A successful change locked the order again, rescheduled production, and recalculated the delivery estimate, so customers who switched re-entered the queue and their wait depended on when the original order had been locked. The window was a 24-hour launch-period measure. It is closed, and it does not describe how SU7 orders work today.
What the window actually changed
The phrase “pre-order adjustment” in the original headline can mislead. Customers were not placing new pre-orders. They were revising an existing locked order. Xiaomi’s ordering guidance at the time said that an order entered production once its configuration was locked. The April 2024 window was an exception to that rule for a short period, and only for customers whose orders were eligible.
Why Xiaomi opened it: demand and production
The SU7 Series went on sale in mainland China after its launch on March 28, 2024. Demand was strong enough that Xiaomi reported a growing count of locked orders, and it responded by expanding factory output. The figures below come from company reports and statements, each dated and qualified in the table.

Production ramp
Xiaomi said it moved its EV factory to double-shift operations in June 2024. In July it carried out production-line optimization and maintenance to support the ramp. On July 2, 2024, Xiaomi EV told CnEVPost that delivery lead times after order lock-in had been cut by up to five weeks, and that another round of line optimization was planned. Those are statements from that month. They are not a standing delivery schedule.

Who could use the window and what they could change
Coverage at the time, which relayed Xiaomi’s announcement, gave the same terms across several reports. Eligibility was limited to orders that were already locked by the closing time. Founder Edition orders were excluded.

- Before April 20, 2024 at 09:00, the eligible customer opened the order and selected a different model version or configuration.
- The change was submitted once. Any later edit to the same order was not permitted in the window.
- A successful change immediately locked the order in its new configuration.
- Production scheduling restarted from that successful change, not from the original order date.
- The estimated delivery date was recalculated. The delay depended on when the original order had been locked, so customers who had waited longer in the first queue could see a longer wait again.
Xiaomi’s stated reason was that production and material preparation were based on locked-order configurations. Frequent changes could disrupt production, parts supply and delivery efficiency. Public reports do not say how many orders were changed or how much the average wait grew for those who switched. Any claim about the scale of the impact would go beyond the evidence.
Launch-period ordering terms
Xiaomi’s March 29, 2024 buyer Q&A described the ordering process at launch. Customers could lock a configuration in the order area of the Xiaomi Auto app. Deposits could be refunded through the app within seven working days at that stage. Delivery timing varied by model, configuration and color. These terms applied during the launch period. They should not be read as the current rules for SU7 orders.

The buyer question behind the story
The question buyers asked most often at the time was 现在下定多久能提车？ In English, that means: if I place an order now, how long until I can take delivery? The window was a partial answer for people who wanted a different configuration. It also showed the trade-off. A change could bring the car closer to what the buyer wanted, but it moved the order to the back of the line from the date of the change.
