500 five-minute locations or last several days depending on the battery state.
Setup that prevents the most common mistake
- Install the Monimoto app.
- Remove the battery tabs and pair the tracker and fob through the app, not through the phone’s general Bluetooth settings.
- Keep the fob on your person and separate from the motorcycle keys. Do not leave it in a jacket or bag stored with the vehicle.
- Hide and secure the tracker. Position the logo side sideways or toward the sky where possible.
- Test it outdoors, not only inside a garage.
- Confirm that the call, push notification and location arrive on your phone.
Limitations
GPS can perform poorly in basements, underground parking, garages, metal-lined compartments and vans. If a thief finds the tracker, it can be removed. A tracker cannot stop the theft and should be paired with a fixed mechanical lock. Its key-fob logic is excellent for automatic arming but creates a serious failure mode if the fob travels with the bike.
7. Knog Scout — best iPhone bike alarm and Apple Find My tracker
Best for: iPhone-owning e-bike and bicycle commuters who already use a strong lock and want a discreet, subscription-free alarm and community-assisted locator.
Knog Scout mounts to standard bottle-cage bosses and provides an 85 dB motion-sensitive alarm plus Apple Find My integration. It can be hidden beneath a bottle cage using tamper-resistant screws. Its US price was listed as $64.99 when checked.

- USB-C rechargeable battery.
- Claimed battery life of two to six months depending on use.
- IP66 water resistance.
- 25 g / 0.88 oz.
- Bottle-cage mounting with tamperproof screws, spacers, security tool and silicone cover.
- USB-C charging cable is not included.
BikeRadar’s review found the alarm loud enough to attract attention and the locating feature useful, while identifying the lack of Android support as a major limitation.
What Apple Find My means here
Find My locating uses nearby Apple devices to relay the Scout’s position. That makes it a useful low-cost recovery layer in areas with many Apple devices, but it is not the same as independent cellular GPS tracking. Some owner notifications and alarm functions also depend on proximity to the owner’s iPhone. Android users should exclude the Scout from consideration.
Trade-offs
Scout does not physically lock the bike. A visible bottle-cage installation may reveal the device to a thief, while a hidden installation can make it less obvious but may affect signal performance. It is best as a discreet second layer behind a high-security U-lock or chain, not as the primary security device.
8. ABUS Alarmbox 2.0 — best standalone add-on alarm
Best for: Owners who already have a good U-lock or chain and want to add a movement alarm without replacing it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe ABUS Alarmbox 2.0 is a portable, key-operated alarm module that attaches to round tubes and can work with compatible ABUS adapter chains and cables. It detects shock and movement, gives a brief warning tone for minor movement and then sounds a claimed 100 dB alarm for 15 seconds before reactivating.
Features
- 100 dB alarm for 15 seconds followed by reactivation.
- 3D position detection.
- Brief warning tone for minor movement.
- Compatible with ABUS adapter chains and cables.
- CR2 battery included.
- Manufacturer-listed weight of approximately 0.95 lb.
- Designed for bicycles, e-scooters, strollers and other property.
Cycling Weekly’s review found the Alarmbox robust, loud and well calibrated, but considered an alarm-integrated lock better value in many situations.
How to use it correctly
- Secure the frame and wheel to a fixed object with a high-security U-lock or chain.
- Mount the Alarmbox where movement of the frame or locking element will be detected.
- Test both the warning and full-alarm stages.
- Check the CR2 battery regularly.
- Do not rely on the Alarmbox alone to resist cutting.
The main weakness of a separate alarm is obvious: a thief may cut the cable or chain and leave the Alarmbox behind. It is a useful alert layer, not a replacement for the locking element.
9. Invoxia GPS Tracker Pro Max — best long-battery cellular tracker
Best for: Motorcycle, scooter, e-bike and other high-value vehicle owners who want a wireless cellular tracker with a comparatively long battery interval and live-tracking mode.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The Invoxia GPS Tracker Pro Max uses 4G LTE-M, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It can send movement, vibration, tilt and geofence alerts, show location history and generate a theft report.
US specifications and cost
- Up to six months of claimed battery life, depending on settings and conditions.
- IP67 water resistance.
- 4G LTE-M connectivity.
- Coverage in the United States and more than 35 countries, subject to network availability.
- Up to one location update per second in live-tracking mode according to Invoxia.
- Built-in SIM.
- 2,000 mAh battery.
- Approximately 4.4 × 1.5 × 0.7 inches.
- Approximately 2.5 oz / 70 g.
- iOS and Android support.
