The 15 all-terrain vehicles that are as crazy as they are powerful are not one neat class: SHERP N 1200 and ARGO Frontier 650 8×8 float, Can-Am Maverick R makes 240 hp, and Polaris RZR Pro R Factory offers up to 255 hp in a race-only package. The right machine depends on terrain, payload, passengers, and legal use—not horsepower alone.

Some entries are conventional ATVs, some are side-by-sides, and others are amphibious XTVs or specialized personnel carriers. Treat the list as a comparison of extreme off-road capability, not a universal performance ranking.

Key takeaways

  • The SHERP N 1200 is the most reality-defying machine here, combining a 55-hp diesel engine with amphibious operation, 25-mph land speed, 4-mph water speed, and a 2,640-lb load capacity.
  • The Polaris RZR Pro R Factory has the highest listed output in this selection at up to 255 hp, but Polaris identifies the vehicle as being for racing application only.
  • The Can-Am Defender 6×6 is the strongest practical work platform in the group, with 82 hp, 3,000 lb of towing capacity, and 1,200 lb of payload in the documented HD10 specification.
  • The Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 is an ATV-style alternative to a side-by-side, combining a saddle seat with 44 hp, 1,500 lb of towing capacity, and a standard 3,500-lb winch.
  • The Honda Talon 1000R is not the horsepower leader, but its 17.6 inches of front travel and 20.1 inches of rear travel make suspension performance its defining strength.
  • SHERP, ARGO, and Gibbs Terraquad are amphibious platforms; flotation and water propulsion do not remove the need to follow manufacturer limits, use safety equipment, and assess water conditions.

What makes these all-terrain vehicles so extreme?

The phrase all-terrain vehicle covers several very different designs in this roundup. A conventional ATV uses a saddle seat and handlebar controls, a UTV or side-by-side uses a steering wheel and seats arranged within a cabin, an XTV such as the ARGO is built for amphibious terrain, and a personnel carrier such as the FAT TRUCK is an industrial platform rather than a recreational trail ATV.

That distinction matters because horsepower is only one form of capability. A 240-hp sport side-by-side is built to accelerate across open terrain, while a 55-hp amphibious vehicle may be far more useful in a marsh, flood-prone worksite, or snow-covered wilderness. Six-wheel drivetrains, low-pressure tires, flotation, suspension travel, payload, towing, and recovery equipment can matter more than engine output.

Capability Representative machine Why the capability matters
Amphibious mobility SHERP N 1200, ARGO Frontier 650 8×8, Gibbs Terraquad These platforms are designed to transition beyond ordinary dry-land trail use.
Six-wheel utility Can-Am Defender 6×6, Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 Additional wheels can improve traction, load distribution, and utility packaging.
Maximum listed horsepower Polaris RZR Pro R Factory Up to 255 hp is aimed at race performance, not ordinary utility work.
Long-travel suspension Honda Talon 1000R 17.6 inches of front travel and 20.1 inches of rear travel help the chassis manage large terrain inputs.
Industrial specialization FAT TRUCK 2.8 Personnel Carrier Arctic The vehicle is engineered as a personnel-carrier platform for harsh operating conditions.

Which all-terrain vehicles can drive on water?

SHERP N 1200, ARGO Frontier 650 8×8, and Gibbs Terraquad are the clearest water-capable entries, but they use different approaches to amphibious travel.

1. SHERP N 1200: the amphibious machine that looks impossible

The SHERP N 1200 is the best answer to the question, What is the craziest ATV you can buy?—provided the question means the most visually and mechanically unconventional machine rather than the fastest one. SHERP USA describes the N 1200 as an amphibious vehicle with a sealed compact chassis, enormous low-pressure tires, and tire-based water propulsion.

According to SHERP USA’s current SHERP N 1200 product page, the machine has a 55-hp diesel engine, a maximum land speed of 25 mph, a maximum water speed of 4 mph, 26 inches of ground clearance, a 35-degree hill-climbing capacity, and a 2,640-lb load capacity. Those figures explain the N 1200’s appeal: the vehicle is not trying to beat a sport side-by-side in a drag race. The vehicle is trying to keep moving when ordinary tires, axles, and bodywork run out of options.

