On a 2020 Zero SR/F, Charge Target is the battery’s maximum state of charge (SoC), adjustable from 0% to 100%. It limits how full the pack becomes; it does not set charging speed. If Charge Target is disabled, the motorcycle is set to charge to 100% when charging is allowed to finish. A separate Delay/Scheduled charging program takes priority: when its End Charging time arrives, charging stops even if the target percentage has not been reached.
The menu path and behavior below are scoped to the 2020 SR/F owner’s manual. Zero provides manuals by model year and market through its official owner resources, and labels or available functions can differ on another year or in another region.

What Charge Target controls
Charge Target is a ceiling for SoC. The 2020 manual states: The Charge Target value is a percentage and can be set from 0-100.
Selecting a percentage tells the charging system to stop at that level when no higher-priority scheduled cutoff ends the session first. It is not a current, voltage, kilowatt, or miles-per-hour setting, so changing it does not by itself make the SR/F charge faster or slower.
The practical behavior is:

A target of 100% and a disabled target can produce the same final SoC, but the enabled setting makes the ceiling explicit. A very low target is also valid; setting 0% does not mean the pack will be filled and then stopped, so check the value carefully before starting a session.

Check your model year and region first
Use the manual for the motorcycle’s exact year and market before following menu instructions. Zero’s owner portal includes model-year selections, manuals, charging information, and dealer or service resources: https://zeromotorcycles.com/en-us/owners. Connector types, installed charging hardware, app screens, and electrical requirements can vary by region and configuration. The steps in the next section are specifically the sequence documented for the 2020 SR/F.
How to set Charge Target on a 2020 SR/F
Have the motorcycle stationary and use the bike’s own display. The 2020 manual begins the sequence from the Riding Screen with the Motor Stop switch in OFF and/or the kickstand down.
- Bring the display to the Riding Screen.
- Put the Motor Stop switch in OFF and/or put the kickstand down, as specified by the 2020 manual’s menu instructions.
- Open the motorcycle’s Main Menu.
- Choose Preferences.
- Open Battery.
- Select Charge Target.
- Choose Enabled if you want a percentage ceiling, or Disabled if you want the default 100% ceiling.
- When enabled, enter the desired percentage from 0 to 100 using the controls shown on the display.
- Leave the menu and connect the appropriate charging cable or station. Charging then follows the target unless an active schedule ends the session first.
The owner manual’s illustrated screens are the authority for the control used to confirm or edit the number. If your display does not show this route, do not assume the feature has been removed; first verify that you are using the manual for your model year and region.

How scheduled charging changes the result
On the 2020 SR/F, Delay/Scheduled charging settings are adjusted through the Zero Motorcycles smartphone application. The manual explicitly says that scheduled operation overrides Charge Target. If the target has not been reached by the programmed End Charging time, charging ceases at that time.
Think of the schedule as a hard time cutoff and Charge Target as a state-of-charge cutoff. Whichever applicable limit ends the session first determines the result. For example, if Charge Target is 90% but the schedule reaches its end time while the battery is at 76%, the motorcycle stops at 76%; that outcome indicates that the time limit won, not that the percentage control malfunctioned.
To diagnose an unexpectedly low final percentage, check the schedule in the app before changing the target. The current SR/F model page also describes app-based scheduled and target charging, but its interface may not match the 2020 application: https://zeromotorcycles.com/en-gb/model/zero-srf/. Use the app version and regional account supported for your motorcycle.
Why charging stopped before the target
A lower-than-expected SoC is usually explained by one of the limits or conditions documented for the SR/F rather than by a failed target setting. Work through these checks in order.

1. A scheduled End Charging time was reached
Open the Zero app and inspect Delay/Scheduled charging. If it is enabled, compare the stopping time with the programmed end. A stop at that time is expected even when the Charge Target percentage is higher.
2. The selected target is lower than you intended
Return to Preferences > Battery > Charge Target on a 2020 bike and verify both the Enabled/Disabled state and the numeric value. A target is a maximum, so the pack will not continue above it to reach 100% unless you disable the target or set a higher value.
3. Charging did not remain available until completion
The manual’s 100% default assumes charging is allowed to complete. A disconnected cable, an unavailable station, an interrupted domestic supply, or an electrical protection event can end a session independently of Charge Target. Reconnect only after checking the outlet, cable, and charging equipment for the conditions specified by their manufacturers.

4. The motorcycle’s charging hardware or supply is limiting the session
Charge time and the ability to deliver energy depend on the connected cable, equipment installed on the motorcycle, and the supply’s voltage, current, or power rating. A lower-power source can take longer than expected; it does not imply that the percentage limit is inaccurate.

5. You are applying 2020 instructions to a different bike
Later model years and different markets can use different display labels, app behavior, connectors, or charger options. Identify the VIN/model year and consult the matching manual in Zero’s owner portal before treating a missing menu as a fault.

The SR/F can be charged with a portable EVSE connected to a suitable domestic outlet or through a fixed or public charging station, depending on the motorcycle’s installed equipment and the infrastructure available where you ride. The 2020 manual does not support a universal charger recommendation: connector standards and electrical supplies vary by region, and SR/F configurations can differ.

If you are considering a portable EVSE charger for an electric motorcycle, verify all of the following before purchase:
- Your SR/F model year and regional specification.
- The connector on the motorcycle and the connector supplied by the EVSE.
- Whether the motorcycle has the standard or premium charging equipment referenced in the manual for your market.
- The outlet or station’s voltage, current, and continuous power rating.
- Whether the installation has the required protection and is approved for the intended load.
Do not infer compatibility from a plug shape alone. If you cannot identify the installed charger or are unsure whether a circuit can support the load, the manual advises contacting a Zero dealer or a qualified electrician. The same advice applies before installing a dedicated station or using an unfamiliar public connector.

A practical setup routine
The following routine separates the percentage limit, the time limit, and the physical charging connection so an unexpected result is easier to explain.
- Confirm the bike’s model year and region, then open the matching owner manual.
- Decide whether you need a percentage ceiling. If so, enable Charge Target and enter a value from 0% to 100%; otherwise leave it disabled for the default 100% behavior.
- In the Zero smartphone app, check whether Delay/Scheduled charging is active and review its End Charging time.
- Choose a cable, portable EVSE, home station, or public station that matches the motorcycle’s connector and installed charging equipment.
- Verify that the available supply can provide the required voltage, current, and power continuously.
- Start charging and record the start time, selected target, and scheduled end time. If the final SoC is lower than expected, these three facts identify whether the percentage or the schedule ended the session.
This routine does not change the SR/F’s charging rate. It simply makes the two independent stopping rules visible before you connect the bike.

Those details are necessary because the manual identifies equipment and regional supply as determinants of charging behavior.