- One year of subscription included.
- US renewal pricing shown by Invoxia: $66.95 per year or $8.95 per month.
Limitations
Pro Max is a tracker and phone-alert system, not a local siren. It is larger than a bike-specific hidden tracker, and battery life changes with update frequency, network quality and movement. Mount it where it can receive GPS and cellular signals; a deep metal compartment can interfere with both.
Do not read the one-position-per-second claim as continuous nationwide tracking under every condition. Invoxia presents it as a maximum live-tracking capability after an alert. GPS, cellular coverage and the vehicle’s enclosure still determine what the device can report.
Recommended pairing
Use the Pro Max with a hardened chain and fixed anchor. If you need a more discreet installation on an e-bike, compare its size with Monimoto, BikeFinder or an internally installed tracker before ordering.
10. Oxford Boss Alarm 14 mm — best chain-compatible alarm lock
Best for: UK riders who want one alarmed lock that can function as a disc lock or padlock and connect to a chain.
The Oxford Boss Alarm 14 mm uses a 14 mm locking construction and a claimed 100 dB alarm. Its removable alarm module is weather-resistant, and the lock can be used with a chain rather than only through a brake disc. Oxford lists Sold Secure Powered Cycle Motorcycle Gold, SBSC and FG approvals for the product.
Features and price
- 14 mm locking construction.
- 100 dB alarm claim.
- Movement sensors.
- Disc-lock or padlock use.
- Chain compatibility.
- Manufacturer-rated anti-jack design with 4.5 tonnes of tensile-load resistance.
- Six LR44 batteries.
- Three keys supplied.
- RRP checked: £89.99.
This is a useful option for garage or overnight security when paired with a ground anchor and chain. It is heavier and less convenient for quick stops than a compact alarm disc lock.
The price and availability above are UK-market facts. A UK certification or approval may not satisfy a US insurer, and readers should check their own policy requirements. Do not treat disc-lock use alone as equivalent to anchoring the motorcycle.

A silent tracker can be the right answer for a bike parked in a quiet residential garage where a siren would be difficult to hear. A local alarm is more valuable in a busy public area where passersby might interrupt tampering. A high-value motorcycle left outdoors overnight benefits from both.
Rank #4
- 【1pcs Black Lock】- This alarm disc lock set includes 1pcs black alarm disc lock, 1pcs Allen wrench, 2pcs security keys, 1pcs reminder cable, 1pcs storage bag and 6pcs internal batteries and 6pcs back up for longer use.
- 【Anti-theft Alarm Lock】- The alarm disc lock allows you to protect your beloved motorcycle or bicycle when parking outdoors or at home. When any vibration or shock is sensed when the alarm disc is located, it will automatically activate an alarm up to 110db.
- 【Premium Quality & Waterproof】- The alarm disc lock adopts a high-grade heavy-duty steel body, which makes the alarm brake lock more durable. The 6mm lock pin is super sturdy and practical. The forged steel is waterproof, rust-proof and weather-resistant so that it can work normally in rainy days.
- 【One-press Operation】- Disc brake lock set is one-key operation, you only need to press the button with a "beep" sound to enter the alarm state. By locking the disc brake to work, it helps to stop the vehicle from moving and keep your belongings safe.
- 【Wide Application】- This is a security anti-theft disc brake lock, which is suitable for various vehicles with disc brakes up to 6mm: motorcycles, electric cars, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, etc.
Security hierarchy: build layers instead of buying one gadget
- Fixed anchor and hardened lock: Make the motorcycle or e-bike difficult to roll, lift or carry. For expensive e-bikes, consider a high-security U-lock or chain with an appropriate independent rating. Cables are generally supplemental rather than primary security.
- Alarm: Detect movement and create noise before the thief has time to finish cutting or loading.
- Concealed tracker: Send a notification and improve the chance of recovery if the physical layers fail.
- Documentation and insurance: Record the frame or VIN-equivalent serial information, photographs, receipts and modifications. Check whether your insurer requires a particular lock rating or storage method.
Example setup for an e-bike
- Use a hardened U-lock or chain through the frame and wheel to a fixed object.
- Add ABUS Alarmbox 2.0 if you already own the mechanical lock, or use ABUS SmartX 770A if an alarmed U-lock fits your frame and anchor.
- If the bike has Bosch smart system and a compatible ConnectModule, activate Bosch eBike Lock and eBike Alarm.
- For a very expensive bike, add a concealed cellular tracker such as Monimoto 9, Invoxia Pro Max, BikeFinder or PowUnity BikeTrax.
