Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For 2026, the Kia Sportage Hybrid makes the stronger styling statement, while the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid takes a more conventional approach. In the specific AWD hybrid trims compared by Tom’s Guide—the Sportage SX-Prestige and Tucson Limited—the Tucson has a slight EPA-estimated fuel-economy edge: 36 mpg combined versus 35 mpg. Neither is the universal winner; the right choice depends on the look and cabin that appeal to you, the exact trim’s equipment, and the space or capability you need.
How the 2026 Tucson and Sportage differ in design
Kia Sportage: more expressive exterior
Tom’s Guide characterizes the 2026 Sportage Hybrid as more expressive and futuristic, calling attention to its sharp body creases and boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. If you want a compact SUV that looks more assertive, the Sportage is the natural one to inspect first. Those are subjective design judgments, not measurable advantages.

Hyundai Tucson: a more conventional look
The same review describes the Tucson Hybrid’s visual treatment as more conventional. That may suit drivers who prefer a less attention-grabbing design. Tom’s Guide reviewer John Velasco sums up the choice: “There’s a stark contrast in how these two SUVs look, and personal preference will heavily influence your decision.” The review does not provide a consumer survey showing which look buyers generally prefer.
Hybrid power and fuel economy: compare the exact trims
The figures below are for the AWD 2026 hybrid trims listed in Tom’s Guide’s comparison, not every Tucson or Sportage configuration. Confirm the trim, price, and EPA label for the vehicle you are considering, since ratings and availability vary by configuration and market.

| 2026 hybrid trim | Power | EPA-estimated combined fuel economy | MSRP listed by Tom’s Guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited AWD | 231 hp | 36 mpg | $41,825 |
| Kia Sportage Hybrid SX-Prestige AWD | 232 hp | 35 mpg | $40,590 |
These selected trims have nearly identical listed power and a one-mpg difference in combined EPA estimates. The listed MSRPs are the figures in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 review; they are not a quote for a specific buyer, and actual pricing, availability, and options can vary. For another Tucson Hybrid configuration, Hyundai lists EPA estimates of 40 city/35 highway/38 combined mpg for the FWD SEL and 36 city/37 highway/36 combined for the SEL HTRAC AWD on its 2026 Tucson overview. Do not apply those SEL ratings to the Limited or to a different powertrain.
Why one reviewer’s fuel log is not a fair head-to-head rating
Tom’s Guide reported 38.5 mpg for the Tucson over 177.3 miles and 30.1 mpg for the Sportage over 231.9 miles during its week with the vehicles. These were the reviewer’s observations, not EPA results or a controlled, directly comparable test: the distances and conditions differed, and the review noted warm spring weather during the Tucson drive. Use the EPA label to compare official ratings and treat those road-trip figures only as that reviewer’s experience.

Passenger room, cargo capacity, and towing

|---|---|---|
| Second-row legroom | 41.3 in. | 41.3 in. |

| Cargo room behind second row | 38.7 cu. ft. | 39.6 cu. ft. |
| Maximum towing | 2,750 lb | 1,653 lb |
The listed rear legroom is equal, and the Sportage has a modestly larger stated cargo figure behind the second row. The displayed towing capacities differ more, but do not treat these as interchangeable guarantees: verify the rating for the exact model year, powertrain, trim, and towing equipment before planning to tow.

Features, warranty, and what to verify by trim
Equipment can change substantially across trims, and the available comparison does not establish a reliable trim-by-trim match for safety systems, driver assistance, or cabin controls. Before choosing between two listings, compare their actual window stickers and inspect the controls in person rather than assuming that similarly named trims include the same features.
- Check the exact safety and driver-assistance features on each vehicle’s window sticker, including whether equipment is standard or part of an option package.
- Try the climate, audio, and driver-information controls during a test drive; the layout that feels intuitive is a personal-fit question.
- Confirm the drivetrain and EPA rating on the vehicle’s current label. For the Tucson Hybrid, Hyundai’s published figures distinguish FWD SEL from SEL HTRAC AWD.
- Compare the dealer’s current selling price and available inventory; the review’s MSRP figures are not a guarantee of local transaction price.
Hyundai advertises a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty for the Tucson and directs buyers to terms and limitations. Coverage is not unconditional; read the warranty terms for eligibility and transferability. The available information here does not establish matching Kia warranty terms, so compare the written coverage for both specific vehicles before treating warranty as a deciding advantage.

Which SUV should you choose?
Choose the Sportage if
- You prefer a more distinctive, assertive exterior, especially its sharp creases and boomerang-shaped daytime running lights.
- You are considering the SX-Prestige AWD hybrid and its listed $40,590 MSRP, subject to current local pricing and availability.
- The displayed 39.6-cubic-foot cargo figure or a particular Sportage trim’s verified equipment fits your needs.
Choose the Tucson if
- You prefer its more conventional styling.
- You are comparing the Limited AWD hybrid and value its listed 36-mpg combined EPA estimate against the Sportage SX-Prestige AWD hybrid’s 35 mpg.
- The Tucson’s verified features, price, or warranty terms better suit your priorities.
Before signing, compare the exact trims—not just the nameplates—using current window stickers, EPA labels, written warranty terms, and a test drive. The design distinction is a matter of taste; the practical differences depend on the specific vehicle you can buy.
