Founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun attended the ceremony in person and handed vehicles to selected owners. He did not hand over every first-batch car, and the ceremony marked the start of deliveries, not a finished batch. The order totals announced that day were orders, not delivered cars.
What happened on April 3, 2024
The handover ceremony took place at Xiaomi EV’s factory in Yizhuang, Beijing, on April 3, 2024. Lei Jun took part personally and gave vehicles to owners chosen for the event, according to CnEVPost’s report of the day. Coverage from CarNewsChina of the same date independently confirms his role in the ceremony and the Founders Edition context.
The event followed the SU7’s launch on March 28, 2024, when Xiaomi also started taking orders, according to contemporaneous reporting. Deliveries that began on April 3 therefore came only days after the car was unveiled and ordering opened.
The first batch and the Founders Edition
The first batch centred on the Founders Edition. Contemporaneous reporting described that edition as limited to 5,000 vehicles. Founders Edition cars were not customisable, which set them apart from the customised orders that made up the rest of the launch-period plan.

Because the ceremony featured selected owners, the reporting supports a narrow claim: Lei Jun personally handed over cars at the event. It does not establish how many first-batch vehicles he delivered or how many customers received keys that day.
Orders are not deliveries
The most widely repeated numbers from the ceremony are order figures, and they measure different things. The table below separates the statuses reported that day from the later delivery counts that follow.

Neither order figure is a delivered-car count. Delivery totals only become available from Xiaomi’s later financial reports, covered below.
Launch-period lineup
Launch-period coverage listed three SU7 versions, Standard, Pro and Max, alongside the limited Founders Edition. It also gave planned timing for customised deliveries. These were plans reported at launch in April 2024, not a statement of current availability.

The coverage cited here does not give a starting price for each version, so none is listed. Prices and availability in 2024 should be checked against the sources of that period rather than this table.
Manufacturer-published Max specifications
Xiaomi’s 2023 annual results report gave the following figures for the SU7 Max: 673 PS maximum horsepower, 838 N·m peak torque, 2.78 seconds from zero to 100 km/h, a 265 km/h top speed, and up to 800 km CLTC range. CLTC refers to the China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle, a Chinese test standard. These are Xiaomi’s published claims for the Max variant, not independent test results, and they do not describe every SU7 version.

Follow-up delivery figures
Xiaomi’s later reports show how deliveries developed after the ceremony. Each figure below covers the period stated, and none should be read as a figure for the April 3 event itself.

Lei Jun’s remarks at the ceremony
CnEVPost attributes this line to Lei Jun at the first-delivery ceremony: “Many, many years from now, we will all surely remember today: the official debut of the Xiaomi car.” The same report attributes a second line to him: “The real transformation of smart cars has officially begun, and China will surely see the birth of a company as great as Tesla.” That second remark is a forecast made by the company’s founder, not an established fact.