- Remove the removable battery when practical, but understand that this may affect the audible behavior of an OEM alarm.
- Register the bike and retain the serial number, purchase record and identifying photographs.
Example setup for a motorcycle
- Use ABUS 8077 2.0, Xena XX6 or Oxford Boss Alarm for short stops, always with a reminder cable.
- For overnight parking, run a hardened chain through the frame to a fixed ground anchor. A wheel disc lock alone does not stop lifting.
- Choose Scorpio SRX-900 for a hardwired siren, remote alerts and optional starter disable on a compatible 12-volt motorcycle.
- Add Monimoto 9 or Invoxia Pro Max as a hidden tracker, placing it separately from the alarm so one discovered component does not remove every layer.
- Use a cover that does not advertise the motorcycle’s model or security equipment.
Buying guide: the details that determine whether an alarm works
1. Does it physically delay theft?
Start by asking whether the product is an actual lock. The ABUS SmartX, ABUS 8077 and Oxford Boss physically restrain something. The Alarmbox and Knog Scout mainly detect movement. Monimoto and Invoxia report movement. Bosch adds integrated digital security but explicitly does not physically lock the bike.
For a long parking period, the important question is whether the lock connects the vehicle to a fixed object. A disc lock can stop a wheel turning but cannot prevent a thief from lifting the motorcycle. A cable can trigger an alarm yet still be cut rapidly and quietly. Physical security should be judged separately from alarm loudness.
2. What event triggers the alarm?
- Shock or vibration: Useful for cutting or striking, but a smooth lift may not create enough shock.
- Tilt: Valuable for motorcycles because lifting or rolling changes the vehicle’s angle.
- 3D movement: Used by products such as ABUS SmartX and ABUS 8077 to detect movement across multiple axes.
- Ignition tampering: Available in systems such as Scorpio SRX-900.
- Key-fob absence: Monimoto arms when the paired fob is not nearby.
- Geofence crossing: Available with some trackers, but only after the device can determine its location and communicate.
- Battery disconnection: Behavior varies. Check whether the alarm has backup power and whether the main battery is required for its siren.
3. What does the decibel number really tell you?
Not enough to rank products precisely. A 120 dB claim is not automatically more effective than an 85 dB claim in real use. Sound pressure depends on measurement distance, frequency, enclosure, installation and the surrounding environment. Manufacturer specifications from Xena, Scorpio, ABUS, Knog and Oxford should be reported as claims, not compared as if all were measured under one laboratory standard.
4. What is the total cost?
Calculate the first-year and ongoing cost separately. Include the device, cellular service, app subscription, replacement batteries, proprietary accessories and professional installation.
- Monimoto 9: $179 checked price, two months included and $49 per year in US service afterward.
- Invoxia Pro Max: One year included; Invoxia’s US page listed renewal at $66.95 per year or $8.95 per month.
- Bosch eBike Alarm: Requires Flow+. Bosch documentation describes a 12-month free period with ConnectModule; check current regional pricing in the eBike Flow app.
- BikeFinder and PowUnity: Tracking requires active service plans, and pricing and coverage are market-specific.
- Audible locks: Usually have no cellular subscription, but require charging or replacement batteries and may require a separate chain or anchor.
5. Is it compatible with your phone?
- Knog Scout: iOS only.
- Monimoto: iOS and Android.
- Invoxia Pro Max: iOS and Android.
- ABUS SmartX: Bluetooth operation through ABUS One for iOS and Android.
- Bosch: Requires the eBike Flow app and a compatible smart-system bike.
6. What is the battery strategy?
Replaceable AAA, CR2 or LR44 batteries are easy to swap but must be monitored. Rechargeable devices are convenient but need a charging schedule. A tracker’s quoted standby life is not its life during continuous movement and alarm reporting. Motorcycle systems can draw from the vehicle battery, while an e-bike alarm may depend on the main e-bike battery for its audible siren.
Before storing a vehicle for winter, check the battery level, low-battery alerts and manufacturer storage recommendations. A tracker left uncharged or a disc lock with a dead coin cell is not active protection.
7. Will it work where the bike is parked?
Cellular and GPS devices can struggle inside metal sheds, underground garages, concrete structures, vans and shipping containers. GPS may be unavailable even when a cellular notification eventually reaches the phone. Apple Find My depends on nearby Apple devices rather than an independent cellular connection. Test the tracker outdoors and at the normal parking location before relying on it.

Setup and test checklist
Do not wait until the bike is stolen to discover that the app account, fob or signal is configured incorrectly.
