Roadloft’s pickup camper conversion kit turns a capped truck bed into a modular sleeping, lounging, storage and cooking area. Its center panels rearrange between a bed and lounge, while swivel tables and a tailgate kitchen make the space usable for meals or work. The main catch is fit: Roadloft identifies a six-foot bed as the starting point, but the truck’s exact bed dimensions, trim and shell height still matter.
What the pickup camper kit includes
The kit is a removable interior system rather than a complete self-contained camper. Roadloft’s current US full-size listing gives a kit length of 71 inches, width of 62 inches inside the bed and 58 inches at the tailgate. It lists a 48-by-71-inch bed, 194 liters of total storage and a five-year warranty. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Roadloft’s full-size product listing currently shows a US price of $4,995, which may change.
The product needs a suitable pickup shell or topper to create the enclosed living space. The kit does not, by itself, supply every item needed to camp: the stove, refrigerator or cooler, water container and shell are separate practical considerations. The total cost therefore depends on what the truck already has and what equipment the owner chooses.
How the layout works
Bed and lounge
Removable center panels can be repositioned to make a lounge with a backrest or a sleeping surface. A solo traveler can leave an L-shaped lounge and a single sleeping area in place. Fold-out swivel tables provide a surface for eating or working, and storage cubbies sit under or beside the seating.

Tailgate kitchen
The tailgate arrangement places a drawer intended for a portable two-burner stove on the driver’s side. On the passenger side, drawers and a collapsible sink insert provide basic kitchen storage and washing; the upper section can be removed for use outdoors. A refrigerator or cooler can occupy the gap between the two kitchen units, while a water canister supplies the sink. Appliance fit depends on the dimensions of the equipment selected.

Will it fit your pickup?
Roadloft says the kit is certified compatible with pickups that have a six-foot bed. Its compatibility guide lists tested model and year ranges, but the guide can change and a model name alone does not guarantee a match. Full-size and mid-size configurations are covered; Roadloft says the mid-size kit is narrower and uses a single-size modular bed rather than a double-size configuration. Roadloft specifically says Rams with RamBox storage are not compatible and advises validating dimensions for newer DT Ram beds. The guide also flags that some special versions need measurement. If your truck is not listed, or its bed differs from the configuration described, Roadloft recommends using its detailed measurements or arranging a fit check.
Measure before buying
- Confirm the actual bed length and width, including the shape around the wheel wells.
- Check the tailgate opening and dimensions against the kit’s narrower tailgate width.
- Match the truck’s model year, trim and bed configuration to the live compatibility guide.
- Check the shell’s interior height: the setup needs enough headroom for the intended use, particularly sitting upright at the lounge.
- Account for the kit and any other cargo when checking the truck’s payload capacity; the published kit weight is not a payload assessment for a particular vehicle.
What to weigh against other camper options
A modular bed kit suits a pickup owner who wants a configurable interior without committing to a permanent build. It is not automatically a better choice than a simple platform, DIY conversion, shell camper or slide-in camper; compare the parts of the system that matter for your trips.

- Sleeping: compare the listed 48-by-71-inch full-size bed with the space and configuration you need. The mid-size model is narrower and single-size.
- Headroom: check whether your shell lets you sit comfortably; a bed-length match does not establish usable cabin height.
- Weight and payload: account for the kit, shell, occupants, water, appliances and luggage against the truck’s payload rating.
- Kitchen and storage: the kit provides kitchen structure and storage, but the stove, cooling equipment and water supply are additional equipment choices.
- Removal and installation: Roadloft describes the system as non-permanent and says it uses quick, tool-free installation. The exact process and effort for a particular truck are not independently established here. Roadloft overview
- Complete cost: consider the shell and any cooking, cooling and water gear alongside the kit price; the sources do not establish a current bundled total.
Ordering and delivery notes
Roadloft’s current listing says online orders are processed within two to three business days. Its quoted delivery estimates are up to 20 business days in the United States and approximately 15 business days in Canada; these are estimates, so confirm them with Roadloft before ordering. The New Atlas article reported that Roadloft offered a Fibrobec mid-height shell locally in Quebec in 2024 and suggested contacting the company about options elsewhere. That was publication-era availability, not confirmation of a current universal shell offer. The article also cited a 300 lb (136 kg) static roof load for that Fibrobec shell; it is not a rating for the camper kit or a dynamic load rating while driving. New Atlas, December 17, 2024
