What kind of motorcycle is the Yamaha TRACER 9?
“Crossover” captures the idea of a motorcycle intended to balance sporty road riding with touring duties, but Yamaha’s own category for the TRACER 9 is sport touring. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not an independent assessment of its handling, comfort or long-distance ability. Yamaha describes the model as intended for spirited rides and journeys with a passenger and luggage. What engine and performance figures does the 2025 TRACER 9 have?
Yamaha lists a liquid-cooled, 890cc three-cylinder engine for the 2025 standard TRACER 9. Its published output figures are:
- Maximum power: 87.5 kW (119 PS) at 10,000 rpm.
- Maximum torque: 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The figures alone do not establish fuel economy, acceleration, real-world performance or reliability.

How do the TRACER 9, GT and GT+ differ?
Yamaha’s 2025 range announcement identifies three versions. The clearest distinctions established in the published material are transmission availability and headlights; equipment should be checked against the specification for the exact trim and market.

Y-AMT is Yamaha’s automated manual transmission option. Announcing the 2025 range on 28 October 2024, Yamaha said: “All versions of the 2025 TRACER 9 feature a cornering headlight system and, in a world first, Yamaha brings sophisticated adaptive Matrix LED headlight technology to motorcycling on the TRACER 9 GT and TRACER 9 GT+ models.” The “world first” wording is Yamaha’s claim. What features are listed on the standard model?
For the 2025 standard TRACER 9, Yamaha lists a 7-inch TFT dashboard, cornering LED headlights, a windscreen adjustable through 10 steps, and low and high seat settings. These are equipment details, not proof of how comfortable the motorcycle will feel to a particular rider or passenger. Fit and comfort depend on the rider, setup and journey; check the motorcycle in person where possible.