- Test movement detection on the actual bike, not just on a desk.
- Test the warning tone and full siren.
- Confirm that phone notifications or calls reach the correct owner.
- Test GPS location outdoors and in the normal parking location.
- Check the low-battery warning and charging indicator.
- For an e-bike, test behavior with the main battery removed or disconnected.
- For a motorcycle, test ignition and starter-disable functions separately.
- Confirm the tracker is associated with your account and not a previous owner’s.
- Record serial numbers, frame numbers, receipts and clear photographs.
- Test Bosch Transport mode before carrying the bike by car, train or plane.
- Use a reminder cable with every disc lock.
- Confirm that Monimoto’s key fob stays with you rather than with the vehicle.
- Check cellular coverage and subscription renewal dates.
- Set the lowest alarm sensitivity that reliably detects lifting, rolling or tampering at your parking location.
Common failure modes and how to prevent them
False alarms
Wind, a loose cover, an unstable surface, neighboring bikes, a crowded rack or an overly sensitive perimeter sensor can produce nuisance alarms. Maximum sensitivity is not automatically safer if it causes you to ignore notifications or disable the system. Test the alarm in the actual environment and use the least sensitive setting that detects meaningful movement.
The thief cuts the cable and leaves the alarm
This is the principal weakness of a standalone alarm attached to a separate cable or chain. The alarm may alert you, but it does not necessarily make the locking element difficult to cut. Use a high-security lock attached to a fixed object, then add the alarm as a second layer.
The thief lifts the motorcycle into a van
Disc locks and local alarms may sound, but they do not prevent lifting. Bluetooth alarms can lose owner-phone contact once the vehicle leaves range. GPS can become less accurate inside a metal vehicle. Cellular tracking may continue if the tracker can reach the network. A ground anchor and chain provide a stronger physical response to this scenario.

The tracker is found
A visible tracker is easier to remove, while a hidden tracker may have poorer signal reception. Hide it without completely surrounding it in metal, test the signal at the parking location and consider placing two recovery devices in different locations. Do not advertise a branded tracker with an obvious mount if recovery is the priority.
Cycling Weekly’s GPS tracker coverage also recommends discreet placement because thieves may search for visible tracking devices.
The owner carries Monimoto’s fob with the vehicle
Keep the key fob on your person and separate from the motorcycle keys. If the fob is left in a jacket, bag or storage compartment that travels with the bike, Monimoto may interpret movement as authorized and not trigger its alarm sequence.
The owner forgets to disarm the system
Before riding, confirm the lock or alarm state, disarm the alarm, remove the disc lock, check the key fob and disable any transport or alarm mode that should not remain active. A reminder cable is inexpensive protection against riding away with a disc lock attached.

Battery-removal behavior varies. Bosch qualifies that its audible signal requires the main e-bike battery to be connected. A motorcycle alarm may depend on the 12-volt battery unless it has backup power. A tracker with its own internal battery can continue for a limited time, but it still needs signal and remaining charge.

What other alarm lists often get wrong
- They mix alarms, locks and trackers: A tracker can help recovery but cannot delay theft. A disc lock can delay rolling but cannot anchor the motorcycle. Label each product by its actual protection layer.
- They rank decibel numbers: Manufacturer claims are not directly comparable without a common test method.
- They call Monimoto a siren alarm: Monimoto’s own FAQ says it makes no local alarm sound. It is a silent GPS and phone-call alert system.
- They overlook OEM e-bike systems: Bosch eBike Alarm can be the most integrated option for a supported bike, but compatibility must be established first.
- They fail to mention lifting: A wheel lock is not a fixed anchor.
- They hide recurring costs: Cellular subscriptions, special batteries, professional installation and proprietary accessories affect ownership cost.
- They omit transport mode: Bosch users should enable Transport mode before carrying the bike to avoid false alarms and unwanted tracking.
- They overstate GPS precision: Indoor, underground and metal environments can reduce accuracy or stop location updates.
- They ignore geography: Oxford approvals and pricing, and BikeFinder, PowUnity and AlterLock availability, vary by region.
What to do if the bike is stolen
- Move to a safe location and do not confront the suspected thief.
- Use the tracker’s live location or last known location to create a record, but do not enter private property or attempt a recovery yourself.
- Report the theft to police and provide the live location, frame or serial number, photographs, purchase records and identifying modifications.
- Contact the tracker provider if it offers a theft-report or recovery process.
- Notify your insurer promptly and provide the lock, storage and alarm details they request.
