XPENG’s original launch material cited up to 300 km—about 186 miles—of rated range in 10 minutes, while newer market-specific X9 versions advertise higher charging performance. The exact result depends on the model year, market, battery, charger, and range-test cycle.
The XPENG X9 is a large seven-seat electric MPV designed around fast charging, but “251 miles in 10 minutes” is not a universal specification for every X9. XPENG’s original launch announcement cited up to 300 km (about 186 miles) of rated range in 10 minutes from its 800-volt silicon-carbide platform. Later X9 versions and regional specifications advertise higher charging performance, including up to 542 kW of DC charging power and approximately 12 minutes for a 10%-to-80% charge in some markets.

In other words, the 251-mile figure may describe a newer or market-specific X9 configuration, but it should not be applied to every model year, battery, charger, or country. The exact result depends on the vehicle version, charging hardware, battery temperature, state of charge, weather, driving conditions, and the range-testing standard used.
What the XPENG X9 is
The X9 is a large seven-seat MPV launched by XPENG for the Chinese market and later offered, in different configurations, in export markets. It uses XPENG’s SEPA 2.0 architecture and an 800V silicon-carbide electrical system, which the company developed to support high-power DC charging.

XPENG investor-relations material lists CLTC range figures from 610 km to 702 km for the product information it covers. Earlier independent coverage cited X9 variants with up to 500 km of CLTC range and up to 590 km under WLTP. Those numbers are not necessarily contradictory: they can refer to different batteries, model revisions, markets, and equipment levels.
Where the 251-mile claim comes from
There is an important mathematical and technical distinction behind the headline.
- 300 km is about 186 miles, not 251 miles.
- 251 miles is approximately 404 km.
- Therefore, the 251-mile figure cannot be a simple miles-to-kilometers conversion of XPENG’s original 300-km claim.
The launch specification reviewed for the first-generation X9 charging announcement said the vehicle could add up to 300 km of rated range in 10 minutes. That figure was associated with CLTC conditions in independent reporting. Later XPENG material and secondary coverage describe higher charging figures for newer or market-specific revisions, which is likely why substantially larger range-addition claims now appear in coverage of the X9.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The safest interpretation is: some newer X9 versions may be able to recover roughly 400 km, or about 250 miles, of rated range during a 10-minute charging session under the right conditions, while the original launch benchmark was up to 300 km. Buyers should check the local specification sheet rather than assume that every X9 delivers the newer figure.
What the X9’s 800V silicon-carbide system does
The X9’s 800V architecture is the foundation of its fast-charging capability. Compared with a typical lower-voltage EV system, an 800V design can transfer a large amount of power with less current for a given output. Silicon-carbide power electronics can also help support efficient, high-power operation.

That hardware is necessary for the advertised charging performance, but it is not sufficient by itself. The vehicle also needs a compatible high-power DC charging station capable of supplying the required voltage and current. An ordinary public charger, home wall box, or portable charging cable will not reproduce the X9’s headline 10-minute result.
Three charging figures that should not be confused
| Metric | What it means | X9 figures in the cited material |
|---|---|---|
| Range added in 10 minutes | The amount of rated driving range gained during a 10-minute charging event. It depends on the test cycle, battery state, temperature, charger, and vehicle efficiency. | Up to 300 km, or approximately 186 miles, in XPENG’s original launch announcement. |
| 10%-to-80% charging time | The time required to raise the battery from a stated 10% state of charge to 80%. It is not the same as the amount of range added in 10 minutes. | Approximately 20 minutes in one Malaysia specification; approximately 12 minutes in newer Malaysia and Australian material. |
| AC charging time | Slower charging from a home or destination AC supply. | Approximately 9.5 to 11 hours in the cited Malaysia specification, depending on variant. |
A 10-minute range-addition claim is especially sensitive to the test cycle. If a vehicle consumes less energy under a laboratory procedure, the same amount of electricity can translate into more advertised kilometers. A 10%-to-80% time, by contrast, describes a battery percentage interval and does not directly state how many miles the vehicle will gain.
CLTC and WLTP range are not real-world guarantees
The original 300-km charging figure is associated with the CLTC range standard. CLTC figures are generally more optimistic than WLTP figures, and both are laboratory measurements rather than promises of exact road distance.
Actual range can be lower because of highway speeds, cold weather, heavy loads, hills, strong wind, air-conditioning use, tire pressure, and battery conditioning. The same factors affect the apparent range recovered during a short charging stop. A driver should therefore treat “251 miles in 10 minutes” or “300 km in 10 minutes” as a rated comparison figure, not as a guaranteed distance that can be driven in every situation.
Why X9 charging specifications vary by market
There is no single global X9 charging specification. XPENG has separate model-year and regional materials, and the vehicle’s battery, connector, charging power, and range can differ between markets.

