What the Harbor Freight mini tire changer is
The current product page describes the PITTSBURGH Mini-Tire Changer as a manual changer for ATVs, golf carts, and other off-highway vehicles. How it works, step by step
The process has no powered components. You secure the wheel, break the beads loose with the handles, and then use the long mounting/demounting tool as a lever around the rim. Work through the stages in order.

Before the wheel goes on the changer
- Remove any wheel balance weights.
- Remove the valve core so the tire fully deflates.
- Apply tire mounting lubricant to the beads. The manual says this lubricant is sold separately.
Mounting the wheel on the base
- Secure the base to a level, sturdy workbench or other surface, or hold it temporarily in a vise.
- Place the wheel over the threaded shaft.
- Center the wheel using the alignment disc, the spacers, and the locking nut.
Breaking the beads
- Position the foot of the breaker handle at the rim edge.
- Pull down on the handles to push the bead off the rim seat.
Demounting the tire
Rotate the long mounting/demounting tool clockwise around the rim as a lever to lift the beads off the rim. Work from one side of the wheel until the tire comes free.
Installing the tire
- Lubricate both beads. The manual warns that failing to lubricate can damage the bead.
- Fit the lower bead onto the rim first.
- Work the upper bead over the rim with the mounting/demounting tool.
Safety and setup
- Mount the changer only on a secure, level surface that can support both the changer and the wheel assembly.
- If you plan to drill or fasten the base to a surface, check for hidden wiring or utilities first.
- Keep bystanders clear while breaking beads, because the handles and tool are under load.
- Inspect the changer for loose or damaged parts before each use.
