Yamaha’s FZ-S Fi Hybrid is still a petrol-powered 149cc commuter motorcycle—not an electric bike. Its Smart Motor Generator (SMG) supports starting and brief acceleration assistance, while Stop & Start switches the engine off at idle. For buyers, the key question is whether those features and the connected TFT display are worth the price of the version available locally; Yamaha’s fuel-economy claim is modest and test-qualified.
What “hybrid” means on the FZ-S Fi
The FZ-S Fi Hybrid combines a petrol engine with electrical assistance. It is not designed to run on battery power alone, and Yamaha’s materials do not describe it as an externally rechargeable electric motorcycle. The petrol engine remains the source of propulsion.
SMG and power assist
Yamaha says the Smart Motor Generator provides silent starting and brief hybrid power assistance responsive to traffic conditions. The system assists the engine; Yamaha does not claim a large increase in peak output over the standard FZ-S Fi.
Stop & Start
When the motorcycle is stationary and idling, the Stop & Start System (SSS) can stop the engine. Pulling the clutch restarts it. This is intended to reduce idling, rather than provide electric-only movement. Yamaha describes the functions in its FZ-S FI series brochure; its model overview also identifies the bike as a petrol motorcycle with hybrid assistance.

Does the hybrid version offer more performance?
Yamaha lists the Hybrid’s maximum output as 9.1kW (12.4PS) at 7,250rpm and maximum torque as 13.3Nm at 5,500rpm, with a five-speed gearbox. Those are the published engine figures, not evidence of a higher peak-output rating than the standard version. The hybrid system’s stated role is assistance during starting and acceleration, not a separate electric performance mode. Check the exact model-year documentation when comparing variants.
Fuel economy: what the claim does—and does not—say
Yamaha’s brochure says the Stop & Start system improves fuel economy by approximately 3%, tested in WMTC emissions mode, and adds that results may vary. That is a manufacturer claim tied to a specified test mode, not a guarantee of a particular commuter’s consumption.

At the March 2025 launch, Business Standard reported that Yamaha had not disclosed an official mileage figure. Autocar India’s model overview, updated October 5, 2026, lists 53.44kpl as ARAI mileage; that figure should be attributed to Autocar’s listing, not treated as a real-world result or a promise for every route. See the Yamaha brochure, Business Standard’s launch report and Autocar India’s overview.

The FiberMesh Tip is a tightly woven conductive fabric mesh that is highly durable and resistant to breakdown. The result is ultra accurate and durable, while providing you with PRESSURE SENSITIVE feedback.
- 📌 [FINETOUCH PINPOINT ACCURACY] The innovative CLEAR TIP allows VISION-ENHANCING precision for you to see the exact contact point on the screen of your FZ-S Fi Hybrid Display (4.2 in). Providing fine-point accuracy to where and what you are writing, drawing, or tapping.
- 🖊 [ALL ANGLES] Both tips work well from ANY ANGLE! Perfect for those cold days when you don't want to remove your gloves.
- 📎 [EASY ACCESS] Use the built-in METAL CLIP to attach the DualTip Capacitive Stylus directly to your shirt, jacket, jeans, or case; the options are endless.
- Compare dated, local prices. Get a current dealer quote for both versions, including the same taxes, insurance and other charges.
- Consider your traffic. Frequent stops may make engine shut-off at idle and clutch-activated restarts more relevant than they are on uninterrupted rides.
- Value the equipment separately. Decide whether the TFT, navigation and connected functions matter to you, rather than attributing their value to fuel savings.
- Keep the comparison like-for-like. Yamaha’s brochure lists the Hybrid at 138kg and the standard FZ-S Fi at 137kg, but model-year and variant differences mean those figures should not be treated as a definitive current comparison without checking both versions’ documentation.
The available specifications and dated prices support an in-family comparison; they do not establish a current head-to-head case against rival motorcycles.