The SHERP’s low-pressure tires are central to the design. Large, deformable tires spread the vehicle’s weight over soft ground, while the sealed body provides flotation. Water speed is modest, but the ability to move across water and then continue over mud, snow, rocks, or uneven ground is the unusual capability that makes the N 1200 stand out.

2. ARGO Frontier 650 8×8: eight wheels as a complete system

The ARGO Frontier 650 8×8 is an amphibious XTV, not simply an ATV with two extra wheels. ARGO describes a floating one-piece lower body, eight 24-inch low-pressure tires with paddle-style tread, and a V-twin engine intended to move the vehicle through water and difficult terrain.

ARGO’s design philosophy is captured in the manufacturer’s line, GO NOWHERE. THEN TURN LEFT. The slogan is marketing language, but the product architecture behind it is concrete: eight contact patches, low-pressure tires, a floating lower body, and tread designed to help move the vehicle in water. ARGO’s Frontier 650 8×8 product page is the appropriate reference for the vehicle’s current configuration and equipment.

The Frontier 650 8×8 is the clearest example of wheel count becoming a capability system rather than a styling decision. The additional wheels can distribute weight over soft terrain, maintain contact across irregular ground, and provide propulsion options that a conventional four-wheel ATV does not have.

3. Gibbs Terraquad: amphibious transformation rather than simple flotation

The Gibbs Terraquad represents a different amphibious idea: a platform that changes its land-and-water configuration during the transition. Gibbs Amphibians lists an electrically actuated suspension-retraction system as part of the Terraquad’s design.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The important comparison is transformation. A conventional ATV can be equipped for mud or snow, but the Terraquad is designed around the idea that the vehicle’s wheels or propulsion arrangement should be retracted or altered when the machine enters water. Gibbs Amphibians’ Terraquad product page should be consulted for the current platform description; this article does not assign an unverified top-speed or payload figure to the vehicle.

Amphibious capability is not a blanket invitation to enter any body of water. Operators still need the manufacturer’s instructions, applicable load and water-condition limits, personal flotation equipment where appropriate, and a recovery plan.

Which six-wheel ATV is best for work?

The Can-Am Defender 6×6 is the strongest utility answer in this selection by published towing and payload figures, while the Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 is the more distinctive choice for someone who wants a saddle-seat ATV rather than a side-by-side. The Defender 6×6 Limited adds comfort and equipment without becoming a separate vehicle family.

Machine Vehicle format Drive and utility figures Recovery or comfort equipment
Can-Am Defender 6×6 HD10 Six-wheel utility side-by-side 82 hp; selectable 4WD/6WD; 3,000-lb towing capacity; 1,200-lb payload capacity XT and Limited variants include a 4,500-lb synthetic-cable winch
Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 Six-wheel saddle-seat ATV 44 hp; one-touch on-demand AWD/4WD; 1,500-lb towing capacity; 1,115-lb payload capacity; 11.5 inches of ground clearance Standard 3,500-lb winch with synthetic rope
Can-Am Defender 6×6 Limited Six-wheel luxury-workhorse side-by-side 82 hp; selectable 4WD/6WD; 3,000-lb towing capacity; 1,200-lb payload capacity HVAC, full glass windshield, power tilt bed, 30-inch tires, and a 4,500-lb winch

4. Can-Am Defender 6×6: the six-wheel workhorse

The Can-Am Defender 6×6 turns an ATV-like footprint into a genuine working platform. The side-by-side layout provides room for occupants and cargo, while the sixth wheel is useful for traction, load support, and moving through terrain where a heavily loaded four-wheel machine may struggle.

According to BRP and Can-Am’s 2026 Defender 6×6 specification, the HD10 configuration uses an 82-hp, 976cc Rotax V-twin and offers selectable 4WD/6WD, 3,000 lb of towing capacity, and 1,200 lb of payload capacity. The figures make the Defender 6×6 the practical heavy-duty choice in this list, although towing and payload limits still depend on the exact trim, equipment, terrain, and operating conditions.

Can-Am’s description, Six wheels, unlimited potential, is promotional language, not an independent test result. The useful part of the claim is the underlying design logic: the Defender 6×6 prioritizes traction and work capacity over the high-speed spectacle of a Maverick R or RZR.

5. Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570: the saddle-seat alternative

The Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 is the right comparison when a buyer wants six-wheel utility without moving into a side-by-side cabin. The rider sits astride the machine and uses handlebar controls, preserving the compact, direct feel associated with an ATV.

According to Polaris’s 2026 Sportsman 6×6 570 specification, the ATV uses a 567cc single-cylinder engine rated at 44 hp, one-touch on-demand AWD/4WD, 1,500 lb of towing capacity, 1,115 lb of payload capacity, and 11.5 inches of ground clearance. Polaris also lists a standard 3,500-lb winch with synthetic rope.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Sportsman and Defender are not interchangeable just because both have six wheels. The Polaris favors a single-rider ATV package and direct trail access, while the Can-Am favors occupants, cargo, and worksite practicality. The better machine depends first on seating and packaging, then on the published capacity figures.

6. Can-Am Defender 6×6 Limited: climate-controlled absurdity

The Defender 6×6 Limited is the luxury-workhorse version of the same basic six-wheel concept. The unusual combination is not just six wheels and heavy-duty capability; the Limited configuration adds an enclosed comfort package to a platform designed for towing, payload, and recovery.

Can-Am lists the Defender 6×6 Limited with 82 hp, selectable 4WD/6WD, 3,000 lb of towing capacity, 1,200 lb of payload capacity, 30-inch tires, a power tilt bed, HVAC, a full glass windshield, and a 4,500-lb winch. The 2026 Defender specification page is the source for the configuration details.

The Limited makes sense for long workdays, cold weather, or buyers who want a more protected cabin. The Limited should still be treated as a Defender 6×6 configuration, not as an unrelated fifteenth platform.

Which side-by-side has the most horsepower?

In this 15-vehicle selection, the Polaris RZR Pro R Factory has the highest listed output at up to 255 hp, followed by the 240-hp Can-Am Maverick R. The comparison is not an industry-wide horsepower ranking because manufacturers do not publish every engine under one universal test protocol.

Machine Published power or configuration Design emphasis Important qualification
Polaris RZR Pro R Factory 225 hp or 255 hp race-tuned ProStar Fury 2.0 engine Race-spec chassis, 74-inch width, 17.5-inch clearance, six-point harnesses, and fire suppression Polaris identifies it as For Racing Application Only.
Can-Am Maverick R 240-hp Rotax 999T turbocharged three-cylinder Liquid cooling with integrated intercooler and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission Can-Am calls the engine the most powerful SxS engine around; that is a manufacturer claim.
Polaris RZR Pro R Standard production Pro R performance platform Bridge between ordinary recreational side-by-sides and the race-oriented Factory version Do not merge the standard Pro R with the race-only Pro R Factory.
Can-Am Maverick X3 Established turbocharged sport side-by-side family Performance-focused lineup covering different high-performance uses Trim-specific output varies; no current X3 horsepower figure is quoted here.

7. Can-Am Maverick R: 240 hp with the hardware to use it

The Can-Am Maverick R is the headline horsepower machine for buyers who want extreme acceleration and high-speed off-road performance in a side-by-side package.

Can-Am’s 2024 Maverick R product information lists a 240-hp Rotax 999T turbocharged three-cylinder engine, liquid cooling with an integrated intercooler, and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Can-Am’s 2024 Maverick R page provides the model-year source for those specifications.

The significant point is not the number alone. A 240-hp side-by-side needs a drivetrain, cooling system, suspension, tires, chassis, and brakes capable of managing the output. Can-Am describes the engine as the most powerful SxS engine around; that wording should remain attributed to Can-Am rather than presented as an independently verified market ranking.

8. Polaris RZR Pro R Factory: a race machine with a license-plate-sized warning label

The Polaris RZR Pro R Factory is a factory-built race-oriented side-by-side, not merely a powerful recreational trim. Polaris lists a race-tuned ProStar Fury 2.0 engine in either 225-hp or 255-hp form, depending on configuration.

According to Polaris’s 2025 RZR Pro R Factory product page, the machine is 74 inches wide, has 17.5 inches of ground clearance, and includes race-focused construction and equipment such as six-point harnesses and fire suppression. Polaris labels the vehicle For Racing Application Only.