- Change account passwords if the stolen bike was connected to an app or shared account.
- Preserve notification history, location history and screenshots for police and insurance.
A tracker provides useful information but does not guarantee police recovery. The safest role for the owner is to supply accurate location data and documentation, not to confront suspects.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best anti-theft alarm for an e-bike?
For a high-value e-bike that needs both a lock and a siren, the ABUS SmartX 770A is the strongest all-in-one recommendation in this list. If the bike uses Bosch’s smart system and supports a ConnectModule, Bosch eBike Alarm offers better factory integration and phone-based tracking. Neither replaces a mechanical lock attached to a fixed object.
What is the best alarm for a motorcycle?
The ABUS GRANIT Detecto XPlus 8077 2.0 is the best substantial alarmed disc lock, while the Scorpio SRX-900 is the better hardwired system for a compatible 12-volt motorcycle. Add a chain and ground anchor because neither a disc lock nor a siren alone prevents a motorcycle from being lifted.
Can a GPS tracker replace a motorcycle or e-bike lock?
No. Monimoto, Invoxia, Bosch tracking and similar products notify the owner or help locate the vehicle after movement, but they do not physically delay theft. Use a hardened U-lock or chain connected to a fixed anchor, then add a tracker for recovery.
Do e-bike alarms require a subscription?
It depends on the product. Audible locks such as ABUS SmartX and ABUS Alarmbox generally do not require cellular service. Bosch eBike Alarm requires Flow+. Monimoto, Invoxia, BikeFinder and PowUnity require paid service for ongoing cellular tracking after any included period.
Will an alarm work if the e-bike battery is removed?
Not necessarily. Bosch states that its audible alarm requires the main e-bike battery to be connected, although the ConnectModule has its own battery for other functions. Check the exact product behavior before relying on alarm protection with the battery removed.
Are 120 dB alarms really better than 85 or 100 dB alarms?
Not automatically. The figures are manufacturer claims measured under potentially different conditions. Distance, frequency, enclosure and the surrounding environment affect practical loudness. Consider detection quality, physical resistance and false-alarm behavior rather than ranking solely by decibels.
Is Apple Find My enough to recover a stolen e-bike?
Knog Scout’s Apple Find My integration can provide useful community-assisted locating, especially in areas with many Apple devices, but it is not independent cellular GPS. It also requires iOS. Use it as a recovery layer behind a physical lock and consider a cellular tracker for a particularly valuable bike.
Which alarms work with Android?
Monimoto and Invoxia support iOS and Android. ABUS SmartX uses the ABUS One app on iOS and Android. Bosch requires the eBike Flow app and a compatible Bosch smart-system bike. Knog Scout is iOS-only and should not be recommended to Android users.
Should a tracker be visible or hidden?
A visible tracker can deter some thieves but is easier to remove. A concealed tracker usually improves recovery prospects, provided it still receives GPS and cellular signals. Avoid placing it inside a metal enclosure, test its location performance and consider using separate locations for an alarm and tracker.
Can a disc lock prevent a motorcycle from being carried away?
No. A disc lock stops or restricts wheel rotation but does not attach the motorcycle to a fixed object. Two people can lift it into a van. For overnight or high-risk parking, use a chain through the frame connected to a ground anchor, with the disc lock as an additional alarm layer.
How do I stop false alarms?
Test the device in its real parking environment and reduce sensitivity until it ignores wind, loose covers and incidental contact while still detecting lifting, rolling or tampering. Use Bosch Transport mode during transport, and avoid setting a motorcycle perimeter sensor too sensitively near pedestrians or other vehicles.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat is the most important Monimoto setup rule?
Keep the paired key fob on your person and separate from the motorcycle keys. If the fob is left with the motorcycle, in a jacket or bag stored on it, Monimoto may interpret unauthorized movement as authorized and fail to begin its alert sequence.
The Bottom Line
Buy the product that matches the protection layer you are missing. Choose ABUS SmartX 770A for an alarmed e-bike lock, Bosch eBike Alarm for a compatible Bosch smart-system bike, ABUS 8077 2.0 for a substantial motorcycle alarm disc lock, or Scorpio SRX-900 for a hardwired motorcycle system. Choose Monimoto 9 or Invoxia Pro Max when phone alerts and recovery tracking matter most.
For meaningful protection, combine the alarm with a hardened mechanical lock attached to a fixed object, then add a concealed tracker for recovery. No siren, app or GPS device is theft-proof, but layered security makes the bike harder to steal, increases the chance that someone notices tampering and gives you better information if the physical defenses fail.
