That is a clear SU7 Max win in this comparison—not proof of a universal real-world advantage, because the published report leaves key test conditions unspecified.
What did the reported test find?
CarNewsChina said Chinese automotive outlet Dongchedi tested a 2024 Xiaomi SU7 Max and a Tesla Model 3 Highland, along with a 2022 Nio ET5. Its results favored the Xiaomi on every listed range and acceleration measure for the two cars:

The SU7 Max’s reported road-test range was 75 km greater. These are Dongchedi test results as reported by CarNewsChina, not independently established results for all vehicles of these models.
How do the road results compare with CLTC figures?
CarNewsChina’s comparison table lists a CLTC range of 810 km for the SU7 Max and 713 km for the Model 3 Highland. CLTC is a Chinese test-cycle rating; it is not the same as the distance recorded in a road test, and the figures should not be compared as if they came from one measurement method.

CarNewsChina also reports that the road-test distances were 79.4% of the SU7 Max’s listed CLTC figure and 79.7% of the Tesla’s. So, while the Xiaomi went farther in absolute distance in this test, its reported share of the listed CLTC range was slightly lower.
What does Xiaomi publish for the SU7 Max?
Xiaomi’s March 2024 investor presentation lists the SU7 Max with an 800 km range, a 0–100 km/h time of 2.78 seconds, a top speed of 265 km/h, 673 PS and 838 N·m of torque. Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not Dongchedi’s measurements. The presentation’s 800 km range differs from CarNewsChina’s 810 km CLTC figure; the available sources do not explain the discrepancy. See Xiaomi Corporation’s 2023 Q4 Earnings Results Presentation.

How conclusive is this comparison?
The figures establish what Dongchedi reportedly recorded in this comparison, but CarNewsChina’s account does not specify the route, weather, traffic, speed profile, vehicle load, tires, battery measurement method or detailed acceleration protocol. Without those details, the result cannot show that every SU7 Max will out-range or out-accelerate every Model 3 Highland in everyday driving. Notebookcheck’s April 3, 2024 report also attributes the figures to Dongchedi via CarNewsChina; it is not an independent replication.
A stronger like-for-like comparison would disclose and match:

- Vehicle trim, wheels, tires and load.
- Starting and ending battery thresholds, plus whether range was measured to depletion or estimated from a partial run.
- Driving mode, speed profile and repeated-run results.
These are details needed to assess the comparison, not a description of procedures confirmed in Dongchedi’s report.

CarNewsChina’s narrative calls the Tesla an AWD Long Range Highland, while its result table shortens the name to “Highland.” The report identifies the cars as a 2024 SU7 Max and Model 3 Highland, but the inconsistent Tesla trim wording does not support treating the test as a fully specified trim-to-trim comparison.
