10 of the Lowest and Lightest Motorcycles for Shorter Riders

The Yamaha V Star 250 has the lowest seat in this comparison, while the Honda Grom is the lightest conventional manual motorcycle. Here are 10 practical options, plus fit and test-ride advice.

Short answer: The Yamaha V Star 250 has the lowest published seat height in this comparison at 27.0 inches, while the Honda Grom is the lightest conventional manual motorcycle at 224 pounds. For a low seat with more highway ability, the Honda Rebel 500 and Kawasaki Eliminator are the strongest all-around starting points. For riders who want a light, full-size standard motorcycle, the Honda CB300R is the better fit than a miniMOTO.

This is a practical shortlist, not a definitive fit ranking. A manufacturer’s seat-height number does not predict exactly how much of your foot will reach the ground. Seat width, fuel load, suspension sag, footwear, inseam, and whether you prefer stopping with one foot or both feet can make a major difference. Whenever possible, sit on and carefully test-ride the exact motorcycle and trim you are considering.

Specification note: The figures below are current U.S. manufacturer specifications available during the research pass. Weight means curb weight unless otherwise stated; Yamaha reports wet weight for the V Star 250 and Royal Enfield reports the Hunter 350 figure with 90% fuel and oil. ABS equipment, California equipment, transmission, trim, and model year can change a motorcycle’s weight slightly.

The 10 lowest and lightest motorcycles

1. Yamaha V Star 250

Seat height: 27.0 inches
Weight: 324 pounds wet; 326 pounds for the California model
Engine: 249cc V-twin

XFMT Motorcycle Low Profile Two-Piece 2-Up Driver Passenger Seat For Harley Touring Road King Street Glide Road Glide Electra Glide CVO 2009-2023,Red Stitching
  • FITMENT- This two-up motorcycle seat is designed to fit for '09-'23 Harley Touring models Road King, Road Glide, Street Glide, Electra Glide, etc (except 2023-later Electra Glide Highway King, CVO Street Glide, CVO Road Glide, Road Glide 3 model, 2024-later Street Glide, Road Glide and CVO Road Glide ST) . Does not fit Trike models. Seat width 15.0 inch
  • MATERIAL - Rider passenger touring seat made of premium PU leather + foam + iron + PP plastic, black finish with color-matched stitching, improve riding comfort and unique custom look for a long haul trip
  • STYLE - This Low-Profile touring seat combines street-rod style with a suprising touch of comfort, will set your custom bagger apart; Custom diamond-pleated seating surface highlighted with double-row toast-colored accent stitching
  • FEATURE - The rider seat features a tapered nose that brings the legs closer together to shorten the reach to the ground, add your choice of matching sissy bar pad and tour trunk backrest pad (sold separately)
  • NOTE - The comfort of this series of seats is relatively hard because it's low-profile design, which is closer to the ground, so if you are planning on a long trip, it is recommended to choose a long-distance seat with thicker filling.

The Yamaha V Star 250 has the lowest published seat height in this group. Its traditional cruiser layout combines a low saddle with a relatively manageable ready-to-ride weight, and Yamaha specifically positions the motorcycle as lightweight and nimble.

This is a good choice for a shorter rider who wants conventional full-size cruiser proportions rather than a miniMOTO. The low seat, relaxed styling, and narrow cruiser feel can make mounting, stopping, and parking less intimidating than the seat height of a standard or sport motorcycle might suggest.

The trade-off is the 249cc engine. It is well suited to urban riding and moderate-speed roads, but it is a better match for local use than for sustained high-speed touring. The California model adds a small amount of weight, so buyers in that state should use the 326-pound figure when comparing it with other motorcycles.

2. Honda Rebel 300

Seat height: 27.2 inches
Weight: 364 pounds curb weight for the 2025 manual model
Engine: 286cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder

The Honda Rebel 300 is one of the easiest mainstream manual motorcycles to screen for a shorter rider because its seat is only 27.2 inches high. Its slim cruiser layout also narrows the transition between the seat and tank, which can make the motorcycle feel more accessible than a wider machine with the same nominal seat height.

It suits newer riders who want a low-slung motorcycle, conventional clutch-and-gear operation, and less mass than many 500cc-or-larger bikes. The single-cylinder engine keeps the motorcycle approachable for city streets and everyday riding.

Pay close attention to the model year and transmission. The 364-pound figure applies to the 2025 manual model. Honda’s 2026 Rebel 300 E-Clutch listing gives that trim a 379-pound curb weight. Those figures should not be merged or presented as though they describe the same motorcycle.

3. Honda Rebel 500

Seat height: 27.2 inches
Weight: 414 pounds curb weight
Engine: 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin

The Honda Rebel 500 gives a shorter rider the same exceptionally low published seat height as the Rebel 300 while adding a much larger 471cc parallel-twin engine. That makes it one of the most compelling choices for someone who wants an approachable seat but does not want to move immediately into a small-displacement motorcycle.

