The Yamaha FZ1 Abarth Assetto Corse was a concept motorcycle developed by Yamaha with Abarth. It was shown in Bologna in late 2008 and presented by Abarth at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. The public record establishes it as a concept. It does not establish that a production run was built, how many units exist, or whether any example is road-registered today.
What the bike was
The motorcycle was built on the Yamaha FZ1 platform and finished in Abarth’s styling language. Abarth’s own announcement for the 63rd International Motor Show in Frankfurt calls it a “concept bike” developed with Yamaha, and it is the most authoritative description available. The same release says limited production was a possibility the two companies were considering. That is a statement of intent, not a confirmed manufacturing decision.

Note that the Frankfurt release also contains sales figures. Those refer to Abarth cars and the brand’s distribution network. They say nothing about this motorcycle and should not be read as production or sales numbers for it.

The Bologna statement
Moto.it quoted Enrico Pellegrino, identified in that report as general manager of Yamaha Motor Italia, on the Bologna presentation. The Italian sentence reads:

Treat this as marketing language from the manufacturer’s Italian subsidiary. It is useful for showing what Yamaha wanted to say about the bike, not for proving performance.
The “two versions” question
Some owners and buyers of standard FZ1s have reported seeing an Abarth-badged example and wondering whether a second, official version exists. A Moto.it reader put the question this way: “ne ho trovato una versione ABARTH ma sono confuso, pare esistano due versioni” (“I found an ABARTH version but I’m confused, apparently there are two versions”). That single forum post is not evidence of a production model, and the reader also asked about used prices and spare-parts supply, which the public record does not address.

If you are looking at a bike with Abarth styling, check it against these points before assuming it is an official variant:
- Ask the seller for documents showing the model, not just the badge or paint. Badging and bodywork are easy to add to a standard machine.
- Compare the frame number and engine number against Yamaha’s records for the standard FZ1, since the concept’s build details were never published as a production register.
- Check the registration document for the model description and the registration history.
- Be cautious of any claim of a limited run or a specific unit count unless a Yamaha or Abarth primary source states it.
Comparing it with the standard FZ1
A detailed comparison is not possible on the public record. No two confirmed production trims exist to compare. If you want to set the concept against the standard Yamaha FZ1, take the standard bike’s engine, equipment and homologation details from Yamaha’s own product documentation, and treat the concept’s features as press-reported. Keep the two sets of figures visibly separate.

Buying, parts and resale
There is no verified information on current availability, spare-parts supply, or resale value for an Abarth-badged FZ1. Parts for the standard FZ1 are a separate question from anything specific to the concept, and the public record does not say whether any concept-specific parts were ever made. Anyone considering a purchase should assume that a price or parts claim for this model is unverified until the seller can show documentation from Yamaha or Abarth.
How to cite or describe the bike
Use “concept” when describing the motorcycle, cite the Abarth Frankfurt announcement for that status, and attribute the Bologna presentation and the 150 hp figure to the press reports and manufacturer statements that carried them. Avoid stating production numbers, specifications or availability as fact.
