The “sharper” Yamaha Ténéré 700 is the 2025 model-year redesign, which Yamaha’s US site still lists for 2026. Its main changes are the YCC-T ride-by-wire throttle with selectable SPORT and EXPLORER maps, switchable traction control, revised suspension, a flatter seat and slimmer bodywork, and a 6.3-inch connected TFT display. Yamaha presents these changes as a way to make the bike more responsive and more adjustable off-road. The sources available for this article are Yamaha’s own descriptions and published specifications. None of them includes an independent test that measures a before-and-after performance gain, so “sharper” here describes the character Yamaha intends, not a verified result.
What “sharper” means on this bike
Yamaha’s wording points to three areas: throttle response, suspension control, and rider position. Its technical review sets out the MY25 development aim as “enhancing rider control, off-road capability, and electronic integration, while staying true to the core values of the Ténéré family.” The same review describes the 2019 launch of the Ténéré 700 as “highly acclaimed” for combining “true off-road performance” with “excellent on-road versatility.” Read the 2025 update as a refinement of that formula, not a new kind of motorcycle.
What changed for 2025
Yamaha Japan announced the 2025 Ténéré 700 ABS on February 13, 2025, with a planned Japanese release date of March 31, 2025. The announcement lists YCC-T, selectable modes with traction control, optimized front and rear suspension, a flatter integrated seat, a revised tank shape, a 6.3-inch TFT, and rally-inspired headlight and styling. Yamaha describes the concept as “The Total Ténéré – Top in Adventure” and frames the goal as better off-road capability and touring utility.
The technical review says the MY2025 model uses an EU5+ compliant 689 cm³ CP2 engine that keeps its performance and a lightweight chassis. Yamaha’s US 2025 feature page adds a redesigned, shorter intake duct that Yamaha says improves low-to-midrange power characteristics. These are manufacturer statements. No independent measurement of the engine change is available in the sources.

Throttle control: YCC-T and the two maps
YCC-T is Yamaha’s ride-by-wire throttle system. Because the throttle is electronic rather than cable-operated, Yamaha can offer selectable throttle maps and an on/off traction control function. Yamaha’s US feature page says the rider chooses the preferred power delivery from the available maps.
SPORT map
Yamaha’s Japanese announcement describes SPORT as the option with sharper throttle response for off-road riding. This is the map most directly behind the “sharper” framing.
EXPLORER map
The same announcement describes EXPLORER as the map that prioritizes usability in town, where a softer response is easier to manage at low speed.

- Rack Compatibility: 26 slots for all kinds of soft luggage, kit or roller bag attachment points, for mounting Mosko moto Reckless 80 or Giant loop Siskiyou rackless bags. Pre-drilled holes for easy mounting of Givi/Kappa Monokey top box (rider only, no pillion, road use only, max 5 kg)
- Durable: Side rails are made of Q235 steel with rolled top plates made of 6mm aluminum alloy with high quality nickel-plated bolts and stainless steel washers. It is not easy to deform or warp after long time use or heavy load.
- Adequate Top Surface: Approx. 266 (W) x 305 (L) mm completely flat top surface, suitable for holding 10-20 liters of soft bags.
- Easy to Carry: Smooth chamfered edges. No burrs to cut hands or straps.
- Lightweight: Less than 1.5kg including all mounting hardware.
A throttle map changes how throttle input becomes power delivery. It does not change the engine’s peak output, and Yamaha’s materials do not claim that it does.

Yamaha lists traction control as selectable on or off. It also lists three ABS choices:
- Full ABS, front and rear.
- Front-wheel ABS with the rear ABS disabled.
- ABS disabled at both wheels.
The exact button sequence, default state, and behavior for each setting are in the owner’s manual for your market and model year. Confirm them there before relying on any specific procedure.