That designation changes the buying decision. Buyers must not assume that the race equipment, width, operating requirements, transport needs, or legal status of the Pro R Factory match those of a recreational trail side-by-side.

9. Polaris RZR Pro R: the production bridge

The standard Polaris RZR Pro R belongs between ordinary production side-by-sides and the Factory race package. Polaris identified the 2025 production RZR Pro R as a 225-hp model at launch, but the standard Pro R and Pro R Factory should not be treated as the same vehicle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The production version is the more relevant comparison for a buyer seeking serious performance without automatically selecting a race-oriented package. Model-year equipment, availability, and legal status can change, so the specific vehicle configuration should be checked before purchase.

10. Can-Am Maverick X3: the established turbo sport family

The Can-Am Maverick X3 is the established high-performance family in this group, positioned around turbocharged sport side-by-sides, acceleration, and off-road performance. The Maverick X3 is useful editorially because it shows that the Maverick R did not appear in a vacuum; Can-Am has long offered a performance family with multiple configurations for different kinds of sport driving.

Trim-specific output, suspension equipment, width, and pricing vary across the X3 family. The current X3 configuration should therefore be compared by exact trim rather than by the family name alone. This article does not attach an outdated horsepower figure to the whole X3 range.

Which all-terrain vehicle has the best suspension and control?

The Honda Talon 1000R is the suspension specialist in this selection, while the Talon 1000R-4 FOX Live Valve extends the same performance philosophy to four occupants. The Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000 represents the more family-oriented adventure approach.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

11. Honda Talon 1000R: travel instead of headline horsepower

The Honda Talon 1000R is the counterpoint to horsepower-led machines such as the Maverick R and RZR Pro R. Honda’s engineering emphasis is long-travel suspension, predictable control, and a six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission.

According to American Honda’s 2025 Talon 1000R specification, the vehicle uses a 999cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, independent double-wishbone front suspension with 17.6 inches of travel, and four-link trailing-arm rear suspension with 20.1 inches of travel. Honda’s direct-drive DCT architecture provides a useful technical contrast with belt-driven continuously variable transmissions, but one transmission design should not be declared universally superior without matching the use case.

Long suspension travel does not make the Talon invulnerable. Suspension geometry, damping, tire choice, driver inputs, ground clearance, and speed all affect how the vehicle handles rocks, whoops, jumps, and ruts.

12. Honda Talon 1000R-4 FOX Live Valve: long travel with four seats

The Honda Talon 1000R-4 FOX Live Valve adapts the Talon performance platform for four people. The four-seat format adds passenger capacity and a longer wheelbase while retaining the sport-oriented controls and long-travel architecture associated with the Talon line.

Honda’s current Talon product information lists the 1000R-4 as a related model with a 118.7-inch wheelbase and FOX Live Valve equipment. Honda’s Talon product page is the source for the platform relationship and equipment reference.

The 1000R-4 is a good example of the compromise involved in carrying more people off-road. Four seats improve group usability, but the longer vehicle must be considered when navigating tight turns, loading a trailer, or approaching abrupt terrain changes.

13. Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000: the family-adventure extreme

The Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000 represents the family-adventure end of extreme off-road engineering. Yamaha announced the RMAX4 1000 as a four-seat adventure side-by-side for the 2025 model year.

Yamaha’s August 7, 2024 announcement establishes the model-year positioning and four-seat adventure role. The RMAX4 belongs in this list because extreme terrain is not only about racing or industrial rescue; a vehicle can be ambitious because it combines family seating, trail capability, and adventure-focused packaging.

Exact RMAX4 horsepower, suspension travel, width, equipment, and price should be verified against the selected model-year specification before publication or purchase. This roundup avoids assigning unconfirmed figures to the model.

Which conventional ATV brings the most engine to the trail?

The Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS is the traditional high-displacement utility ATV here, placing a large V-twin, selectable four-wheel drive, and serious towing ability into a conventional four-wheel, saddle-seat format.

14. Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS: the big V-twin ATV

The Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS is “crazy” in a more familiar way than the amphibious vehicles and race side-by-sides. The machine takes the classic ATV formula and gives it a large-displacement V-twin, electronic power steering, and utility-oriented driveline equipment.

According to Kawasaki’s 2023 Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS specification sheet, the ATV has a liquid-cooled 749cc V-twin, selectable 2WD/4WD with a variable front differential lock, electronic power steering, 42.7 lb-ft of maximum torque, and 1,250 lb of towing capacity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Brute Force is the sensible choice for a rider who wants direct ATV control and a strong utility drivetrain without moving to the width, passenger capacity, or transport demands of a side-by-side. The specification is from the 2023 model year, so current availability and equipment should be confirmed separately.

What is the FAT TRUCK, and is it really an ATV?

The FAT TRUCK 2.8 Personnel Carrier Arctic is not a conventional recreational ATV; it is a purpose-built industrial or defense-style personnel-carrier platform for difficult terrain and harsh operating conditions.

15. FAT TRUCK 2.8 Personnel Carrier Arctic: an industrial extreme-terrain platform

The FAT TRUCK earns a place here because “all-terrain” can describe a specialized work or rescue platform as easily as it describes a trail machine. Its personnel-carrier configuration is designed around transporting people through difficult operating environments rather than delivering recreational speed or conventional ATV handling.

The manufacturer’s technical specification dated August 1, 2024 is the appropriate source for the platform’s exact technical data. The available research establishes the FAT TRUCK’s specialized personnel-carrier role but does not provide verified figures for horsepower, speed, payload, or water capability, so those numbers are intentionally not supplied here.

  • We use the planetary gear system, which can automatically brake, while we want to achieve the highest speed and a certain guarantee to provide safe and reliable power in any situation.

The FAT TRUCK should be evaluated like specialized equipment: intended mission, operator training, support network, transport, maintenance, and local procurement matter more than a simple comparison with a recreational ATV.

What recovery gear does an ATV or side-by-side need?

A winch can turn a stuck machine into a recoverable machine, but a winch is recovery equipment—not a substitute for training, rated anchor points, proper rigging, or a recovery plan. Compatibility matters more than choosing the largest-looking capacity.

Factory equipment illustrates the range. Can-Am lists a 4,500-lb synthetic-cable winch on XT and Limited Defender variants, while Polaris lists a standard 3,500-lb synthetic-rope winch on the Sportsman 6×6 570. Can-Am’s Defender specification and Polaris’s Sportsman specification document those factory references.

For a buyer researching an ATV winch, verify the mounting kit, vehicle-specific fit, electrical requirements, rated capacity, synthetic-rope or steel-cable configuration, fairlead, control location, and recovery points. A generic winch should not be assumed safe or compatible with every ATV, UTV, side-by-side, or amphibious vehicle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should you check before buying one of these machines?

The correct purchase decision starts with the vehicle’s mission, not the most dramatic horsepower number. The following checks separate a usable machine from an expensive mismatch.

  1. Match the terrain. Choose amphibious construction for repeated water and marsh use, low-pressure tires for soft ground, long-travel suspension for high-speed rough terrain, and a conventional utility ATV or side-by-side for ordinary trail and work duties.
  2. Choose the seating format. A saddle-seat ATV offers a narrower, more direct riding experience. A side-by-side carries occupants beside one another and usually offers more practical cargo and weather protection. A four-seat sport or adventure machine brings passengers but also adds length and weight.
  3. Separate payload from towing. A 3,000-lb towing rating does not mean the vehicle can carry 3,000 lb in its bed, and a payload rating includes the relevant occupants and cargo. Use the exact trim’s manual and specification sheet.
  4. Check the model year. The figures in this article span current 2026 listings, 2025 model-year products, a 2024 product page, a 2024 technical sheet, and a 2023 Kawasaki specification. Model-year equipment, prices, availability, and specifications can change.
  5. Confirm transport requirements. Width, wheelbase, weight, trailer capacity, tie-down points, and storage space can eliminate a machine before engine output becomes relevant. Race-oriented, eight-wheel, and personnel-carrier platforms may require much more specialized transport than a conventional ATV.
  6. Check legal status locally. Trail access, registration, licensing, insurance, noise rules, and road legality vary by jurisdiction. Polaris’s “For Racing Application Only” label is especially important for the RZR Pro R Factory.
  7. Plan recovery before the first trip. Check whether the vehicle has a factory winch, whether the winch is included on the selected trim, where recovery points are located, and what equipment and training are required for the terrain.
  8. Treat water as a separate risk. Amphibious operation still has load limits, water-condition limits, transition hazards, and recovery considerations. Flotation is not permission to enter unsafe or unknown water.

