The SUV first seen in leaked road-test photos is now identified as the Xiaomi Sky Nomad N90. The early images, credited to Chinese outlet Yiche, showed a large, boxy prototype with a roof-mounted sensor; Xiaomi later released official images confirming the N90 name and roof LiDAR. Xiaomi announced the SkyNomad family in September 2026, so the vehicle is no longer simply an upcoming SUV. CnEVPost’s May report and Xiaomi’s September announcement provide the key timeline.
What is Xiaomi’s new SUV called?
The debut SUV in Xiaomi’s Sky Nomad series is the N90. Early May 2026 reporting referred to the test vehicle by the internal codename “Kunlun” and floated “YU9” as a possible eventual name. Neither should be treated as the retail model name: Xiaomi later identified the vehicle as the N90. CnEVPost’s initial report and its July coverage of Xiaomi’s official image document that change.
What did the leaked photos show?
CnEVPost reported on May 5, 2026, that Yiche had shared road-test images of a large SUV. The visible prototype had a boxy, rugged profile and a raised roof section described as a LiDAR bump. Those are observations of a test vehicle, not proof that every detail would remain unchanged in a production version. The May report credits Yiche for the photos.
In July, Xiaomi published its own teaser and high-definition exterior images. CnEVPost described the disclosed N90 as a rugged, boxy SUV with roof-mounted LiDAR and semi-hidden door handles. These official images support the broad shape and sensor description, but they are distinct from the original leak. CnEVPost’s July 9 report covered the first look at the series, followed by its July 10 report on the exterior image and N90 name.

What Xiaomi has announced about the Sky Nomad series
Xiaomi describes Sky Nomad as an intelligent, transformable large-space SUV series. The company’s September 7, 2026 announcement introduced N70 and N90 models and described the SkyNomad family as launched. It listed a family starting price of RMB 209,900; that is a lineup-level starting figure, not confirmation that every N90 configuration costs that amount. Read Xiaomi’s launch announcement.
Founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun framed the SUV as a “living space,” according to CnEVPost’s account of his Weibo posts. The same report quotes his examples of how the parked vehicle could be used: “a studio for one, a café for two, a reception room for three, or a playground for the whole family.” These are Xiaomi’s positioning statements, not independent assessments of the cabin’s practicality. Which specifications are confirmed—and which are estimates?
The leak-era reports do not provide a complete, official N90 specification sheet. CnEVPost relayed local-media estimates of battery capacity above 70 kWh and electric-only range of 400–500 km. It also cited early length estimates above 5.2 metres, with later coverage referring to reports of more than 5.3 metres. These numbers were not presented as Xiaomi-confirmed N90 specifications; July coverage explicitly said Xiaomi had not released powertrain information. The May report, the July 9 report and the July 10 report give the context for those estimates.
For a purchase decision or a comparison with another large SUV, wait for Xiaomi’s specifications by model and configuration. A meaningful comparison needs confirmed seating and cabin layout, propulsion, electric-only and total range, driver-assistance equipment, price by trim and availability in the market where the vehicle would be sold.

When will the N90 go on sale, and where?
The reviewed announcements establish that Xiaomi launched the SkyNomad family in September 2026, but they do not establish a specific N90 retail sales date. They also do not confirm international availability for the N90. Xiaomi Auto’s global site says the company is officially coming to Europe in 2027 and notes that the SU7 and SU7 Ultra are not for sale outside China; that statement does not confirm that the N90 will launch in Europe or any other overseas market. Xiaomi Auto’s global site and the September family announcement set the available boundaries.
