Not yet. Audi’s official material establishes that its RS 5 has become a high-performance plug-in hybrid and that plug-in hybrid technology is available in the A6 family. It does not confirm that the next-generation C9 RS 6 will use a PHEV powertrain—or disclose its engine, output, battery, electric range, or launch date. The PHEV idea is plausible, but it remains unconfirmed.
What is confirmed about the C9 RS 6?
Audi’s official sources cited here do not confirm the next RS 6’s powertrain or specifications. In particular, they do not establish whether it will be a plug-in hybrid, what engine it might use, or when it will arrive. The C9 label refers to the ninth generation of the A6 in Audi’s historical account; that generation designation does not confirm the RS 6’s development details.
That distinction matters because a technology available elsewhere in the A6 range is not proof that the RS 6 will use it. Nor does Audi Sport’s adoption of PHEV technology in another RS model establish the next RS 6’s configuration.
Why a PHEV RS 6 seems possible
Audi Sport has introduced a high-performance PHEV
In a release dated February 19, 2026, Audi called the new RS 5 its first high-performance plug-in hybrid. Audi describes that RS 5 as pairing a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 375 kW (510 PS) with a 130 kW electric motor, for a stated system output of 470 kW (639 PS). Audi also says the RS 5 can travel more than 80 km on electric power in the city. These are RS 5 figures, not specifications for a C9 RS 6. Audi’s RS 5 announcement describes the model as “Audi Sport’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV).”

The A6 family also has documented plug-in hybrid technology
Audi lists A6 e-hybrid variants with a 25.9 kWh gross battery capacity (20.7 kWh net), maximum AC charging power of 11 kW, and more than 100 km of electric driving for the specified models. Those details show that PHEV technology exists in the A6 family, but Audi has not established that the RS 6 will share that hardware or deliver the same range. Audi’s A6 plug-in hybrid material gives the specifications for the A6 e-hybrid models.
The current RS 6 is a baseline, not a forecast
For context, Audi USA lists the 2026 RS 6 Avant performance with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, 621 hp, 627 lb-ft of torque, and a 0–60 mph time of 3.3 seconds. Those specifications apply to the current US-market model; they do not predict the C9 RS 6’s engine or performance. Audi USA’s 2026 RS 6 Avant performance page provides those figures.

What the C9 generation label tells you
Audi’s historical account identifies the new A6 as the ninth generation of the C-series. It also reports that 9,836,762 C-series cars had been built as of April 2025. That production figure is historical context for the A6 line, not evidence about the RS 6’s powertrain, performance, or launch timing. Audi’s C-series history release provides the generation and production information.

Until Audi confirms the model’s details, claims about a V6 or V8 hybrid, system output, electric range, battery size, charging speed, acceleration, or arrival date should be treated as speculation. A useful specification announcement would identify the engine and motor configuration, usable battery capacity, electric range and test cycle, charging power, performance figures, and the markets in which the car will be offered. No confirmed C9 RS 6 powertrain options are established by the official material cited here, so there is no factual basis for comparing rumored configurations.