Suspension and chassis
Yamaha revised the suspension at both ends. The figures below are from Yamaha’s US 2025 specifications page, and the US feature page describes the same systems.
| Component | US 2025 specification | Adjustment and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Front fork | 43mm KYB inverted fork, 8.3 inches of travel | Fully adjustable, with preload adjustment |
| Rear shock | Single linked shock, 7.9 inches of travel | Remote preload adjuster and rebound damping |
Suspension setup matters more on this bike than on a lightweight single. The adjusters let you tune for rider weight, luggage, and terrain, but the sources do not give Yamaha’s recommended settings, so use the owner’s manual or a dealer for starting points.
Rider position and bodywork
The update includes changes aimed at how the rider moves on and off the bike:

- Power splitter set: 15pcs/set, including 1 x power splitter, 2 x male plug, 6 x connector, 6 x sealing rubbers, and 2 x cable ties.
- Fitment: For Yamaha Tenere 700 Super Tenere Motorcycle. Please check your model before buying. Thanks.
- High-quality: The power splitter set is made of premium cooper wire 18 AWG (0.75mm2) and protected by insulating heat shrink tube for safety.
- Uses: This kit is useful if you would like to have connected two or more output accessories at the same time (for example USB charger, heated grips, GPS, and auxiliary lights).
- Features: The cable ends are connected to pins by professional crimping tool.
- A flatter, one-piece rally-style seat.
- Slim bodywork and a narrower tank.
- Larger footpegs for standing.
- A revised clutch-cover area.
Yamaha describes these as aids for rider movement and control. Seat height remains tall, at 34.4 inches on the US 2025 specifications page, so a shorter rider should check reach and flat-footing before buying.
The connected cockpit
The 6.3-inch vertical full-color TFT has two display themes. Yamaha’s US page names them STREET and EXPLORER. Its Japanese release lists vehicle information, Y-Connect smartphone connectivity, Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation through a paired smartphone, and a standard USB-C charging port for that Japanese model.
On the US side, Yamaha says the free Y-Connect app supports music, calls, and additional functions, and that calls require an aftermarket Bluetooth headset. The US page also describes full-screen turn-by-turn navigation through Google Maps on the display. Feature availability varies by market and by phone and app setup, so confirm your phone’s compatibility and region before counting on any specific function. The USB-C port is listed for the Japanese model; do not assume it is identical in every market.

The optional Quickshifter
Yamaha says the 2025 and 2026 US motorcycles are prewired for its accessory Quickshifter. The Japanese announcement describes the optional accessory as supporting both upshifts and downshifts. Prewiring means the bike is set up for the accessory; it does not mean the part is included. Confirm the part number, fitment for your model year and market, and current price with a Yamaha dealer. The sources did not verify stock, price, or cross-market compatibility.
Price and availability
Yamaha Motor Co. announced a suggested Japanese price of ¥1,474,000, including 10% consumption tax, for the Ténéré700 ABS Low package in its February 13, 2025 announcement. That price applies only to that Japanese package. The announcement describes the Japanese model as an exclusive model sold through Yamaha Sales Partner (YSP) and advance dealers.
The US 2025 specifications page provides specifications and warranty information but does not establish a current US selling price. Pricing, dealer stock, and rebates change over time and by region, so check with a local dealer before comparing costs.

If you are choosing between an earlier Ténéré 700 and a 2025 or 2026 bike, or between this bike and another adventure motorcycle, organize the comparison around the changes above:
- Throttle and rider aids: cable throttle versus YCC-T, the available maps, traction control, and ABS modes.
- Suspension: adjusters, travel, and whether the setup suits your weight, luggage, and terrain.
- Ergonomics: seat height, tank width, and footpeg size for standing.
- Road-trip interface: display, navigation, phone functions, charging, and wind protection.
- Mass and terrain fit: wet weight of 459 pounds, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, and ground clearance.
- Market and total cost: local price, warranty, accessory cost, availability, and compatibility.
The sources describe Yamaha’s own bike and do not include a competitor comparison. They do not support ranking the Ténéré 700 as objectively sharper, better, or more capable than another motorcycle.
