Calling it the “Model T of flying cars” describes a hoped-for future of mass production and wider access—not an established price, market success, or ability to fly legally in every market.
What the Land Aircraft Carrier is
Rather than turning an ordinary car into an aircraft, the concept pairs two distinct modules: a road-going carrier and a separate eVTOL flight module. XPENG’s official product page describes an automatic mechanism for separating and rejoining them. Its “Aircraft Carrier” name refers to that transport-and-launch arrangement, not to a conventional car that flies as one vehicle.
The arrangement aims to let the aircraft travel with its own ground carrier, but the concept’s modularity alone does not establish how, where, or under what rules customers will be able to operate it.
Why the “Model T” comparison needs qualification
The comparison comes from a 2024 New Atlas feature, which invoked Henry Ford’s moving assembly line and the broader idea of affordable, mass-produced transportation. It is an analogy about what production scale might make possible. It is not a claim that XPENG has already achieved Model T-like affordability or adoption.

There is no verified delivered-unit or adoption figure in the sources cited here that would establish mass-market success. Whether the comparison proves apt depends on outcomes such as final price, production scale, certification, delivery, and legal operation—not the concept’s name or design.
What is known about production and certification
Development progress reported in 2026
A Guangzhou Development District government report says the flight aircraft came off a batch trial-production line and completed multi-aircraft test flights at the Huangpu mass-production factory on March 5, 2026. That is evidence of trial production and testing; it does not, by itself, confirm completed aircraft certification, production approval, customer deliveries, or routine commercial service.

Certification status reported in May 2025
In a May 2025 announcement, XPENG said its production-certificate application had been accepted for review and that type-certificate review was at a compliance-confirmation stage. The company said it was working toward mass-production delivery in 2026. Those details describe the regulatory position XPENG reported at that time; they should not be read as confirmation of the status today.
Delivery plan and what it does not confirm
XPENG’s product page presents a 2026 mass-production delivery plan. A plan is not proof that deliveries have occurred. As of October 4, 2026, the sources cited here do not verify completed certification, customer deliveries, or market-specific authorization to buy and operate the aircraft. The product page also cautions that technical display data may be reference information and can vary with configuration and actual conditions.

What the price estimates actually mean
The 2024 New Atlas feature estimated a combined price of about US$400,000, allocating US$140,000 to the ground module and an estimated US$260,000 to the aircraft. The article said the flight-module price had not been disclosed, so these are the writer’s estimates—not official XPENG prices or a current purchase quote.
The sources cited here do not establish a final current price, reservation terms, or purchase and operating conditions for any specific market. The original feature’s predictions that pre-orders would open in November 2024 and customer deliveries would arrive in the fourth quarter of 2025 are dated forecasts, not current schedule evidence.

What a prospective buyer or observer should verify
Before treating the Land Aircraft Carrier as an available vehicle, check the status in the relevant country directly with XPENG/ARIDGE and the civil aviation authority. The key questions are:
- Have type certification and production approval been completed?
- Have customer deliveries actually begun, and in which markets?
- What is the final price, and what do reservation or purchase terms require?
- Where is operation legally approved, and what rules govern it?
- What operating limitations and training apply?
Those answers determine whether the concept is merely advancing through development or is a usable product for a particular customer. A production milestone or a company delivery target cannot substitute for them.
