XPENG Brings Its Van-Shaped “Land Aircraft Carrier” to CES in Las Vegas

XPENG’s Land Aircraft Carrier pairs a road-going carrier with a separate eVTOL. Here’s what its CES 2025 debut, reported orders and production milestones actually mean.

XPENG’s “Land Aircraft Carrier” is a road vehicle designed to carry and store a separate electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft—not a van that flies. Its appearance at CES 2025 in Las Vegas was the system’s international debut, and the company’s order and production milestones still do not establish that customer deliveries have begun.

What XPENG showed in Las Vegas

At CES in Las Vegas on January 7, 2025, XPENG AEROHT presented the Land Aircraft Carrier internationally. The event ran through January 11, according to XPENG’s CES announcement, which the company published January 8. This was an international debut, not the vehicle’s first unveiling anywhere.

The name is a metaphor for the road module’s job: it transports and stores the flight module. XPENG describes the system as two parts—a land module for road driving and a separate air module for flight. TechCrunch characterized the aircraft as a small, folding eVTOL stored inside an electric minivan. These are company and media descriptions, not results of independent testing.

How the two modules are meant to work

The land module

The carrier is the road-going part of the system. It provides a way to transport and store the aircraft rather than requiring the aircraft to remain integrated into a road vehicle.

The flight module

The separate aircraft is intended for individual, short-haul flight experiences, according to XPENG’s later ARIDGE material. The concept is therefore part road vehicle and part eVTOL, but the two modules have distinct roles and operate in different environments.

Orders, production and delivery: what is confirmed

XPENG’s figures describe different milestones and should not be treated as equivalent sales or deliveries.

Milestone What XPENG reported What it establishes
CES 2025 launch period More than 3,000 “intent orders” or advance reservations, reported by XPENG in 2025. Reported interest at launch; not completed sales or delivered aircraft.
2025 ESG report, filed in 2026 Over 7,000 global orders, according to XPENG Group. A later company-reported order count; the cited report excerpt does not establish an independently audited retail-delivery total.
November 2025 Trial production began at the flying-car factory, according to XPENG Group’s 2025 ESG report filed in 2026. Trial production, not proof of mass production or customer handovers.
Factory capacity plan 10,000 units annually, according to XPENG Group’s 2025 ESG report filed in 2026. Planned capacity, not achieved annual output.
Delivery target announced at CES XPENG planned to begin deliveries in 2026. A company target stated in 2025; it does not confirm that deliveries occurred.

The order figures are dated and labeled differently: the first was described as intent orders or preorders around CES, while the later report says global orders. They should not be added together. XPENG’s CES announcement and its 2025 launch-period statement provide the original context; the later figures come from the company’s 2025 ESG report, filed in 2026.

Certification is not the same as approval to fly

XPENG said the flying body’s type-certificate application was submitted in early 2024 and accepted by China’s civil aviation authority. Acceptance means the application entered the certification process; it is not evidence that a type certificate was granted. The status described in XPENG’s CES announcement should not be read as completed certification.

Price and where it might launch

TechCrunch reported that XPENG’s launch-period price target was below $300,000 and that the company planned to start in China before considering international markets. Those were reported 2025 targets and plans, not confirmed current retail terms or a country-by-country sales schedule. The available company material cited here does not establish a final retail price, certified range or speed, or confirmed delivery count. TechCrunch’s CES coverage provides the context for the reported price and market plan.

How it differs from XPENG’s A868 aircraft

XPENG’s ARIDGE material distinguishes the Land Aircraft Carrier from the A868. The Land Aircraft Carrier is positioned for individual short-haul experiences and pairs an aircraft with a road-going carrier. The A868 is a separate six-seat hybrid-electric aircraft positioned for longer-range, multi-passenger travel. Its projected specifications are company claims, not independently verified here. The two programs should not be conflated.

XPENG’s November 2025 material identifies the Land Aircraft Carrier as an ARIDGE product; a December 2025 company release says ARIDGE was formerly known as XPENG AEROHT. The company’s naming therefore reflects a later brand identity, while XPENG AEROHT is the name associated with the CES 2025 debut.

What the “aircraft carrier” label does—and does not—mean

It describes the carrier’s role in the modular system, not an aircraft carrier in the naval sense. The CES appearance was a notable international showcase for a personal-aircraft concept, but the evidence above describes a development and production program—not a broadly available flying car for ordinary trips. Whether it becomes a practical transport option depends on milestones such as certification, confirmed customer deliveries and final market terms.
