The ZUV (Zero Emission Utility Vehicle) is a cargo-trike design concept with a body robotically 3D-printed from recycled polypropylene. EOOS / EOOS NEXT developed it with Rotterdam-based The New Raw. It was presented as an exhibition prototype, not a documented retail vehicle: the available sources do not establish that it is for sale, approved for road use, or in production.
What is the ZUV electric cargo trike?
ZUV stands for Zero Emission Utility Vehicle. EOOS describes it as a circular-design concept for an electrically powered cargo bike, made using decentralized fabrication. The MAK commissioned the project for the Climate Care exhibition at the 2021 Vienna Biennale for Change. EOOS says it was also shown in the start-up area at IAA Mobility in Munich in 2022. EOOS’s project page describes the concept and its fabrication.
The design uses three wheels and places a cargo box at the front, with seating for two at the rear, according to Designboom’s 2021 report. New Atlas describes a rear hub motor, front-wheel steering, disc brakes, integrated lights and throttle-only operation without pedals. These are descriptions of the concept, not a verified production specification. New Atlas’s 2021 coverage provides those details.
How was its body 3D-printed?
The New Raw produced the body with a robot converted from automotive manufacturing into a 3D printer. EOOS says printing the self-supporting body took nine hours. The concept uses recycled polypropylene (PP), and its body was printed in angled layers; coverage says the orientation was intended to reduce support material. EOOS describes the robot and print time, while New Atlas reports the angled print orientation.

Published accounts disagree on the amount of recycled plastic, so the figures should not be treated as a single confirmed specification:
- New Atlas reported that 70 kg of supermarket plastic waste was used for the body, seating and cargo box.
- Expo Office Austria’s project profile reported 80 kg of recycled plastic for the bike. The profile’s publication date is not shown in the available record.
The sources do not explain the difference between these totals or provide a primary bill of materials.

What speed, range and carrying capacity were reported?
Figures published in 2021 describe the concept and are not independently verified production specifications. New Atlas and Designboom each reported a top speed of 25 km/h and a range of 50 km. New Atlas listed a 100 kg unladen weight and a 300 kg maximum laden weight. New Atlas also reported dimensions of 62 × 190 × 55 cm.
There is a separate, differently worded capacity figure: Inceptive Mind reported a 200 kg payload in 2021. A payload and a maximum laden weight are not equivalent measures, and the reports do not provide enough detail to reconcile them. The available sources also do not state battery capacity, charging time or motor power, or provide independent test results. Designboom independently reported the speed and range figures.

Can you buy the ZUV, and is it road-approved?
The documented appearances are exhibitions, not evidence of a retail launch. The sources reviewed do not establish a production run, current availability, licensing or road approval. They also do not identify a jurisdiction-specific vehicle classification. Treat ZUV as a design proposal unless a current manufacturer or project-owner announcement confirms otherwise.

Local fabrication and service are part of the concept: EOOS proposes using components available through local bicycle or motorbike workshops, while the plastic body could be shredded and reprinted in a local production cycle. Expo Office Austria’s profile also describes reprocessing the body. These are design aims, not proof of an operating service network, demonstrated repair process or established recycling route.

The project’s name includes “Zero Emission,” but the available sources do not provide a ZUV-specific lifecycle assessment or measured environmental-impact results. Recycled feedstock and a reprintable body are material and manufacturing proposals; by themselves, they do not establish the vehicle’s total environmental footprint.