Compared with the smaller Rebel, the 500 offers more useful reserve for highway riding and longer trips. Honda emphasizes the narrow seat-and-tank junction as well as the low seat height, and that combination is important: a narrow motorcycle can provide better reach than its seat-height figure alone would suggest.

  • 【Waterproof and Dirt Resistant】 - It can easily cope with various weather conditions. If there is dust or water drops, it can be kept clean by wiping with a rag

At 414 pounds ready to ride, however, the Rebel 500 is not a lightweight mini-bike. It is manageable for many riders, but a shorter rider should still check how easily they can hold it upright, back it out of a parking space, and recover it when it starts to lean. A very low seat does not eliminate the consequences of a heavy motorcycle.

4. Kawasaki Eliminator

Seat height: 28.9 inches
Weight: 385.9 pounds non-ABS or 388.1 pounds ABS
Engine: 451cc parallel twin

The Kawasaki Eliminator combines a sub-29-inch seat with a relatively low curb weight for a 451cc twin. Kawasaki identifies it as the lowest-seat model in its 250–500cc on-road range, making it a strong alternative to the Honda Rebel family.

It is a sensible choice for riders who want more performance than a 250cc cruiser while retaining an approachable seat. Its long, low chassis gives it the basic proportions many shorter riders seek, without the weight penalty common to larger middleweight motorcycles.

Do not compare it with the Rebel by seat height alone. The Eliminator’s 18-inch front wheel, cruiser geometry, handlebar reach, and footpeg position create a different riding position. A rider may reach the ground well but still find the bars or controls less natural. Sit on the exact trim, including ABS if that is the version you intend to buy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Honda Navi

Seat height: Verify Honda’s current detailed specification before publication or purchase
Weight: 234 pounds curb weight
Engine and transmission: Small-displacement air-cooled single-cylinder platform with automatic-style V-Matic transmission

The Honda Navi is one of the easiest motorcycles in this group to handle at walking speeds because it is exceptionally light and compact. Its mini-motorcycle format is particularly useful for urban errands, neighborhood riding, parking practice, and riders who would rather manage 234 pounds than a 350-to-400-pound motorcycle.

The automatic-style V-Matic transmission also removes clutch operation from the low-speed learning process. That can be useful for a rider whose primary concern is balance, steering, and stopping rather than learning every motorcycle control at once.

The Navi is not a direct substitute for a full-size highway motorcycle. Its small-displacement engine, compact dimensions, and limited high-speed usefulness make it best suited to local roads and urban environments. Honda’s current model page provides the model specification and curb weight, but the exact seat-height figure should be checked in the detailed specification sheet for the model year being purchased rather than guessed from its appearance.

6. Honda Grom

Seat height: 30.0 inches
Weight: 224 pounds for the standard 2026 model; 227 pounds for the ABS trim
Engine: 124cc air-cooled single-cylinder

XFMT Motorcycle Low Profile Two-Piece 2-Up Driver Passenger Seat For Harley Touring Road King Street Glide Road Glide Electra Glide CVO 2009-2023, Black Stitching

The Honda Grom is the lightest conventional manual motorcycle on this list. Its 30-inch seat is several inches taller than the V Star or Rebel, but the 224-pound standard curb weight makes it easy to balance, push, turn around, and recover at low speed for many riders.

That makes the Grom a good option for someone who wants to learn manual motorcycle controls without immediately managing 350 or 400 pounds. It is especially well suited to city riding, short commutes, and recreational back-road use where compact dimensions are an advantage.

Small wheels, modest engine capacity, minimal wind protection, and limited outright performance restrict the Grom on fast roads and long-distance trips. The low mass may compensate for the taller seat for some shorter riders, but a rider still needs to check the actual reach to the ground and the ability to support the bike during a stop.

7. Honda Monkey

Seat height: Honda’s current 2026 model information describes a low-seat-height design; verify the exact figure in the detailed specification before publication or purchase
Weight: 231 pounds curb weight
Engine: 124cc single-cylinder

The Honda Monkey uses the same general small-bike philosophy as the Grom but delivers a more relaxed, upright, and playful miniMOTO package. At 231 pounds, it remains very easy to maneuver compared with a full-size middleweight, and its compact proportions can give a shorter rider confidence in parking lots and low-speed turns.

Choose the Monkey when physical manageability and recreational urban riding matter more than highway stability or speed. It is also a legitimate alternative to the Grom for riders who prefer a more upright seating position and less conventional sport-bike styling.

The compact format can feel cramped for taller riders, while the small wheels and 124cc engine make it unsuitable as a replacement for a full-size motorcycle on fast roads or long trips. As with the Navi, do not publish or rely on an assumed seat-height number when the exact current figure has not been confirmed from Honda’s detailed specification sheet.

