The company calls the result an unofficial power-density world record—not an independently certified one. Its estimated continuous output is far lower: 350–400 kW.
What YASA reported
In its 22 October 2025 announcement, YASA said its updated prototype delivered 750 kW at a mass of 12.7 kg. Dividing the reported peak output by the reported mass gives 59 kW/kg, the power-density figure the company uses for its record claim.
YASA compared that result with an earlier prototype test from summer 2025: 550 kW from a 13.1 kg motor, or 42 kW/kg. The company says the newer figure is a 40% increase over that earlier test. These are company-reported measurements; the announcement does not provide enough detail to independently assess the calculation or testing conditions.

Both tests are described in terms of peak output. The October announcement estimates continuous output separately; it does not say the motor can sustain 750 kW.

Peak power is not continuous power
YASA estimates the prototype’s continuous output at 350–400 kW (469–536 bhp). That estimate is the relevant figure for understanding sustained operation; 750 kW is a short-term peak rating. The announcement does not specify the duration of the peak, the conditions under which it was measured, or the detailed basis for the continuous estimate.
Is the world-record claim independently verified?
No independent certification or third-party test report for the October result is identified in the available reporting. YASA itself calls the record unofficial. Independent industry outlet electrive’s 22 October 2025 report also describes it as unofficial and says detailed figures for the new test were not released. It notes that more electrical data had been disclosed for the summer test, but not for this October result.

The numbers should therefore be read as YASA’s reported prototype performance, not as a verified ranking against every electric motor. Without published test conditions and a common comparison basis, a broad comparison with other designs cannot be established from the headline figure alone.
What makes the motor axial flux?
In an axial-flux motor, the magnetic field is aligned with the motor’s rotation axis; in a conventional radial-flux motor, it is aligned with the radius. Axial-flux motors often have a disc-like form. The architecture describes the direction of the magnetic flux, not a guarantee of a particular power output.

YASA says its motors use a proprietary “Yokeless And Segmented Armature” design, which removes the stator yoke and divides it into segments, as described in the company’s technology overview. The company attributes performance to precision engineering, thermal management and optimized packaging, but has not published enough data to quantify how much each factor contributes to the October result.
YASA CEO Joerg Miska said the prototype has “three times the performance density of today’s leading radial flux motors.” The announcement does not identify the comparison motors or methodology, so this should be treated as the CEO’s claim rather than a like-for-like independent comparison.

What stage is the prototype at?
YASA describes the motor as a fully functional prototype undergoing extended testing and a rigorous development program. It says the motor was designed and developed at its Oxford Innovation Centre with support from the UK Advanced Propulsion Centre. The announcement does not establish that this record-setting prototype is a retail product or provide a consumer availability date.