How should the 15 machines be ranked?

There is no honest single ranking because the machines solve different problems. The following decision guide is more useful than declaring one vehicle universally best.

If the priority is… Best fit from this list Why
Most reality-defying design SHERP N 1200 Amphibious operation, low-pressure tires, tire-based water propulsion, and a sealed body.
Eight-wheel amphibious mobility ARGO Frontier 650 8×8 Floating lower body, eight 24-inch low-pressure tires, and paddle-style tread.
Heavy utility towing and payload Can-Am Defender 6×6 HD10 82 hp, 3,000-lb towing capacity, and 1,200-lb payload capacity in the documented specification.
Six-wheel ATV packaging Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 Saddle-seat ATV format with 44 hp, 1,500-lb towing capacity, and a standard 3,500-lb winch.
Highest listed output in this selection Polaris RZR Pro R Factory Up to 255 hp, but the vehicle is identified as a race-only application.
Long-travel sport suspension Honda Talon 1000R 17.6 inches of front travel and 20.1 inches of rear travel.
Conventional big-engine ATV Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS 749cc V-twin, selectable 2WD/4WD, variable front differential lock, and 1,250-lb towing capacity.
Specialized personnel transport FAT TRUCK 2.8 Personnel Carrier Arctic Purpose-built industrial or defense-style platform rather than a recreational ATV.

The result is a more useful definition of powerful. The Maverick R and RZR Pro R Factory are powerful because they produce extreme engine output. The Defender 6×6 and Sportsman 6×6 are powerful because they put traction, towing, and payload into practical packages. SHERP, ARGO, and Terraquad are powerful because they expand where the vehicle can go. The Talon is powerful because suspension and control let its engine work across difficult terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the craziest ATV you can buy?

The SHERP N 1200 is the craziest all-terrain vehicle in this selection because it combines a sealed chassis, massive low-pressure tires, amphibious operation, and tire-based water propulsion. SHERP USA lists a 55-hp diesel engine, 25-mph land speed, 4-mph water speed, and 2,640-lb load capacity.

Which off-road vehicle has the most horsepower?

The Polaris RZR Pro R Factory has the highest listed output among the 15 vehicles at up to 255 hp, ahead of the 240-hp Can-Am Maverick R. Polaris identifies the RZR Pro R Factory as being for racing application only, and the comparison is not an industry-wide ranking.

Are there ATVs that can drive on water?

Yes, several all-terrain platforms can operate on water, including the SHERP N 1200, ARGO Frontier 650 8×8, and Gibbs Terraquad. Amphibious capability remains subject to manufacturer instructions, load limits, water conditions, recovery planning, and appropriate safety equipment.

What is the best 6×6 ATV?

The Can-Am Defender 6×6 is the strongest utility choice by the published figures in this selection, with 82 hp, 3,000 lb of towing capacity, and 1,200 lb of payload in the documented HD10 specification. The Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 is the better fit for a saddle-seat ATV format, with 44 hp and 1,500 lb of towing capacity.

What is the difference between an ATV, UTV, XTV, and side-by-side?

An ATV normally uses a saddle seat and handlebar controls, while a UTV or side-by-side uses a steering wheel and seats arranged within a cabin. An XTV such as the ARGO Frontier 650 8×8 is an amphibious extreme-terrain vehicle, and a FAT TRUCK personnel carrier is a specialized industrial platform rather than a conventional recreational ATV.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Polaris RZR Pro R Factory is the horsepower champion in this selection at up to 255 hp, but the SHERP N 1200 is the most unconventional and the Can-Am Defender 6×6 is the most convincing work machine. Choose by terrain, seating, payload, recovery needs, transport, and local legality before comparing horsepower.