China and newer model revisions
XPENG’s China materials include separate 2025 and 2026 X9 pages and configuration references. These newer documents should not automatically be used to describe the original launch vehicle or an export-market car.

Malaysia
One cited Malaysia specification lists 11 kW AC charging and approximately 20 minutes for a 10%-to-80% DC charge on the listed export variants. A newer Malaysia specification sheet lists versions with peak DC charging power of up to 542 kW and approximately 12 minutes for the same 10%-to-80% interval.
Australia
XPENG’s Australian configurator also states up to 542 kW of DC charging power and a 10%-to-80% charging time of about 12 minutes. That figure belongs to the Australian-market configuration shown there; it should not be presented as proof that all X9 vehicles worldwide have the same capability.
Connector standards matter as well. The cited Malaysia material refers to market-specific AC and DC connectors, including Type 2 and CCS2. Owners should verify the connector, electrical supply, and vehicle variant for their country before buying charging equipment.
What this means for an X9 buyer
The X9’s fast-charging advantage is most useful on long journeys, particularly when a compatible high-power DC station is available and the battery is in a favorable temperature and state-of-charge range.

For everyday ownership, however, maximum DC power may not be the most important specification. Most drivers will spend more time charging at home, work, or a destination than waiting at a 500-plus-kW public station. A vehicle that can accept 11 kW AC charging can be practical for overnight use even though AC charging is far slower than the X9’s peak DC capability.
A home EV charging cable can be a useful daily-charging accessory where the local X9 connector and electrical installation are compatible. It is important not to confuse that equipment with the hardware behind the headline claim: a home cable supports AC charging and does not turn a household outlet into a high-power DC fast charger.
Some owners may instead need a properly installed residential EV wall charger. That choice depends on the local electrical supply, the X9 version, the connector standard, available parking infrastructure, and local regulations. A qualified installer should confirm the circuit and protection requirements before installation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to evaluate the 10-minute claim
- Identify the model year. Check whether the specification applies to the original launch X9 or a newer 2025/2026 revision.
- Identify the market. China, Malaysia, Australia, and other markets may receive different battery and charging configurations.
- Check the metric. Confirm whether the number describes kilometers of rated range added in 10 minutes, peak charging power, or a 10%-to-80% charging time.
- Check the test cycle. Keep CLTC and WLTP figures separate and do not treat either as a guaranteed real-world range.
- Check the charger. The station must support the vehicle’s connector and be capable of delivering the required power.
- Check conditions. Battery temperature, starting state of charge, weather, and charger sharing can all reduce the result.
Bottom line: impressive charging, but not one universal number
The XPENG X9 is notable because it combines a large seven-seat body with an 800V silicon-carbide charging system. Its original official launch claim was up to 300 km—about 186 miles—of rated range in 10 minutes. Newer regional specifications advertise much faster DC charging and may help explain reports of roughly 251 miles of rated range recovered in the same period.

But the 251-mile figure is not established as a universal specification for every X9. The correct number depends on the version, market, charging station, battery conditions, and range-test cycle. For buyers, the practical question is not only how quickly the X9 can charge at its best, but whether the local charging network and home setup can support the version being purchased.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every XPENG X9 add 251 miles of range in 10 minutes?
No. XPENG’s original launch announcement cited up to 300 km, or approximately 186 miles, of rated range in 10 minutes. The 251-mile figure appears to relate to newer or market-specific versions and should not be applied to every X9.
Is 10-minute range addition the same as 10%-to-80% charging time?
No. “Range added in 10 minutes” describes rated driving range gained during a charging event. “10%-to-80% charging time” describes how long it takes to move the battery between two charge levels. They are different measurements.
Can a home charger deliver the X9’s headline charging speed?
No. The X9 needs a compatible high-power DC charger to reach its fastest advertised rate. Home AC equipment, including a charging cable or wall charger, is intended for slower daily charging and does not reproduce the 10-minute DC result.