8. Honda CB300R

Seat height: 31.6 inches
Weight: 316 pounds curb weight
Engine: 286cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder

The Honda CB300R is the best candidate here for a rider who wants a light, normal-size standard motorcycle rather than a cruiser or miniMOTO. It has standard motorcycle wheels, six-speed gearing, ABS, and an upright road-bike layout while weighing only 316 pounds.

Honda describes the curb weight as user-friendly for balancing at stops and in parking lots. That low mass can make the CB300R easier to manage than its 31.6-inch seat height suggests, particularly for a rider who is comfortable using one foot down at stops.

  • Premium Quality: PU & Microfiber Leather+Foam+PP Plastic
  • Package include: 1x Rider Passenger Seat with Backrest (As the Picture Shown)

It is not a low-seat motorcycle in the same sense as the V Star or Rebel. A shorter rider may fit it through its narrowness and light weight rather than by flat-footing both sides. The difference between a confident one-foot stop and an awkward tiptoe should be assessed in person before purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. Kawasaki Ninja 500

Seat height: 30.9 inches
Weight: 372.6 pounds non-ABS or 377.1 pounds ABS for the 50-state model
Engine: 451cc parallel twin

The Kawasaki Ninja 500 is the sport-bike choice in this group. Its 30.9-inch seat is below 31 inches, and its 451cc parallel twin provides considerably more road and highway capability than the miniMOTOs or small cruisers.

It gives shorter riders a way into a faired motorcycle without immediately choosing the taller and heavier dimensions associated with many larger supersports. The listed weight is also competitive for an approachable middleweight sport motorcycle.

Sport-bike ergonomics can change the fit substantially. The tank area may feel wider, the handlebars are farther forward, and the controls encourage a more forward-leaning posture than the Rebels, V Star, or Hunter. A rider who can touch the ground may still find the reach or stopping position uncomfortable, so evaluate the entire riding triangle rather than the seat-height number alone.

10. Royal Enfield Hunter 350

Seat height: 31.1 inches
Weight: 399 pounds with 90% fuel and oil
Engine: 349cc air-oil-cooled single-cylinder

The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is not one of the absolute lightest motorcycles here, but its low-31-inch seat, compact roadster dimensions, relatively narrow proportions, and manageable low-speed character make it a credible shorter-rider option.

It is aimed at riders who want retro styling and a more substantial standard motorcycle than a Grom, Navi, or Monkey. Royal Enfield highlights the Hunter’s maneuverability and standover ergonomics, which are useful considerations for a shorter rider even though the motorcycle weighs 399 pounds.

That weight places it behind the Honda miniMOTOs, CB300R, V Star 250, and Kawasaki models for pure lightness. Think of the Hunter as a balanced, low-ish roadster rather than a featherweight. Its appeal is the combination of proportions, styling, and everyday road use—not a class-leading weight figure.

Which motorcycle is the best choice?

  • Lowest seat: Choose the Yamaha V Star 250 if the 27.0-inch seat is your first screening priority.
  • Lowest seat with a mainstream twin-cylinder engine: The Honda Rebel 500 and Rebel 300 both have 27.2-inch seats. The 500 is the more flexible choice for riders who expect to use highways; the 300 keeps the engine and purchase experience more approachable.
  • Low seat with a Kawasaki engine: The Eliminator sits below 29 inches and offers more displacement than the small cruisers, with a riding position distinct from the Rebels.
  • Lightest manual motorcycle: The Honda Grom weighs 224 pounds in standard 2026 form. It is the easiest conventional manual bike here to push and maneuver, but not the best choice for fast roads.
  • Lightest automatic-style option: The Honda Navi weighs 234 pounds and is particularly suited to urban errands and low-speed practice.
  • Best light full-size standard: The Honda CB300R weighs 316 pounds and provides standard motorcycle proportions, six-speed gearing, and ABS, but its 31.6-inch seat requires a more careful fit check.
  • Best faired option: The Kawasaki Ninja 500 offers a sub-31-inch seat and substantially more highway ability than the miniMOTOs, though its sport-bike ergonomics can complicate reach.
  • Best retro roadster option: The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 has useful roadster proportions and retro styling, provided you accept its 399-pound listed weight.

How to judge fit beyond seat height

Seat width can matter as much as the number

Seat height is measured from the ground to the seat, but a rider’s legs must spread around the seat, tank, and side panels. A narrow seat can let the legs drop more vertically and improve reach. A wide cruiser or sport-bike seat can feel taller even when the specification is identical.

Weight matters most when the motorcycle is moving slowly

Once a motorcycle is rolling, its weight is less noticeable than it is during a tight U-turn, a stop on a slope, or a parking maneuver. Consider whether you can comfortably hold the bike upright, walk it backward, turn it around without power, and catch it if it begins to lean. The published weight generally includes fuel and operating fluids, but trim and regional equipment can change the number.

Decide how you will stop

A shorter rider does not need to flat-foot both feet to operate a motorcycle safely. Many experienced riders stop with one foot firmly planted while keeping the other foot on the brake or gear lever as appropriate. What matters is that the technique feels deliberate and repeatable rather than a last-second reach for the ground.

During a test ride or static fit check, try both sides of the motorcycle. Check a normal stop, a sloped stop, a tight turn, and a stop with the front wheel pointed slightly off-center. Also check whether you can reach the clutch, brake, and handlebar comfortably without sliding forward on the seat.

Fit adjustments: what to do before lowering a motorcycle

A model-specific low seat is generally a more conservative first step than installing indiscriminate lowering links. Lowering suspension can change cornering clearance, suspension geometry, ground clearance, and side-stand angle. It may also affect how the motorcycle behaves under braking and cornering.

If suspension changes are necessary, use parts compatible with the exact motorcycle and have them installed and checked according to the manufacturer’s or a qualified technician’s instructions. Verify that the side stand still supports the lowered motorcycle at a safe angle, and make sure the suspension retains appropriate travel and clearance.

A practical test-fit checklist

  1. Wear the gear you will actually use. Test in motorcycle boots and riding clothing rather than casual shoes that may change your reach.
  2. Check the seat-to-ground reach. Try both feet, then try a one-foot stop with the other foot positioned naturally on the control.
  3. Check the seat and tank width. Notice whether the seat forces your legs outward or lets them fall nearly straight down.
  4. Move the motorcycle with the engine off. Walk it backward, push it out of a parking space, and perform a slow turn.
  5. Test slopes. A motorcycle that feels easy on level pavement may feel very different when stopping uphill or placing a foot on uneven ground.
  6. Check the controls. Make sure the clutch, brake lever, gear lever, and rear brake are reachable without an awkward stretch.
  7. Assess the full ride, not just the first stop. Handlebar reach, peg position, wind protection, steering effort, and visibility all influence confidence.
  8. Confirm the exact trim. ABS, E-Clutch, California equipment, luggage, and accessories can affect weight and sometimes ergonomics.

What these numbers do—and do not—tell you

The lowest seat is not automatically the easiest motorcycle. The V Star 250 and Rebels lead on published seat height, but the Grom, Monkey, Navi, and CB300R can be easier to move because they are much lighter. Conversely, a low motorcycle that feels heavy when it begins to tip may be more difficult than a taller but lighter machine.

Engine size also changes the decision. The Grom, Monkey, and Navi are physically manageable but are designed around urban, neighborhood, or recreational use rather than sustained high-speed travel. The Rebel 500, Eliminator, and Ninja 500 offer more highway flexibility, but they also carry roughly 370 to 414 pounds ready to ride. The Hunter 350 occupies a middle ground as a compact roadster with a more substantial feel and a 399-pound listed weight.

Use the specifications to narrow the list, then validate the fit on the exact motorcycle. That is more reliable than selecting a bike solely because a chart says its seat is below a particular number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do shorter riders need to flat-foot both feet on a motorcycle?

No. Many riders use a controlled one-foot stop, keeping the other foot on the appropriate control. The important test is whether you can place one foot firmly, keep the motorcycle balanced, and handle slopes and parking maneuvers confidently. Flat-footing both feet can be reassuring, but it is not the only safe fit criterion.

Is a lower motorcycle always better for a shorter rider?

No. Seat width, tank shape, handlebar reach, footpeg position, suspension sag, and overall weight also affect fit. A narrow 31-inch seat may be easier for one rider than a wide 29-inch seat, while a 224-pound motorcycle may be easier to catch and push than a 400-pound motorcycle with a lower saddle.

Why are exact seat heights not listed for the Honda Navi and Monkey here?

The research used for this comparison confirmed their compact, low-seat-height formats and weights, but the current detailed Honda specification figures should be checked before publication or purchase. It is better to verify the exact model-year number than to repeat a potentially stale figure.

Should I lower a motorcycle if I cannot reach comfortably?

First check whether a model-specific low seat, correct suspension setup, or appropriate riding boots solves the problem. Lowering links and other suspension changes can affect geometry, cornering clearance, suspension travel, and side-stand angle. Any modification should be compatible with the exact model and installed or checked by a qualified technician.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Start with the Yamaha V Star 250 or either Honda Rebel if absolute seat height is the priority. Choose the Honda Grom, Monkey, or Navi when minimum mass and low-speed maneuverability matter most. For a more capable road motorcycle, compare the Rebel 500, Kawasaki Eliminator, Honda CB300R, and Ninja 500 in person—because the best motorcycle for a shorter rider is the one whose seat, controls, weight, and stopping technique all feel manageable together.
